VS 2010 Structure Classes So That The User Interfaces Though A Single Class While The Supporting Classes Are Hidden From Their View?

Jun 13, 2012

How can I structure my classes so that the user interfaces though a single class while the supporting classes are hidden from their view? I think its best understood in an example:

Public Class MyInterface
Public Economic as EconomicClass
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New()

[code].....

So you might ask why am I even separating them? It's strictly for others who will be working with this interface. I need to funnel them though a logical structure:

interface.Economic.MyMethod
interface.Currency.MyMethod
etc

This way everything is already handled for them in the background and they only need to run the method they need. I don't know if I can have it both ways in VB.NET.

VS 2008 Exception Handling In User Classes

Apr 27, 2009

I have to get the balance from the web server. Once that is done it will call back into my main app with the result.However, sometime the web server fails for some unknown reason. Could be high volume of traffic or something else. However, I haven't implemented any exception handling in my class. As the app that uses this handles the exception. However, the client has confirmed that when the web server does fail it displays a unhandled exception dialog box. Then they have to click continue to keep using my application. So below I am not sure if I should implement the exception handling in my class.[code]

Finish A Program That Will Report A Set Of Data From The User?

Apr 2, 2009

I need to finish a program that will report a set of data from the user following the guidelines below.I done most of the code I could figure out by myself. But help is still needed to make the data from being displayed on the lstReport box as well as validating the user inputted data.

User Interface - standard window/form formatting with correct tab order
o The form is non-sizable and non-maximizable but can be minimized and will open center screen. It will have a caption of Project1: <your name>, a company logo, and the name of the company.

Auto-fill A User Input Control With The User's Windows?

Feb 11, 2011

I am creating a form for work where managers can report when they find a customer's personal information laying around on a desk (we work at a call center where agents answer calls for a wireless cell phone provider, so we take personal information security very seriously). Anyway, I am wondering if there is a way to have a text box autofill with that manager's windows username (since they will need to be logged into their own profile to use the form).

VS 2008 Wait For A Cmd Line Program To Finish?

May 18, 2009

I've made a gui for a cmd line program and I need to wait for the cmd line program to finish running before continuing.nd I have some code that starts the cmd line program and then calls a subroutine when it's finished running. But this method won't work since now I'm trying to run the cmd line program in a loop.Edit:Is there a way to just have the runtsmod subroutine (shown below) wait until the cmd line program is finished, instead of relying upon a subroutine starting when the cmd lineprogram finishes. This would simplify things greatly being able to call the sub tha starts the cmd line program and having it finish when the cmd line program is done.

Sub runtsmod()
'If the tsmod program exists in the directory the GUI is run from it is ran
Dim tsmod As String = Application.StartupPath & " smod_GUI.exe"

VS 2008 Wait For File To Finish Downloading

Apr 4, 2010

I'm downloading a file asynchronously so that it doesn't stall the UI. I'm using a very basic WebClient and calling .DownloadFileAsync.The file I'm downloading is required for additional tasks after it has been downloaded. The issue that I'm running into is that, since the file is being downloaded on another thread, execution on the main thread continues while the file hasn't finished downloading.Is there any way to pause execution while the file is being downloaded? Or is there a better method?

VS 2008 : Blocking In DoWork() While Waiting For Another Thread To Finish?

May 6, 2009

In my DoWork() function I register with our sip server. Then I have to wait for a response back. However, the response I get is received in another event. However, before I am able to check the flag in the DoWork() the DoWork() has all ready finished and the response comes after.

I am trying to find a way to wait in the DoWork() until I get a response in the Diagnotic event. I have a global flag that is set in that event that I have to check in the DoWork().I was thinking of maybe blocking in the DoWork() until the other event is finished. Maybe using a join.

' Do work in background worker
'Will return less than 8 if there are no error message from the library
If (Not Me.bgwProcessLogin.CancellationPending) Then
' Register and wait for response

ProgressBar1.Value = 0

To the end of the script to set its value back befor the script starts again but that dont work either :/

Nullable Enum Verse Enum.None?

May 26, 2010

Which is better, using a nullable enum or adding the value None=0 to your enum list?Using nullables requires more code, but I kind of like it since it forces me to think about the possibility. Otherwise I'm liable to forget about the None enum and fail to account for it being a special case.

VS 2008 Enum Property Changing Unexpectedly?

Sep 2, 2010

I have an Enum file, as shown in first code block. Though it's first time I use an enum file, so maybe it's not correct to use it like this.. My purpose is just to be able to reference a global parameter from anywhere, so I can just type DataInterval.M1, and it will be treated as an integer... or.. will it not ? urther I have a property in my DataSeries class, of type DataInterval. And in this class I also have a bunch of methods Get/Set etc. to do different work on the dataseries (Inherits List(Of BarData)). roblem: The interval property keeps changing unexpectedly every time the GetNextCloseTime function is called.

VS 2008 Using ENUM Definition In Class Properties?

Jul 28, 2011

In a global module, I define a new type that can take 4 values:

enum tAction as integer
None
Update
Insert
Delete
end enum

A use this type in many places in my code to check the value stored in a variable (if MyAction = tAction.Delete then ...)

In a separate file, I define a class. One of the properties should return a value of this type:

public class XXX
private _Action as tAction
public property ClassAction() as tAction

[Code].....

This way I could check a class property in the same manner (if MyClass.ClassAction = tAction.Insert then ...)

However I get a syntax error in the property definition: 'ClassAction' cannot expose type 'Globals.tAction' outside the project through class 'XXX'

My entire program consists in a few modules, in a single project. How can I use my tAction definition in my classes?

There are about 30 CustomEdit (inheriting classes), all of them has methods "Load","Save" and "Delete". The require for this existing system is to add a readonly user. Possible solutions considering the cost of works:

1) Modify the BaseEdit so all CustomEdit can stay the same. The system will check 'user role' in session by using httpcontext then to accept or reject the user's action.

VS 2008 Enum And Radio Boxes-passing Info To Business Class?

Jan 29, 2011

I'm trying to pass data from the main form to a business class form for calculation.I have 3 types of cars and I can't get the code right to pass that to the business form. It seems correct to me, but obviously, it's not.This is the code for the calculate button, I can't figure out why its telling me that CarSize is not a member of the business form when I have it in the Enum statement at the top. I'm going by what the book says and this appears right according to it.

Dim CarTypeInteger As Integer
'determine the car size from radio buttons
If LuxuryRadioButton.Checked Then

[code]....

In the book it says to specify the class name when declaring the enum on the business form. So to me it looks like it should be -RentalRate.CarSize.Luxury The error I have is 'CarSize' is not a member of the 'ChristiansCarRentals.RentalRate'.
