VS 2010 ComboBox - Show A Number In The File I Am Making?
Jun 29, 2010
I am trying to convert watever is in the ComboBox to a number. So say I select "Grey" in the ComboBox I want it to show a number in the file i am making. My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText(TextBox_ChooseFolder.Text & "" & TextBox_ItemID.Text & "-" & TextBox_ItemName.Text & ".sql",<ComboBox Number Here>, True)
I have tried
My.Computer.FileSystem.WriteAllText(TextBox_ChooseFolder.Text & "" & TextBox_ItemID.Text & "-" & TextBox_ItemName.Text & ".sql",If ComboBox1.Select = "Grey" Then "0" ElseIf ComboBox1.Select = "White" Then "1" ElseIf ComboBox1.Select = "Cream" Then "2" End If,True) ...I am new to Visual Studio!
I have form 1 (User Details) and form 2 (Transport Usage). Now in form 1 there is a textbox which shows the user's ID and when i click a button that links form 1 (user details) to form 2 (transport usage) i want another textbox in form 2 to have the same user ID as in form 1. (the user ID always changes)
i have an app that has many suggest append comboboxes in the style of just straight dropdown.
I also clear the text in all of these draopdowns via resettext() in a loop when my user clicks a 'New' button
is there any way to either A:
make the combobox read only (without selecting dropdownlist)
or B:
allow suggest append to fire on all keystrokes instead of only when it sees a match in the combobox....
example: combobox1 contains the following items:
- apples - oranges - bananas
as of right now, if my user types in "pears" it won't see any 'P' and won't suggest anything else or even drop down the combobox and allow "Pears" to be entered and because my app does processing only on the items in the list, "pears" then throws an exception....I'm trying to force them to choose only the items in the list and not be allowed to enter anything else while still enjoying the clean look of a resettext() on a combobox
Private Sub importdiag_FileOk(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.ComponentModel.CancelEventArgs) Handles importdiag.FileOk For Each track As String In importdiag.FileNames playlist.Items.Add(track) Next End Sub
[code].....
This is the current code im using. it shows in the listbox i have the file that i select. It also shows how ever where its located. Ex. C:folder\folder\file. I want only the files name to show up in the box but i cannot figure it out.
I have a program that needs to display a playlist of songs, for a band performing someplace, from a .txt file. The songs in the file are listed as follows:
All You Need is Love-Beatles Rock 4.25
[code]....
The first line is the song's title and group name. The second is the songs genre. The third line is the songs length, 4.25 is 4 minutes and 25 seconds.upon clicking a button, I need to display a playlist from this .txt file based on the number of minutes the band has to play, minutes entered into a TextBox, and the songs genre, selected from a ComboBox. The songs cannot repeat and must be random.I have already coded the program to read the .txt file but have not clue where to start with the rest.
The remarked area works fine when I'm accessing a specific table. I've successfully inserted the products_model field into the combobox too. The datagridview does show the table names in the db using the SHOW TABLES sql statment, but I'm not understanding how to get this info into the combobox instead.
if we say i have a program and i want it to launch another .exe So the code of them being able to choose where it's located is "openfiledialog".But can i make it save the setting somehow, so it makes a small document/text-file thingy so it can read the locations from the file ?Or is there someway that the program remembers it ? I want it to ask for a file location first, and then next time pushing the button "start" it remembers the location ?
I'm writing a program for my algebra students to practice integers.Stuff like....
3-6 -4 + (-5) 3(-4) -15 3 etc.
I want to show an explanation and for the addition and subtraction, I want to show it on a number line. For example, if the problem is 3 - 7, the number line should show and arrow to that goes right to 3, and then left 7 units (starting from 3). Then the student can see that the answer is -4.I could probably do this with some string manipulation, but what would be the easiest way to do it in a picture format? Maybe a bitmap.
In VB if you prompt the user for a number between 1-20, then a word, how do you get a text box to show the word the same number of time as the number selected using loops?... Ex: please select a number: 4 / select a word: cat....the text box should display ::: catcatcatcat ........
I am doing this for a class and my brain has locked up. Prob. just over thinking it though. Thanks in advance for any help!
Part of my assignment is to check if input to Group Number and Number of Units are correct input by making error handling exceptions...
I have to check the following: a) group number is neither 501 nor 062 b) number of units are NOT numbers c) number of units is NOT a positive number
So my first question is, am I checking correctly? 2nd question is, How do I make sure my Exceptions will pertain to their correct respective things (a, b, and c.. above)?
I have a table in my database with 5 columns (ID1 to ID5) and just one row. I'm trying to bind a comboBox, to show ID1 through ID5 in the combobox when my form loads. I have a dataset and tableAdapter's made for this already. I just want to know how to bind a combobox to those ID values.
Im making a class that represents a file. Im making a sub that reads data from one byte array into many properties. Now i need something that returns a byte array but only the first 4. Let me demonstrate because i can't think of a logical way of explaining. "something".substring(0,3) That would return a string containing "som" i need a function like that for a byte array
[code]...
