is there any way to find which window has focus on it?
View 9 RepliesI am new to VB.net, i did a course in it about 5 years ago, and could do simple programs, but lost most of my knowledge, because i have not used it in such a long time, now i want to do something and cant seem to get it right, i have this game that i a play online, and i have a few accounts for it, so i would like to make a account logger, wher the usernames and passwords will be saved in a text file, and then i just open the vb program, select the username and the vb program will automatically set focus to the game window (which is windowed, not full screen).
Problem is just, the game client has 4 buttons, New Account, Play Game, About and Credits, i want to get a way for the VB program to set focus to the program(bring it to front, and then move the mouse to the coordinates of the play game button, goto coordinates of the username text box, click and write the username, same for password and then move to login button coordinates and click logon, wait a sec or two and move to either character 1, 2, 3's login button and click)

Is there an easy way to find out what the active window is within the .NET framework?
I have seen a few methods via google using API calls, but I thought that was what .NET was supposed to eliminate, by giving the programmer a way to get access to everything within the framework?
So here is an example of a program im trying to interact with. I read up on sendmessage and findwindow functions but don't understand exactly how to communicate past finding the window
Im trying to click that selected item in that listbox. First i found the main window hwnd and now im trying to figure how to find the information needed to be able and click that selected item in the listbox.

i am trying to figure out how to go about finding this window's label when the control name is the same as all the other labels on the program.[code]All 3 labels are named the same. The one i am most interested in is a progress % counter (1%, 2%, 3%, etc..)How can i get the value (using a timer of course) from that label without knowing the caption of it at any given time??

I'm really new at programming and was looking for guidance about a project I have.I have to design a program that administers a multiple choice test to users. It delivers questions one at a time, from a predefined test file for the user to answer. It also marks and displays a score at the end of the test.
First, a QUESTION form verify's the user's registration status and access. The user provides a registration number and password and the program reads it from a "registration.txt" file to determine if the user is eligible to take the test (i.e., they are registered to take it). If it is correct, then the user presses the "Begin" button. If not, then a message appears and the student tries again to enter the information.
A read only text box will display the score at the end of the test (String with format correct/total) and the user can't retake the test.Second, a QUESTION form opens after clicking "Begin" on the entry form. The questions are going to be from a "testfile.txt" file. Each question is on multiple lines in the file. The first line consists of the question followed by possible answers followed by the correct answer ( 3 items are separated by "#"). The current question number and the question will be displayed in textboxes.'n'= possible answers; so each of the next 'n' lines provides a possible answer. All possible answers will be displayed in a Listbox. After the user selects an answer, an ''Enter'' button is pressed. This will submit and evaluate the answer. If nothing is selected a textbox should appear and display the error message (APPEARS ONLY IF THERE IS AN ERROR). After pressing ''Enter'', the next question is displayed. When all questions answered, the entry form is displayed again and displays the score.
I know that's a lot of information, but I wanted it to be really clear. Would it be best to cycle/loop the questions with a DoWhile loop? And how would I store the answers while the user goes through the test?
Excuse me for posting this, but I have searched both Google along with this forum before asking this question, maybe I'm not using the right keywords but I apologize if it's easy to find.I would like to know how one could close a third-party window (application) if a specified string was found in the window title.

How can I get the handle of the window that is below (or behind, whatever you call it) the foreground window?
View 2 Replieshow I could test for an English Language bar? I have some German users that need to run with and English Language bar, so I want to test and prompt if not English.
View 1 RepliesI would like to develop a very simple question-answer program whereby there is a user form with a label which contains the question, a text box where the user enters the answer and a button that the user clicks to change to the next question. This should be rather simple but I would like to have about 500 questions in the end (will be slowly adding more questions).
View 19 Repliesi would like for my first project to be a CPU stress testing program (kind of like Core Damage or Intel Burn Test).I have no problem designing the form, but how and where should I start? I've done some searching, but haven't really found much. I think the reason for that is because nobody is really going to just give out source code for anything (which is completely understandable).
The main thing I would like to understand is what exactly makes the CPU work at 100%? And how could I design it to where it automatically determines the amount of cores/threads the CPU has, and utilize them 100% without having to open up one instance for each? Or is that jumping too far ahead?
EDIT > I know that I'll need to create some kind of loop for the CPU to process over and over until closed. I was thinking something along the lines of calculating Pi to 32 million digits or something like that.
> Another goal is to have some sort of error checking capability. I am an overclocker, and I would like to have this ability with this program. For example, it I make it to calculate Pi, then I would like for it to tell me if there were any errors in the digits it produced.

