VS 2010 Adding Items To A ComboBox To Control A Timer?
Jan 4, 2011
I've tried a couple things to add items to a combobox (I've also Googled a lot but haven't found anything for VB2010) and on top of that, how to make it so that if the user selects 10ms, it changes the Timer1.Variable to 10.
Here is my progress from what I found on Google
Private Sub ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox1.SelectedIndexChanged
ComboBox1.Items.Add("10ms")
[Code]....

In VB.Net for an ASP project I was able to do the following:
Dim Item As ListItem While DataReader.Read Item = New ListItem Item.Text = DataReader.Item("CustomerName").ToString Item.Value = DataReader.Item("CustomerNumber").ToString Me.lstCustomers.Items.Add(Item) End While
However in a VB.Net Windows Project it won't let me duplicate this.
I need to display the CustomerName but return the CustomerNumber of the selected customer
I am also adding the items in code because they are changing based on changing values.

i am having 11 comboboxes and 11 tabpages in 1 tabcontrol each tab page having one combobox.i kept the name of combobox like combobox1,combobox2,combobox3.....and so on also there are other comboboxes in tabpages but they are of different name i had also kept the tag property of combobox from 0 to11 for each one now what i want to do is add the same item in all comboboxes for that i wrote code like:-
dim combos() as string=new string("A","B","C"....)
dim tp as tabpage
dim cnt as combobox
for each tp in me.tabcontrol1
[code]....
but this displays an error syntax like:"expression is of type System.windows.form.tabcontrol,which is not a collection type." i just want to add same items in combobox of each tabpage ..

I have to add item "Final Grade" to my cboQuarter. The thing is, my cboQuarter already has a datasource and I can't add the item "Final Grade" during drop-down. The error says, "cannot modify or insert (can't remember word by word) when it already has a datasource."

Is there any good trick to speeding up a ComboBox when adding items? Even if I run simple test code, it takes about 10-15 seconds to finish...
Code:
For x = 0 To 3000
cboPeople.Items.Add(x.ToString)
Next
cboPeople is a combobox.

The stored procedure is supposed to get all the records and what I want to do with the result set is to add all the items to a combobox. I have started off with the following and not sure where to go with this:

I have
- system.windows.forms.timer with a 20 second interval
- it checks the status of a website using HttpWebResponse
- I have a datagridview with a column that holds the website(s) name
- Once the timer gets the results its places the results in another column on the datagridview
- a for loop will loop through the column that holds the websites name and posts the results for each row/website.
If all the sites are up and running it works fine. If a site is down HttpWebResponse takes about 10 seconds to return the reason why and the program can not be used during that time. So I read up on timers and realized there were 3 kind. The System.Timers.Timer sounded like a better solution since it runs on a worker thread. This sounds perfect since the user can still use the GUI without waiting for the timer to realize the site is down. The problem I have is if i tried to get the row count of the datagridview so I can loop through the sites messagebox. show (frmMain. dgvMonitoredSites.Rows.Count - 1) it will always return 0 even if there are over 10 rows. It's almost as if it's looking at a datagridview in another instance. Is there anyway I can get this system.timer to see the items in the datagrid?

The following code will display items in the listview control when For Each strElementToSearch As String In fruitArray loops once using the string strTheses1 however when it loops again using the string strTR1 it will replace the items from the first loop. In another words I want to keep adding items to the ListView control. [Code]

I have created a user control that mimics what a label does. I realize I could have inherited the label control, but I am working on understanding the process. I wish to add items to the control. normally (in the code of my project) would do:
Form1.Label1.Controls.Add(mylabel)
After creating mylabel in the code of course.

I am very new to Visual Basic, and I need to add items from my database to the ListView control. I have a table in the database called tblChannels that I would like to draw the information from and populate the ListView control in VB, in the form of a column. I currently am unsure about how to go about doing this. Previously I have created combo boxes that draw the information from the database, but trying this method for the ListView does not work how I want it to.

