VS 2008 Return Value To Main Form AFTER Each Iteration Is Completed?
Aug 31, 2009
how to raise an event.I have a class that does some calculation using a For... Next loop, from 0 to 100.How would I return the value to the main form AFTER each iteration is completed? How would I raise the event? I have read the documentation but I can't wrap my head around this.
My form contains lots and lots regular expression and other things in one button. whch when pressed takes some time to process.. so the form kind of gets stucked while the processing is bieng done.is there any coding for which it diables the entire form until the process is completed? like disabling the entire form and showing a text "please wait ... processing data" so user can not use other buttons or features at the same time or it might get crashed.
I have a SCADA program I'm working on, I need to add sum sort of paging when the user hits the page up/down button. I have about 100 station to show. I can fit 28 stations on one screen at 1280 X 1024.
I have a combobox on my main form and it lists geographical locations that the user creates. How do I make the combo-boxes on the sub forms match the one on the main form?
As of the moment I have 24 buttons that are keys to a piano.24 of the button codes have a call method that calls the note to be played.24 of the private subs that are called have an .wav audio playback command within them. I was hoping I could move the .wav private subs into a separate class, and just call them from my main form, therefore cleaning up the lines of code I have at the moment. [code]That example only counts for one Button "The Key of C", and the audio file that is called with it. Multiply that by 24 and you get a big mess of repetitive junk. Can I move the audio subs into a class and call them from my main form?
My app works fine on the development machine and 3 other machines. However, some machines just show the main login box and then fail to show the main screen. There is no error message. I installed VS 2008 express on on of such machines and when i compile the project, the following errors appear:
Type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Access.Application' is not defined. Type 'dao.DBEngine' is not defined.
What I'd like to do is in my application move a control like a groupbox or frame with content on it from e.g the main form to a tabpage on that same main form using code.
I can change the position of the control using it's location, but I haven't got a clue on how to move it from the main form to a tabpage, or from 1 tabpage to another.
-Is this at all possible and if so, how can it be achieved?
Ok Guys what id like to do is Have a set of buttons across the top of my form and when the user clicks one id like the botom of the form to change to reflect that click. Kind of like the Office 2k7 ribbon but apply that to the whole for
I have an app that connects to a remote database. The connection to the database is triggered by the form load event of the main start up form which prompts the user for user name and a password. Here is my problem:Sometimes it takes a number of seconds for the database connection to be established after the user has double clicked the desktop icon. this means that during this period it appears that no action is taking place until the startup form becomes visible. Some impatient users assume that nothing is happening and double click the icon again. What I want to do is to have a graphic image or something pop up on the screen immediately when the program starts that displays something like 'Connecting To Database, please be patient"
I have need for a customised form as the main page of my app, what I'm looking for is to create an amoebic shaped form, something like this. I realize that my 'window' will by nature need to be rectangular and that i will need it to have no titlebar and transparent edges, also i will need to have 'regions' on this form that will allow the form to be closed and turned into a standard rectangular form. I have no idea where to begin with doing this but I hope and presume it is possible with vb.net. The image I have used is for illustrative purposes only, i don't plan to do exactly this (my app is a database not a media player for one thing) If having it is a breach of copyright in this context I will remove it.
Q1: How can i make it so that my window that i want to show as a drop down does not appear to take the focus off the main form that is calling it?
Q2: The form that is dropping down has the FormBorderStyle Property set to None - thus the window does not have a drop down shadow - how can I make the popup window have a shadow?
i am currently trying to create an expenses calculator, the sort that includes all your monthly outgoings and give you a total. I would like to be able to fill the form in the save it + reload it when i run the program again, what is the best way to do this ?
I an trying to create a GUI and I have added a menu strip, under the tools section of the menu strip, I have added a settings option. I want to click settings and have it open another windows form linked to the main windows form with the menustrip in order to set certain parameters. How do I link these two boxes using the settings menu strip?
Am devloping an application with multiple forms, which reside on top of a main form. i.e the main application window. The 'child' forms do not need to be linked in any way as they do not pass information to the parent form, as all the parent form does is act as main window. Now I would like to know what is the correct way for the 'main window' form acting as a container for the other forms? So that all the smaller secondary forms stay focused on top of the main application form, that when the main window is minimized, so these forms should do also etc..
I have read other posts and they mention, leaving all the forms standard i.e. IsMdiContainer = False and then using form.showDialog() to call the secondary forms. This did not work for me as what happens is that as soon as I give focus to the main app form, the secondary form disappears underneath.I tired making the main app form IsMdiContainer = True and when it loads calling:
frmMemberForm.MdiParent = Me
Now this works, because I can click off the form and minimize the app etc and the frmMemberForm doesn't disappear. However if i close the MemberForm and reopen it, it looses this property and once again when it looses focus, it will disappear.
A program I'm developing launches dialog boxes to get information from the user. Right now, the user can still click on and manipulate the main form while the dialog box is open. How can I make the main form inaccessible until the user closes the dialog box?
I have a main form that has a button with which a smaller form is shown. Think of the smaller form as the Find/Replace dialog in many applications, such as Notepad. It's important that the form is (what I believe is called) modal. What I mean is that it always stays on top of the main form. I ensure that by calling the Show method with "Me" as the owner argument. Whenever the small form loses focus it will not disappear into the background but stay visible (albeit out of focus). If you don't understand open up Notepad and have a look at the behavior of the Find/Replace dialog.
Here's my problem: instead of actually closing the form when the X is pressed, I want it to simply Hide itself, so its position and the state of any controls (checkboxes etc) is preserved automatically. To achieve this I simply cancel the FormClosing event and Hide it:
vb.net Private Sub Form2_FormClosing(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles MyBase.FormClosing
[code]....
To show the form, I use the following (note the (Me) to make the main form the owner of the form; this ensures that it remains visible even when it is out of focus):
vb.net Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Form2.Show(Me) End Sub
Now. When I run my project, and open the Form2 (small form), then hide it again (by 'closing' it), I can no longer close the main form (Form1)! It seems the main form cannot close when the small form still exists (albeit invisible)...?? When I don't use the Me argument in the Show method, I don't get the behavior I want. I know I can set the TopMost property to True but that will also cause it to become visible on top of all the other forms, even windows not part of my application.
i have my main child form open. then i show the new form:
[Code]...
but when the form opens it flickers a lot. so i want move the new form behind the main form while it loads so the user does not see the flicker. once it is done loading i will set the form to topmost. how do i move the new form behind the main form?
How would i know when a thread is completed running it's task? I mean in background worker it has a completed event, but can i make something similar to that?
I been trying to create a section for my program to change the backgroundimage property of the main form. let me show the code: (some parts may be bad written but I was trying to try to find the problem) this code is a click event from a button
Dim frm As Form For Each frm In Forms Set frm = Nothing Next frm
The above code is what I used in VB6 to close all forms associated with my programs before my program closed. I have been searching for information on how to make sure all forms are closed when closing a VB2008 program.
I have seen info on using the Project Property Shutdown mode When startup form closes and I currently have this set.
Is this all that is really necessary? Will the garbage disposal close everything else to free up RAM?
Also, if I have several forms open and want to close all from the main form without closing each one individually, what is the best approach? Is there a collection like in VB6, go through the collection, compare it to the name of the main form and close it if it is not the main form?
I have a tool window that I want to stay above the main application form, but not stay on top of all windows forms. Similar to the floating properties window for visual studio - it always stays on top of the main VS window, but if I select another program, like internet explorer, the floating properties window will be behind internet explorer.
What I have is an application that has several forms that may be displayed at the same time. I have a Messages form that displays messages generated by the code in the form, that gives the status of the application. Obviously, the user would not normally be working on this form, but they may want it to be visible to see the status messages from the program (File saved confirmations, etc). So, my two options right now are I can set the form to be on top of all other windows forms or, when the user clicks on the main application form, the messages form would be hidden by the main form.
I've been asked by management to convert all of my applications from VB 2005 to VB 2008 (in preparation for taking them to VB 2010). I have a VS 2005 application that uses an ADO Data adapter which was defined using the GUI. I normally define my connections in code, but have been asked to get away from that in favor of ADO (and similar) data adapters. When I run the conversion wizard in VS 2008, it appears to convert this program, with some warnings and I get the 'Conversion Completed' dialog box. However, the VS 2008, will not let me close the dialog box, even after waiting for 3 hours. The only way to get out is to reboot the system.
I am creating a bulk media converter. In order to do this I need to go through each line in a list box one after the other and run the conversion function. I am trying to use the following:
For Each item In listVideos.Items conversion code Next
However this makes the program want to convert all videos at the same time... is there anyway to get the program to convert one video and then after the conversion code is completed to move to the next one?Should also be noted that I am using FFMPEG for this project.
How do i load the Main form of a WPF so that a seperate thread goes and gets data from the database while the form is in an apartmentstate? (drag-able / movable) I Know this is possible with opening a new window from your main form like this :
Private Sub openOrderWindow() Dim OrderWindow As Orders = New Orders OrderWindow.ShowDialog() End Sub
[code]....
I've tried putting MyBase.ShowDialog() and .Show() and .9000+ other things The only benefit I've got out of using a seperate thread to load from the databse is i can see the screen right away (as oppose to it being a transparent box until it loads) but i cannot move it around or minimize it?is there any way to make it Movable while it loads?
[Code] I want like to check if a file exist on main form, if not: force open settings form. And then when the user is closing the form with exit button = check if the file exist again. If it doesn't exist, close application. It's a huge application and I need optimized on most parts. Also, the settings form is asking the closing question two times.
