View 4 RepliesI am required to make a game of concentration, whereby cards are shown for x amount of seconds and then truned over. The user then needs to remember where the cards were and pick two at a time in order to win points - whilst being timed.
Any pointers on where to start, or how to make a 2D control array of pictureboxes that can display the cards into a grid of (10x10) pictureboxes randomly?
In my class, we are designing a concentration game. The game will give you and output of numbers and you will have a specified time to memorize the numbers. Then, you will enter your guess to see if you were right or not. User will have the option to specify if they want a 3, 6, 12, or 24 digit number. Then they will be able to specify their own timer of 30 seconds, 15 seconds, 3 seconds, or 1 second. The options are done using radiobuttons.Groupbox 1 categorizes the number of digits long. Groupbox 2 is for the timer. So far, I have the whole game layed out except for the timer. Everything works.
View 11 RepliesThe project: As one of the projects for my Advanced Visual Basic course, I'm implementing a Concentration game very much like this project:(url)
The issue: I've got most of the logic working but I'm getting really weird behavior when I flip the cards. The first one flips fine. The second one is *supposed* to flip and hold for a second (I use a Thread.Threading.sleep(1000)) then flip back to covered if they're not a match.
For some reason, if they don't match it never flips the second card over so that you can see the picture underneath. It evaluates correctly but if the pics don't match, you never get to see the 2nd card.
Secondary issue (not as critical): At lines 67-79 there are some bits of code that are commented out. I'm trying to use a For Each loop to go through all my picture box controls and assign them to the array of structures and then assign the cover image without having to do it one at a time. It would save me about 250 lines of code and help me to still respect myself in the morning.
In addition to including my code, I will upload a copy of the entire project folder in case anyone wants to compile it and see the behavior for themselves.[code...]

i am currently trying to make an invaders-like game with visual basic 2010.I've managed to make one alien (picturebox16) dissapear when the coordinates of the arrow (picturebox1) kinda matches the coordinates of the 16th alien, however, the second alien(above it) doesnt dissapear(picturebox4)?

View 1 RepliesI want to make a game statistics calculator. For this I choose to make a XML database with the base stats of the characters.
I've made a small XML file in the VS2010 project with 1 class stats and made a list to 10 levels (to lazy atm to write all 85).
the XML looks like this:
<BASIC_CHARACTER_STATS>
<Levels>
<level id="1">1</level>
[Code]....
On the Form1.vb I've to combo boxes, 1 to display class names and 1 for levels.
Also have some Labels to display i.e. the base_STR number. But after trying random stuff to get it linked and closed VB to restart again because it was messed up too much
i know vb.net, but have had no experience at all with web programming. i need to make a web app that can run in a browser where there is a board game and pieces that you can move around. can someone help me get started? are there any examples in asp.net?
i need something like this:
[code].....
i don't know what language this is built in, but i would much prefer vb.net. i would like the pieces to be pictures instead of text.
I am using Vb 2010 I am trying to make a matching game. My problem is I have picture boxes 16 to be exact. I want each one to randomly go to a certain place I have already picked on the form. That means that I have 16 places already picked and I have made point variables for all 16. I can not seam to randomize the picture boxes to be placed in only those 16 locations.

Yup,not PHP but it's the same for readability)As you may imagine I want to make a simple text based rpg game, but that's not an important fact.The buttons btn1 to btn3 are already created at the designer, and there are going to be other procedures which will assign values to their text property according to the game context (main menu, combat, shopping, training, etc.) you're at.Ok, so what I want to do with that procedure I pasted is to parse the text of ANY of those buttons when I click them, and according to its value select a case which will trigger another appropriate procedure (now there are only msgboxes as placeholders for testing only).My problem is that I dont know how to refer to the originating class of the handled event! I mean, let's say I click btn2. I'll want to immediately get the text property of that button only and use it as the value for the select case tree. I suppose I need to put something at that ?I wrote there, but I don't have any idea. The first time I was so naive to put me.text in there, and of course it returned the form name. Is there's something to do this thing...? I thought at first it would be a very simple task, but I'm going nuts searching for a solution so it's like if it was not possible, but I find hard to believe that, because this would be very useful, right? By the way, what I want to achieve is not needing to make a separate procedure for each button and to avoid as well the need to move any game option to another procedure if later on I want to rearrange the menus, because I expect the game to have more than three buttons actually.
im trying to make a game in visual basic in which your character can move around, jump, and kill things. I can get the picture box with the character to move and everything is fine. but i did run into one problem. when the character moves over a tree (or something) you can see the gray backround of the character as i made in paint. how do i make the backround of the picturebox transparent?

