I have a database named "StudentData" with table "StudentDetails" with "RECNO" which is Auto Numbered (and is Primary key) and a number of different fields which accepts Students Name, class, accedemic year and so on.
What i want to do with the RECNO is, i want to make a combobox which will be filled with the record number of the students, when i click on any number from the dropdown list, i want the other fields like the txtName (for students name), txtClass, txtACYear etc to be field with each RECNO they belonged to.
Been trying to make my .net prog connect to an access database. I cant figure out why I keep getting this generic error message. A first chance exception of type 'System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException' occurred in System.Data.dll Heres my code. This is my class to create the connection to the database:

This program is very difficult for me, but I must get threw it or I cannot finish... What I am doing is making a Database of foreign Languages with the spelling of the words and the pronounciation inside the database... The USER enters a paragraph of words into the translator textbox and pushed translate. The program has a DATABANK of words with the phonetic spellings and matches the word, then translates to phonetics. The problem is that new words keep appearing inside the language. So I incorporated a Database of 2 fields

View 2 RepliesThe problem has been simplified for the purpose of clarity. I want to make a windows form application that uses an access database. The application will store the list of person's basic details such as name, age and country. The database contains two related tables ie person(id, name, age, country_id) and country(id, country_name) My windows form contains TextBox, DateTimePicker, ComboBox for Name, Age and Country respectively. Now I want to make CRUD operation Programmatically (Not using Visual tools) in the same form with some navigation buttons.

I am trying to make an oledb connection to an Access database.
1. I added a component class. It said drag from the toolbox to add components.
2. I dragged over the Oledbconnection and OledbdataAdapter
3. I clicked on new connection string for the oldeb Connection and try to connect to the SHX.mdb datababase in the debug/ bin folder I don't have a username or password for the database and do not want to set one up.( is this possible in .net?)
4.As soon as I try to test the connection, I get the "invalid authorization specification" message. I can't get past this and do not really understand why I am getting this message.I have vb 2005 standard edition, not express edition. The exact same thing happens when I try to set up the data adapter to the shx.mdb database.
I am on XP2 and not logged in with a password or username. Could this be the issue or is there something else I am overlooking. Also, since I am coming from vb6 and ADO is there anyway to just write the code without having to use datasets, adapters and oledb connections to bound controls?
The project must have different user and each has username and password will be saved in my database but only the admin can add users.

[code] info: using access 2003 (.mdb) the Date of Birth field has been set into Date/Time.
View 2 RepliesI have spent several hours trying to delete a row and insert a row into an Access database using the OLEDBDataadapter and dataSets without any success. I don't get any errors it just doesn't update the datatable. Here is the last version of the code I have been trying to get to work. I have done a lot of searching and have

View 3 RepliesMy problem does not seem to be the same as in other links. I'm trying to teach myself VB 2008 and I want to connect to an Access MDB file. I follow the instructions in all the different books and websites. I start a new project, choose a new data connection, change the type to Microsoft Access and browse for the file. When I get the connection string I press "Test Connection" and it's okay. I then drag either the entire table or just a field to the form. I use Data Preview Data and can see all the rows and columns and the data, so I know the connection has been made. however, when I press F5 I get a form, but no data and it says "0 records of 0".
I accessed the code and put a MsgBox before and after the "Fill" statement. The one before pops up, but the second one (below Fill) does not. I also get "A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidOperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll" in the Immediate Window. I have tried putting a "Try" statement around the code and in this case it will go to the second MsgBox, but still no data.
I'm following what seems to be the most basic and simple method, but I cannot get data in my form.
I would like to know how could i connect my Visual Basic program to a database that can be opened to MS Access. My friend made a program that links to a database that opens in MS Access and when you open the database the inputted data are organized to their respective columns and rows. However he used VB6 in making the program and he wont let me see the syntax. And another thing, the program that he made updates the database everytime a new set of data is inputted.
View 8 RepliesCurrently I have this "commands" to access to a database in my computer:
Public conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source= " & System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory & "bd2.mdb;Persist Security Info=False;")
Dim strSQL As String = SQLcommand
Public cmd As New OleDbCommand(strSQL, conn)
My question is: Is there a way to connect to that database online?
Example: bd2.mdb is on [URL]

I've just started learning Visual Basic 2008 and I am stuck with accessing a database through VB, I am using the Data Source Configuration Wizard. Everything goes fine until I start debugging, there is no information in any of the fields. However if I use a different computer in the house I can look at different records.