View 4 RepliesI'm obtaining data from a StreamReader. My StreamReader is called "reader" and I'm reading the stream with "responseOutput" like this "responseOutput = reader.ReadToEnd()" And in that bunch of text that I receive I want to FIND and EXTRACT a piece of text and then STORE that extraction in a variable of String type. Here is part of the code I'm referring to:
Dim response = request.GetResponse
Dim responseOutput As String
Dim reader As StreamReader
reader = New StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream())
responseOutput = reader.ReadToEnd()
And here is the text or data that I'm receiving (what I'm about to show you is the result of a "MessageBox.Show(responseOutput)":
<TweetPhotoResponse xmlns="http://tweetphotoapi.com" xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"><Large>http://cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com/c54092/x2_7e143b</Large><MediaId>7e143b</MediaId><MediaUrl>http://tweetphoto.com/8262715</MediaUrl><Medium>http://cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com/c54102/x2_7e143b</Medium><Original>http://cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com/c61132/x2_7e143b</Original><PhotoId>8262715</PhotoId><SessionKeyResponse/><Status>OK</Status><Thumbnail>http://cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com/c54112/x2_7e143b</Thumbnail><UserId>2268670</UserId></TweetPhotoResponse>
And all I want to do, is to extract a specific part of that text, which is the "PhotoId" value (I highlighted it in red), in this case the value is "8262715", and then store it in a variable (I know how to do that I just need the value). The text or data I'm receiving changes only the PhotoId everytime it's requested.
I loaded a text file to a text box, and I want the program to find a certain line containing only the strings I specify. But the text file will likely contain many of them, so I want it to pause scanning at the first line I'm looking for until I tell it to continue, then the second line, and so on. So the questions are:
1. What's the method for finding the exact line I want in a text file?
2. How do you start, pause, and resume scanning a text file line by line?
I have 2 images. One image is a large image and the second one is a small one. The small image has a copy of itself within the large image. I am wanting to find the coordinates of where the second image is located within the large image, a 'find feature' in other words. e.g, I might have an image with the word "Test" in it. And I want to find the coordinates of the letter 'e'...
View 8 RepliesWhat are the best ways you guys recommend to search the MSDN Code Library. I know there have been several instances in searching for ways to do something, doing a long workaround, and finding out later that there was a built in class that handled the problem that I was working on much simpler.
So what are some of the ways you guys use to find tools, classes, etc. when coding. Or are you just that awesome already. This is kindve just a general tips and tricks question. Sorry if Im in the wrong forum mods.
I am downloading a JPEG image from a site and then I need to find the darkest pixel of that image. It also needs to be very fast since speed DOES count here, majorly. (probably has to use an API)
View 4 Repliesin the old days i could so something like
GWBasic
10 A$="ReallyLongStringInSmallSpace": B$="tiny"
20 PRINT USING" ASDFASDFASDF ASDFASDF"; A$; B$
Output:
"Re ASDFASDFASDF tiny ASDFASDF"
it would automatically truncate large strings to fit in a small assigned space, and it would use empty spaces for strings too short. it made it VERY easy to print fixed front text tables in aligned columns by automatically truncating long lines and expanding using spaces (chr 32) where needed.i've already looked at .Format but it seems just for dates, times, currencies, and various byte/hex formats.
I have a form, that when opened, displays the image from the webcam onto it.
It's a test, to ensure the webcam is working. A prompt appears that asks if the webcam is working. However, some testers are lying and I need to find a method to make sure they can't lie.
My team wants to use a large bar code that the tester has to hold in front of the camera.
So I need to figure out how to either read the bar code, or just read the text in the bar code, which reads, "* C A M *."
It looks like the image below, but much larger.
Does anyone know where I should begin? I was thinking about using GetPixel, but I'm not sure I could or if that would be reliable enough.
I am loading a webpage within WebBrowser1 and trying to check the page for text. I just want it to find whether or not the text on the page says "No jobs are available at this time." and if those words are not found then I am going to have the program alert me. When I run this code..

I'm not sure where I'm going wrong with this. it's supposed to let the user add scores to the list, then calculate the total, average, and count. However, it doesn't let me add more values to the list. Any help whatsoever would be awesome! Keep in mind, I am new to VB and programming languages, and was just playing around with code hoping for any sort of positive result, and therefore some of the code may not be necessary, or make sense. Here's what I have now:
