VS 2008 Switching From Access Database To SQL?

Feb 2, 2010

Most of my project started out using Access databases, but now I want to swap them out for the SQL versions. One example would be this:

DEMOGRAPHICSTableAdapter.FillByCount(EyeBaseDataSet.DEMOGRAPHICS)
SPat = EyeBaseDataSetSQL.DEMOGRAPHICS.Patient_NumberColumn.Ordinal
'TODO: This line of code loads data into the 'EyeBaseDataSet.History' table. You can move,

Switching Between Open Access Databases?

simple coding procedure or recommend a resource for switching between two or more open Microsoft Access databases within a VB.net program, while keeping the same indexed place in each database? Switching Selected Row In A Database

Nov 21, 2009

I'm writing a flash cards program to help myself and others study. When the user presses the "New Card" button, I've been able to make it create the new card and jump to edit it, but the dataset/binding source/table adapter is not switching with it, so when you deselect the text box, it switches back to whatever was selected before the new card was made.[code]

Switching Database Dynamically - MySettings.Connection

Oct 20, 2011

I have a connectionstring in MySettings which all my datasets use. The project has three copies of the same database: LIVE, WHATIF and TEST. I need to have a dialog in my startup that asks the user which db they want to use and then I thought I could amend MySettings.Connection string dynamically. Hey-ho it's read-only! Is there any other approach I can use where I change a connection string once and all my datasets will then point to the selected db?

Switching Between SQL 2008 And SQL 2000 In VB

Jun 18, 2009

I have written a VB 2008 Standard Edition program using a SQL 2008 Epress database in my development environment. When I point my program to the production SQL 2000 database it blows up. With the following error:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio
---------------------------
GentranDataSet.Document_tb.Fill,GetData () could not be previewed.

The text, ntext, and image data types cannot be compared or sorted, except when using IS NULL or LIKE operator.

---------------------------
OK Help
---------------------------

The tables are "exactly" the same in the two databases... I think.

I have done some reading and wonder if this could be a unicode and non-unicode issue. Is 2000 non-unicode and 2008 unicode?

Can I "refresh" my data enviroment without having to re-create all my data objects in my VB code?

VB 2008 - Can't Access MDB Database File?

Oct 27, 2010

My problem does not seem to be the same as in other links. I'm trying to teach myself VB 2008 and I want to connect to an Access MDB file. I follow the instructions in all the different books and websites. I start a new project, choose a new data connection, change the type to Microsoft Access and browse for the file. When I get the connection string I press "Test Connection" and it's okay. I then drag either the entire table or just a field to the form. I use Data Preview Data and can see all the rows and columns and the data, so I know the connection has been made. however, when I press F5 I get a form, but no data and it says "0 records of 0".

I accessed the code and put a MsgBox before and after the "Fill" statement. The one before pops up, but the second one (below Fill) does not. I also get "A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll" in the Immediate Window. I have tried putting a "Try" statement around the code and in this case it will go to the second MsgBox, but still no data.

I'm following what seems to be the most basic and simple method, but I cannot get data in my form.