Is there an existing function for this type of thing ? i've looked but didn't see anything that I understood.
i'm creating a simple search application which have a TEXT box and some combo boxes and radio buttons and a search button.radio button names "Videos", "Audios", "Pics" etc..when radiobutton of video is selected, a combobox is appear having options "DailyMotion", "Metacafe" etc I want that when i click "Metecafe" item in combobox of video, an other combo box appear having items Like "Entertainment", "How To", "+18" etc(categories of video search).
if combobox1.SelectedItem = "PAKISTAN" Then combobox2.Visible = True End if if combobox1.SelectedItem = "INDIA" Then
I have been working on a project, and I was wondering if theres any way of making a ComboBox with images. I have an ImageList, and I want each item in the ComboBox to have an image right next to it, from the ImageList.
I was hoping someone could help me please, how do you list all files in a directory in a combobox?
The following works to display all folders.
cbolist.Items.AddRange((From folder In New IO.DirectoryInfo("Path").GetDirectories Select (folder.Name)).ToArray)I have tried the following but it fails
cbolist.Items.AddRange((From folder In New IO.DirectoryInfo("Path").GetDirectories Select (file.Name)).ToArray)
Alright, so what I'm looking to do is make a dock or some other thing that I can hide/show for programs. Kind of like a shortcut holder. how to approach the issue. I'm thinking maybe I could make a new button based on some settings in the VB thing, but that seems rather inconvenient. I was also wondering if anybody knew how to get the icons from shortcuts or the rest to use those as display pictures. "Victory is difficult to see beyond the devestation incurred in its pursuit."
I am disabling combobox in VB.net. But in disable mode it not visible properly. I tried changing both BackColor and ForeColor but it is not working.
Code :
cmbbox.BackColor = Color.FromName("Window") or cmbbox.ForeColor = Color.FromName("Window")
I am making my component enable false. But I want to make it viewable. You can reffer the link. This is what exacly I want but in VB.Net : A combobox that looks decent when it is disabled
In my combobox I have a list of sub folders (so all folders in my Jobs folder), each sub folder has a text file called summary.txt - would it be possible to display fields from the summary.txt in various textboxes if a folder is selected from the combobox? I use the following coding to display folder list in my combobox
Last time this forum was the most helpful in solving my problems in vb 2005?This time I am writing a "lottery number picking" program. The program randomly picks 7 numbers from 39, with pre defined conditions on the strength of statistical data, and writes the possible combinations in a text file. It works fine, BUT- the program generates number of combinations I tell it to generate. With other words it works like
For i = 0 to 1000 generate_number() Next i
So this way I get 1000 combinations. how can I make the program generate all the possible combinations by itself? For example:
Do while (not reached the last combination) generate_number() Loop
While I don't know exactly how many combinations there are, I have a slight problem knowing which the "last" combination is.
I am having a bit of trouble showing content in my comboBox as i type. The idea is to: As the user is typing into a combo box, say the user types the letter L. would like for all the words in the dictionary.txt beggining withto be shown in the combo box.
I'm working on a new version of something I had created years ago in VB6. What I was doing then is populating a combobox with lines from a sequential file ("title","URL") like this: Open "data.dat" For Input As #1 Do While Not (EOF(1)) Input #1, NameInput, URLInput cmbEntry.AddItem NameInput Loop
And then checking against it on a button click to load the URL associated with the selected name: Open "data.dat" For Input As #2 Do While (cmbEntry.Text <> NameInput) And (Not (EOF(2))) Input #2, NameInput, URLInput Loop [Code] .....
What I'm trying to do in Visual Basic 2010 is the same process, though I'll be including a third field ("category","title","URL") to determine which one of four different comboboxes I add the entry to. I know I need to use streamreader, but I'm not finding much in the way of documentation or examples on how to do what I'm trying to do, which is: - Populate one of four comboboxes with the second value in each line of an external text file, based on the first value in that line - Set a string to the third value in a line of an external text file, based on the second value of that line How to read these values from the file.
How would i get the primary key id number from a Table WITHOUT making a second trip to the database in LINQ To SQL?
right now, i submit the data to a table, and make another trip to figure out what id was assigned to the new field (in an auto increment id field). I want to do this in LINQ To SQL and not in Raw SQL (I no longer use Raw SQL).
also, seond part of my question is: i am always careful to know the id of a user thats online because i'd rather call their information in various tables using their id as opposed to using a guid or a username, which are all long strings... i do this because i think that SQL Server doing a numeric compare is much (tentative use of the word 'much') more efficient than doing a username (string) or even a guid (very long string) compare.
im making a random number guessing game type thing, i have the main thing done, but I was just wondering, how could I get it to show the integer rndnumber in the message box that comes up? I think its something like &= or something, but I havn't even been using VB for a week, so im can't figure it out. Here is my script:
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If RadioButton1.Checked = True Then[code]......
