I'm a bit puzzled here. I did a form containing a simple datagridview containing data from an MDB file. The connection was alltogether done by Visual Studios wizard so alot of stuff was created automatically. Then I databinded the textboxes to each column in the database and managed to update the database via my own command buttons such as "Update" with this code:
Me.MainTableBindingSource.EndEdit()
e.MainTableTableAdapter.Update(Me.DBDataSet.MainTable)
Me.DBDataSet.MainTable.AcceptChanges()

I recently made a small app for a friend and then made it a public app, in doing so I forgot that it connects to my MS SQL DB and checks for values. Someone used Red Gate .Net Reflector to get my password and destroy it all. I've contacted their ISP and they are looking into it, apparently this person has a static ip with them.So this is a lesson learned at a heavy price for me. How can I prevent this from happening again? How can I get away from the unsafe connection string they were able to use?

So basicaly when you click a record, if the grade is 5 i want the radiobutton5 to be selected. And if i click radiobutton6 it should update the field to 6.

View 2 RepliesI am using VB 2008 express and SQL Server 2008 express on a test basis and I used to connect VB express to a SQL database (created in SQL Server 2008 Express management studio) file and it work perfectly until my hard drive packed up and I had to get a new one, so I had to reinstall both of these again and copied my old databases from a backup I had. Now when I try to connect to the database file it cannot connect. Network related error or the instance name is incorrect. When I look at the advanced options in the connect dialog it shows my instance as .SQLExpress and my correct instance name is .SQL2008Express. I clicked OK on the connect dialog and manually changed my connection string to the correct instance and that worked but whenever I run the application in debug mode it give me the same error as above.

View 1 RepliesI added a new database using SQL Server Management studio express 2008. I can connect to that database using Web Developer and Visual Studio just fine. But when I try to connect from VB Express 2008 I get an error message "file in use by another program". VB only prompts me for the name of the database, but Web Developer and Visual Studio prompts me for both server instance and database name. I'm sure this is just something simple I'm missing.

View 3 RepliesFirst off, my apologies for being a complete Newb! I have a SQL Express database that I use quite successfully to track my investments in several accounts. I built it myself, it's quite functional, and Im happy with it. The problem is that there are multiple account tables and updating them can be tedious in SQL Server, if multiple purchases and sales in multiple accounts have occurred in a month. Tedium can lead to errors¦

So, what I'm trying to do is to connect to a remote database using the MySQL connector. Dim c As New MySqlConnection c.ConnectionString = "Server=" & URL & ";Database=" & "" & ";Uid=root" & ";password =" & "" c.Open()I know the connection string is correct. I can access the phpMyAdmin through a web-browser just fine. For some reason however trying to open the connection throws an exception 'Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts'. I tried disabling the VS debugging process, as I thought maybe it's blocking my MySQL access for some reason, but no.

WinFormsApp Login passes information to .php (server based) Login (provided credentials are correct) to DB to retrieve Decryption Key. WinFormsApp then uses Decryption key on Hardcoded encrypted connection string and renders application usable.This would then eliminate the necessity to encrypt/decrypt a connection string at runtime, virtually rendering any unauthorized person with a useless software.
