Jan 24, 2012I have seen other discussions raising this topic however I'm far from confident with the results I'm getting. I wonder if someone can add some more insight into this topic.We want to dynamically load the correct contact details based on the visitor's state in Australia.We are using IP 2 Location and went out to test the database. I posted on Facebook a request for everyone in New South Wales to click a link on my post, I stored the result. I understand this is based on trust but the results are fairly unconvincing!

Feb 1, 2012In a WinForm application, if you want to get the IP address of the machine the code is running on (for instance, to log in the database what the IP address is when a user deletes a record), I would use this

While the code works, and it returns the correct IP address (for example: 140.139.138.137), Visual Studio doesn't like that code, and tells you that GetHostByName is obsolete, and needs to be replaced with GetHostEntry.
But if I do that, then I get back something that does not look like an IP address:
fe80::28ba:e091:1056:949f%11
So my question is, if I'm not supposed to use GetHostByName because it's been replaced by GetHostEntry, how come GetHostEntry doesn't give me the IP address?

Basically when I click add I want another form to open and the user to be able to add an email address and save it and if I click import I want the same form as the "Add contact" and enable the user to select a contact and add it to textbox1 on my main form.

May 22, 2011Lately I have been making a program (I guess you could call it a trainer), which would read the process memory to get the character's coordinates in a game. It later makes a simple map and show it in a separate windows. I built this program in VB.net, and it works surprisingly well. The only problem is the fact that the memory address where the coordinates are stored, changes every time I restart the game. Could someone please help me find a way, for the program to find the correct address by itself? If it helps, the game I am referring to is Minecraft.

VS 2010 Load IP Address Into Remote Desktop From File DB?

Can I include a database in an exe file? - I am trying to create a small launcher application which contain 10-20 IP addresses with name, addresses, phone and email for people I help out on a regular basis. I would prefer if I could have the DB containing this info included in my launcher app, so I could carry it around on a USB stick.
2. How do I get mstsc.exe (remote desktop) to launch with an IP address from my DB above?- In my small app I am trying to add a launch button for each person. So if I am helping "person1", then I click the button next to him, and it launches my remote desktop of PC Anywhere to his IP address....
My initial thought was to use an ini file with my exe file, and modify the ini file with data through the app, but I want to be sure that there is no way I can include this information in the exe file.As I want to be able to change the connection information through my app interface I reckon I am forced to use either a SQL DB or some sort of file DB right?

May 22, 2012So I'm working on an app that needs to create files on the end user's computer to store info in (mainly text files and HTML files), and I'm trying to figure out the best location to write these files to. I've been reading various articles @ this online all afternoon, and the advice I've read so far seems to be "all over the place".From what I understand, if the end user is not logged into Windows as "admin", then there are a limited number of locations where files can be written to their computer, without them having to deal with UAC popups, etc.I would like my end-user's to have to jump through as few hoops as possible (none, preferably ), so should I only write my files to these specific locations? when I write the files to the end-user's computer, I have 2 different types of info that needs to be stored...
Info "A" is temporary data that only needs to be stored/accessed while the end user has my program open (and this data can be safely deleted each time they close my program).Info "B" needs to be stored somewhere where it never gets deleted, so that it can be accessed by my program for as long as the end-user has my program installed on their computer.So would it be best to store info "A" in the Temp folder, and info "B" in the App Data folder?And for any files that I store in the "temp" folder, do these files get automatically deleted when the end-user turns off their computer, or do I have to programatically delete these files every time my program exits?
VS 2010 Bug With ClientSize And Location In Settings?
Dec 17, 2011Using either one by itself works fine but if I use both then it behaves strange.It will Maximize just fine but when I click the Maximize button again to take it back to the original size it resizes the window to the original but then immediately resizes it back to the smaller size location. So I end up with a window whose upper left corner is where it belongs but the window size is the same as if it was maximized.