how to organize the classes within my RPG project that I'm making. I've tried to implement a battle system but I am not comfortable with my initial results. This is the basic layout I currently have for my classes. [Code] clsCharacter contains statistics pertaining to one character, including magic available to that character to use. Also includes what weapons that character has equipped. clsTeam contains multiple clsCharacter, as well as a list of items that each clsCharacter in the team can use. clsBattle contains two clsTeams. One team is the player and the other is the computer. Now, this is a wonderful way to organize data. However, I see limitations with this approach. For instance, to pass data from Battle to Character, it has to pass through the team class and vice-versa. Plus, if I use Properties, it transfers data as ByVal instead of ByRef, so I cannot guarantee that I'm editing the original and not a copy of the passed object (IIRC)
In addition, I feel it is just messy code to include methods within the clsCharacter class that invoke this: MyTeam.MyBattle.DoAction(). Plus, the clsCharacter might not even be in the battle at the time - I don't won't to bog down that class featuring code that is exclusive for battling when I also need to be concerned about moving around the map, saving/loading data, etc. So, any suggestions? Right now, I'm burnt out of ideas. One idea I have so far is to include a function for the clsCharacter that exports a list of all possible moves the character could make, and if the character is CPU choose the most optimal one, and if Human than wrap it up in some nifty GUI so they can choose what action to take. But at the same time, how do I use that information within the context of the battle?
I'm doing a project for school. I'm trying to make a game similar to the Impossible game. I need a square (picturebox) to jump but I want gravity to effect it.

I understand the answer in the post above, which is absolutely amazing, by the way. It's about implementing interfaces with a class. However, what if a class needs to share features with another class?Yes, that class can an Interface. However, let's use this sample definition.
[code]...
Or, in other words:An equippable item can perform acts outside of its typical usage of a shield or weapon. But not all items can act as a sheid or weapon.I mean, I could create a class that implements IWeapon, IShield, IMagic, IUseableItem, etc. But there should be a better way than returning NULL when those interfaces are called.
I want to make a program that enables a game to have more than one instance running, where it would otherwise be unable to be done. How should I go about this? A sandbox? Hack?

Is there a way to make lines or boxes in design time?

View 6 RepliesI'm trying to make an application for beta testers in my design group so that they can easily send their reports back to the developers. Designing the user interface is not the problem.it's the coding. What I want to do is let the user select a radio button for the project they are testing, then fill in some text fields, select options, etc regarding the project tests, then when they are done, click "submit" and it will either send the data to a specific email address (internally coded, not input by the user) or send the data in a text file to a directory on my server. (whichever method works/is easier) I'm not the best programmer, so don't yell at me if I'm slow to understand anything, LOL.
View 3 RepliesCan we make the Combo Box not drop down if we click on it even though it have item in the list, button not click-able even though it have the on_click event..textbox not allow to set focus but not in disable mode...everything like design time.. because I want to do drag and drop control like visual studio.. but I can drag now, just when I want to click the control to drag, the control still remain the default function...
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to make a 2D game in VB. As a first step I'm going to make a playing field (a form) on which I will put a character. The character should be able to move up, down, left, and right when you press the arrow keys. How do I start off with this and what should I start off with learning?
I already know the basics in how to make normal apps with buttons, text boxes, labels and so on but I don't quite get how I should start off with something like this.Also I wonder about XNA and VB.Net. Can you use them together or is XNA only for C#? I found some stuff while googling suggesting that XNA for VB.Net had been released.
When my picHero enter a room where a picEnemy exists I should make the picEnemy follows picHero no matter how it moves up, down, right, left and as picHero is moving 5 px i want to make the picEnemy moves 4 px. I've tried to do use a condition as
Code:
if(picEnemy.location.X <> picHero.location.X) then
location = new point (picEnemy.location.X+4, picEnemy.location.Y)
picEnemy.location = location
endif
Also for the Y axis, but it didn't work.

I am making a simple blackjack game for school.It involves using object arrays and for next loops.I have 5 labels for the player, and 5 labels for the dealer. I have both their totals displayed on the form. I also have a deal, hit and stand button. I also need to follow the rules of if the dealer >= to 17 they must stand and if the dealer is < 17 they must hit. Does anybody have any suggestions on how i can code the dealers turn.I already made it so the player clicks hit and when he/she is done clicks stand. This is my stand button so far:
lblTotalDealer.Show()
lblD1.Show()
Dim itemarray2() As Label = {lblD1, lblD2, lblD3, lblD4, lblD5}
