I am trying to write a Windows Script that will allow me to monitor the following: That 2 x seperate but specific processes within Component Services "Running Processes" list are currently running and have not reset within the past hour. If I already know the PID, then I can retrieve the CreationDate (I assume which I can use to check for restarts? or is this the actual process creation/installation date) for each specific process, however if a restart occurs the PID will change and my script needs to know what the new PID is without me telling it!

Trying to create a button that when clicked will check to see if a certain process image is running and if that process is running give the process focus. If the process is not running then start the application.
View 9 RepliesI'm calling the following method from a button click event to export a datatable to excel. After the export is completed, the excel application object is quit, released and assigned to nothing. But in reality it's not getting released and stays active unless the entire application is closed. So every time the button is clicked for export, a new excel application object keeps on running. The problem doesn't occur if two of the lines from the method below are not used. But I can't omit them as they are really needed. Check the * marked lines.

I need to check if a certain process is NOT running. So until now i've been using a loop and if it doesn't find the process then it alerts me (with MsgBox) however now i realized that the for each loops looks on each process and if that process isn't the one im looking for its gonna give me an alert, that it was not running even when the next process could be the one i need to know about. OK, I was talking to someone at work and he came up with this idea that I should make a program that notifies me if a certain process is running.
There is a process on another PC that I want to check if it is running or not because due to extreme memory usage issues of the program, we only run one instance of it at a time.
What I want to do is make a program so that I can know if that process is running without having to get up and check. But I'm not sure where to start exactly.
My friend said maybe use the WMI. With the WMI will I need a host/client program, the host detecting status of the process on the other machine which sends a message to the client program on my PC telling me if it is running or not.
I've never done something like this before so all I'm asking for is some direction into what technologies I need to be using and maybe some guides on how to go about this as I have no clue where to start.
Can you kindly tell me why I am getting a runtime exception when trying to run this code?

View 3 RepliesI am trying to send and receive data using the SerialPort component. I am sending data to an Texas Instruments MSP430 which simply echos the sent character. I wanted my VB solution to read characters from a file, send a single character, and wait until the echoed character is received before sending another.
I have been fairly successful thus far but I have run into a little catch. When I attempt to send large files (323505+ characters) my MSP430 just hangs there and will not receive any more characters. My VB app return to VS '08 with timeout errors (timeout set to 1 minute).

This service installs and runs perfectly fine on both XP and windows server 2003.We have a new 2008 box that we are migrating over to, so need to get this windows service up and running.When i try to 'start' the windows service on the 2008 machine, i get "Windows could not start the <service> service on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."I have searched everywhere looking for an answer, and all I could find was a fix attributed to .net framework 1.1 for this same error. That; however, is not applicable here, as the service was written in 2.0.

I have VB.net 2008 with 3.5. I also have Windows Mobile 6 SDK and 6.5 SDK. I am having an issue killing an external process with my app. I have searched and tried numerous bits of code and none seem to work for Mobile. I keep seeing GetProcessByName but that is not an option for Windows Mobile. I know the process exe but the PID changes so I cannot hard code that.

View 9 RepliesI am using the System.Net.Mail namespace to create and send email messages. Everything was working fine until a couple of QC members of our team noticed something strange.
If they send emails from within my application and then leave the application open for a while (perhaps working on other tasks on the PC), when they try and activate my application again, it appears to be hung. The CPU is not pegged and everything appears to be normal in the task manager. We narrowed it down and it appears that this issue only manifests itself when MS Outlook is also opened and connected to a server.
I was playing around with process monitor, but nothing I saw was really glaring. I actually started deleting some threads on the PC and eventually my application became usable again.
