Replacement For Random Access File In VS 2010?
Sep 3, 2010The application reads information similar to a DXF file. For purposes of discussion, the data consists of lines, those lines have endpoints, x1,y1,x2,y2. Within the file those lines create "paths", in other words, they are connected. There can be many separate paths within a single file. However in the original file, the geometry is not in any particular order, the paths are not indicated.

Except there are about 60 names.When the button is pressed, I want a name to be selected at random and placed into the text box.

1. Load up the .avi
2. Play the .avi and write down the numbers that are begin said.
3. Write them in a textbox / notepad

Apr 4, 2010The class Random is out right defective. It always produces the same random numbers in the same sequence. Things I have tried so far is every kind of seed you can think of as well as Randomize. The result is that I always get the same random numbers in exactly the same sequence.

Nov 26, 2011I am practicing using the drawing commands, and have gotten a grass background and black happy face that moves around the background.It's a 10x10 grid of 50 pixels.I want (at the moment, when i press enter) it to generate a random number of trees (15 ~ 25) at random locations on the background. The program doesn't freak out about anything, and the variables seem to be right (using stop commands) but it's not drawing anything. Here is the code for the "GenerateTrees" command I have for when I press enter.

Jan 15, 2012I need to have two pieces of software, made in vb where one encrypts the contents of a .txt file, and the other decrypts it, and then picks one word at random and displays it each time a button is pressed, but never displays the same word. Or, if there was a way to hard code it into the program as there is only 5 words that would be better.

Oct 19, 2011Years ago when coding with VB6 and earlier, I used a file open command to create, read, and write a file that made it easy to store useful information.I believe it was binary and you wrote/read the data to a specific line in the file. When you opened the file with something like notepad, it just showed random ascii chars. When I needed a line of data, I could specify what line to load it from.

Feb 28, 2012I have managed to learn a little of VB 2008 but I'm still struggling. I managed to convert one VB6 program to VB .net but all the file IO in it is sequential access.I'm trying to convert a VB6 program to .net. This program uses almost entirely random file IO.In one of the books I have, I found an example which, with a minor mod worked. I tried using that code to modify my program and it does not work. In my code, the FileGet results in the obj containing null strings. Yet in the sample program using the same structure, the obj contains actual data.The file is being opened because the record count is calculated correctly [iUpper = LOF(F_Trk) / TrkLen].
I used a Type in VB6 which I converted to a Structure in VB 2008. The function in which the problem occurs is below as well as the Structure declaration and the Function it calls (PAB) which is a derivation of the PathAddBackslash API call.Is there an easier, more efficient way to achieve the same results in VB .NET?[code].....[code]......

VS 2010 : Get A Random Number From 2 Numbers
May 8, 2012i need a simple way to get a random number from 2 numbers. This means that for example if my 2 numbers are 3 and 7, i don't need a random number between 3 and 7 that would be like 3,4,5,6,7 but only a random that is either 3 or 7. Meaning not all the numbers between x and y, but either x or y.

Oct 6, 2011I'm trying to figure out how to make a number be randomly picked but only picked once when a button is clicked. I've got the simple random number code down already but I can't seem to figure out how to have it picked only once.This is basic random code that I'm using right now.
Randomize()

It picks out a number from 1 to 14 and returns it as an integer in "value", and I'm using to set that to open a specific form but I don't want that specific form to open more than once in a session. So if the number three was already picked out then it could never be returned ever again.
VS 2010 Random AccessViolationException's Since Upgrading?
Mar 2, 2011We recently upgraded VS 2005 to VS2010 and converted an application seemingly without any problems. But when deployed to the customer they are getting intermittent errors at seemingly random places in the program which force the application to close and AccessViolationExceptions being logged to the Application Event Log.
The customer's site is a multi user environment with the application hosted on a server and users running the app via RDP. We get two errors in the event log:

VS 2010 Random Items From Listbox
Apr 20, 2012I am wondering how i would go about taking multiple items (randomly) from a listbox and displaying them in a label!Now this listbox wouldn't have to be visible, maybe i can do it without it even being a listbox?I want to have 25 labels and each one recalls a random value from the list (doesnt matter about being unique and the list will contain about 20-30 items)Im just a bit stumped on how to do it as ive done some looking into it but most people are asking for randomized numbers or unique items where as i need randomized items from a list which aren't unique!

Sep 21, 2011how to go about picking the random weapons. When you generate a random class, the user must first enter their current rank (level). This is because you are unable to use certain guns until you reach a specified level. This keeps the program from giving out guns the user can't use. What I am doing is allowing the user to give certain parameters as to what type of gun they want to use (or don't want to use). For example, I have checkboxes for the user to pick if they want assault rifles, SMGs, LMGs, Snipers, Shotguns, RPG, etc.
I did this in another version of this program I made, but the only option was to pick whether or not you wanted RPGs included. So, it was easy enough to check if the weapon was an RPG and if it was simply generate another random weapon. I could do this, but with the number of options there are, I don't think this would be the best solution.

VS 2010 - Random Sequence Generator For Names
Mar 1, 2012For a school project I need to create an application one element of that it puts 14 names into a random order, I figured the best way to do this was with an array and a for/next loop (it cannot repeat the names) each name would be declared as a string with the name of the variable being a number between 1,14. Then there would be a text box relating to each index of the array, I am sure you get what I mean. However, my for/next loop seems to be getting stuck and causing the application to halt and I cannot seem to work out why.