In the windows form designer, I added a StatusStrip control, made some changes to adding items and changed the names of the items to names I would recognize, for instance I changed "ToolStripStatusLabel3" to "lblMode". All was fine until I inadvertenly deleted the StatusStrip. Now when I add it back to the form and try to change the name I get an error saying that the name "lblMode" is already in use. And sure enough it is listed in the items of the properties window, but not dislayed anywhere.
I am not sure how to resolve this. I know there is a window, I think its called "Project Designer" or something similar that is code where controls get added but I CANNOT find this window to view the code.

Im currently doing a small programme of a register system. I need to add a new group box filed with a few textboxes and a couple comboboxes for each entry in a access 2010 database. for example if i had someone called bob in my database with his details i would like the GUI of the VB app to add in a new textbox for the name, a textbox for the address ect in a set order, this needs to work for multiple entry's so the textboxes ect don't overlap but be placed neatly below the added textbox.

I'm working on a program in which I have 2 comboboxes and have to be able to add new Items in both of them, now that all no problems at all but as soon as I close the program I loose all my Items. Is it possible to add a code which checks if an Item already exists and if so give a error message and don't add the new Item to the combobox?

So I'm using the following code to add items into my list box, and I'm trying to get it to check the contents of the list box as well.
Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
If ListBox2.Items.Contains(TextBox3.Text) Then
MsgBox("Character already exists!")
Else
ListBox2.Items.Add(New LBnfo With {.v4 = RadioButton6.Checked,
[Code] .....
But when I try to compare the two:
If ListBox2.Items.Contains(TextBox3.Text) Then
MsgBox("Character already exists!")
Else
It doesn't show the message box even when the character actually does exist. I believe the problem is that I never do add the item really. I just use, "Return Me.character," which is assigned the value of Textbox3. So I just need to figure out how to check Me.character before returning it.

I am disabling line items in a combobox I have based on various test conditions (see code below). The problem is that when I first open the combobox my method below isn't getting called. It only gets called when the mouse hovers over each line item.
This is resulting in the list looking very different before/after a hover (see png file for a before/after picture).
how to show the list disabled on open?
Private Sub ComboBox31_DrawItem(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs) Handles ComboBox31.DrawItem

How would one go about checking a listbox's items for duplicates? Basically I need to write a program that displays the teams from a text file provided by my instructor, in alphabetical order. I can do that, but what I can't figure out is how to prevent the For loop from adding a duplicate team. What I'm envisioning is:
If teams(i).name is not in lstTeams.Items Then
lstTeams.Items.Add(teams(i).name)
End If
I have a program that compiles and works so far, except for the above problem and my alphabetical order (which I can probably figure out on my own:
Public Class danbrockteams
Structure team
Dim name As String
[Code]....
This works except that my listbox is filled with the team every player is in rather than just listing all possible teams. Not exactly looking for someone to just give me the answer, as I understand things best when figuring them out on my own, so I suppose a hint is what I'm really after.

I've created a form that has a timer control. When this form loads it counts down before running a procedure. Simple.
Now I want to subclass this form in a new VB.NET project to so that another form inherits this form (an it's timer functionality) and runs a different procedure on this new form.My problem is that when I create the form in my new project the timer from the parent form seems to be running and when it's time is up it runs and code and crashes the VS environment.
I've searched high and low but have only found references to making sure the timer is disabled at design time. I've done this on the parent form but in this parent form's Load event the timer is enabled.... the purpose of the form. So when the child form loads it is enabling the timer. How can I work around this? Can I enable the timer from the child form? Timer is not visible when the child form loads so how do I manipulate it?

When someone saves record in the Register product table, items should be added into the combobox into Sell product table.

I`m fairly new to coding (2 weeks) and having some trouble with a timer application to control a greenhouse misting system. The problem arose after resolving the 65 second interval limitation for tmrPause, it appears the tmrPulse line is never reached as lblCycleStatus.Text doesnt display "Pulse" where it did before. I may have bitten off more than i can chew for a first project but i`d appreciate any pointers as to where i went wrong so i can learn from it.[code]
