I would like to write on a game window while I am ingame, Like steam or xfire for some basic functions.Anyway I can do this by calling Graphics.FromHwnd() In rapid succession and then it looks really flickery. The game is using DirectX, is there a way to sort of "Inject" something to be drawn into the paint event ? even if this is not possible with vb.net I can do C# or C++ if I know how.

View 7 RepliesI programmed with Bitblt in VB6 for about 5-6 years and now I switched to DirectX and VB.net. When I would make games in VB6, I would draw out the entire level into layers that were saved into memory on DC's.In DirectX however, I'm looking for the equivalent of that but cant find any examples around.I use a viewport system to follow the player along in the map, I copy only what is in the viewport over to the users screen.Image attached to better visualize what i mean.

View 10 RepliesI have started to work some more on my 'shape editor'. If you're not familiar with it,ust imagine the Visual Studio form designer: a 'canvas' (the form) with a bunch of 'shapes' (the controls) that can be selected, moved, resized, etc. I have just finished implementing snapping between shapes and the canvas boundaries. But now I am having some slight issues with painting the snap lines.Just FYI: this is what I mean by snap lines:The blue lines that indicate that the 'buttons' are snapped to each other, and a purple line indicating that button1 is snapped to the boundary.
My shape editor is based loosely on jmcilhinney's 'manipulating GDI+ drawings' codebank entry, and a central idea in that post is to only draw what is necessary. In other words, when I move a shape I could re-draw the entire canvas, but it is much faster and smoother to only re-draw the old and the new location of the shape. Since nothing else has changed, I don't need to draw the rest. So, I simply invalidate the old bounds and the new bounds, and even with a lot of shapes all moving simultaneously it still feels very smooth.
How would I Pre-Draw/Pre-Rendering Controls on a form before it appears? Is this possible??
View 10 RepliesI'm writing a simple program that takes a screenshot of tab1 of the GUI, then takes a screenshot of tab2, then tab3, etc. I've got the screenshot code down pat, but the problem with my current code is that it's taking the screenshot of each tab before the screen has a chance to fully redraw, so the resulting images are screwed up.Is there a way to get the program to wait for each tab (and all the controls in it) to be fully visible before each screenshot is taken?I'd like to avoid using a timer for this, as the screen redraw speed will vary depending on the user's computer, and the contents of each tab, etc.[code]

Now, it draws perfectly when I drag left to down (vice versa), but when I try and drag the opposite way (this is when I get negative x and y values), it doesn't seem to draw the rectangle.I've tried fixing it but with no luck at all, it just messes it up :c

View 9 RepliesI'm planning on a very basic game created in VB.Net WinForms and a web server(shared) which will host PHP and MySQL.I think, I can create this basic game with no problems. But my headache is with the communication part In the db(MySQL db in the web server), there'll be usernames and password listed in a table. When my vb app is opened, it would ask for the username and password. The user enters his username and password. This data is compared with the data in the db. If a match is found, then the game starts and the user can play the game. At the end of game, it will ask for the confirmation to send highscores to the webserver. When confirmed by the user, the highscore will be send to the webserver, which will be then stored in the MySQL db.
The game will be a simple one just like Tic-Tac-Toe or a text based game.What all things do you recommend for the development/communication part of this game ?
I display a Chart with several graphic lines on it. What I want to do is draw a line (using the mouse) overtop or below the chart such that it can be seen on the chart. The mouse line draw code is below. What is required is either make
the line always be on top or make the chart transparent. I don't know how to do either and I don't know if it is possible in Visual Basic 2010 as it was in VB2.

This is a followup to this thread, where I'm trying to draw two sets of dots using HatchBrushes to create VS2010-like interface. If you take a look at the zoomed image of the IDE background (blue with dark and light blue dots): that is what I'm trying to draw using GDI+. In the previous thread ForumAccount find the correct HashStyle to use (Percent20), but there is a problem: I need to draw two sets of these hatchstyles: once with a slightly darker color and once with a slightly lighter color, at an offset of one pixel downwards.

i am currently trying to make an invaders-like game with visual basic 2010.I've managed to make one alien (picturebox16) dissapear when the coordinates of the arrow (picturebox1) kinda matches the coordinates of the 16th alien, however, the second alien(above it) doesnt dissapear(picturebox4)?
