ASP.net User Location From IP Address?
Jan 24, 2012
I have seen other discussions raising this topic however I'm far from confident with the results I'm getting. I wonder if someone can add some more insight into this topic. We want to dynamically load the correct contact details based on the visitor's state in Australia. We are using IP 2 Location and went out to test the database. I posted on Facebook a request for everyone in New South Wales to click a link on my post, I stored the result. I understand this is based on trust but the results are fairly unconvincing!

Is there a 'simple' way to determine the current user's email address ? I want to automatically send an email when an application detects an unhandled exception, but would like it to come from the current user.I found this on the net and haven't yet worked out what its doing (although it seems to work). Unfortunately, as I'm not sure how it works, I also don't know what drawbacks there are to this technique.[code]...

I have am Explorer form and I want to be able to use a treeviewNode and all of its contents to create a windows folder structure. Each Treeviewnodes would be used to create a folder.
The problem I have is that I am using a SaveFileDialog Form to allow the user to specify where the Folder structure should be created and it only accepts a file as input or end point.
How can I get the SaveFileDialog form to accept a folder, e.g the desktop, without specifying a document in the folder?

I am trying to write a program where a user of my app can change the link location and label name.
At work we have testing scenarios that change at different locations, and instead of me sending updates every week, allow the user to update the link and label name by appending a file or db to pull the information?

I've just started using user settings. This works ok however I'm having problems with the location of user.config.
When I run the project in Studio, user.config seems to be stored in a different place than when I build the project.
In fact every time I build it the location seems to change - users therefore lose their settings every time the project is built, which seems pretty useless.
The GUID & Assembly names etc do not change.

the My.Settings data is saved in the AppDataLocal folder for a user based on company. Then, inside the company folder there will be a folder for any applications published by that company, which contain the user.config file for that program.
C:Documents and SettingsRobert BurkeLocal SettingsApplication DataSerysoftSysPad.exe_Url_qr40iotmbi1lvvl4b5lecnfpoqogr5uw
The thing is, the folder for each program has a string of random alphanumeric characters at the end. I noticed that on both my XP and Win7 machine, the string is the same. What I am wanting to do is save the user.config file, but the only way to do this, seemingly, would be to hardcode that folder into the path to get the user.config file from.
how that string is generated, and what may possibly cause it to change in other releases even though, so far, it has stayed the same for several of my releases. I don't want to release a version one day and the string change and then it break my program.

When a user installs the application from the ClickOnce location there is a noticeable delay after the install runs to when the program loads. Is there a way to put in a progress screen in this instance to instructed the user that there is still more to come?
There is also another instance when an email is being priocessed, there is a delay between the button click and when the email box displays. Need some sort of motion happening during that time. How is this done and what do I look for? Can I make a module that handles this and then just call it during certain activities?

I am just not happy with the fact that the user.config file gtets saved in the user's account folder. Is there a way to save it in the Application's Startup Folder instead? I couldn't find any configuration properties within the PROJECT PROPERTIES which would let me change the file location.

I am trying to copy an entire folder and all of its contents that is in the same location as my program that is running to a user selected location. I started off by using a SaveFileDialog, but now I am working with a FolderBrowserDialog. Here is some code:
Private Sub BackupButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles BackupButton.Click
Dim sourcePath As String
[Code]....
But when I run the program, it works, but it does not copy the entire folder in the application startup location.. how I can copy that folder that is in the same location as my program to a user selected location?

My freeware program launches 50 freeware programs and provides a guide for PC maintenance and health. As mentioned in another post, my program was reviewed on Sofpedia. One thing the Reviewer criticized was the fact that my program requires the user to install these 50 programs in the default locations (usually C:Program Filesx). The reviewer thinks it would be best if the user can install to any location he/she desires and my program be able to point to the proper location when launching the application.

I know, it's a bit weird asking for a query to tell me my own email address right, I'll explain further...
I'm writing a COM add-in for Outlook 2007. One of the subs generates and sends an email to a particular address and this all works fine. However I have a need to have an option for the sender to be able to include themselves on the recipients list.As more than one person will be running this I cannot just set the sender's email address manually and would prefer to just add a check box on the form to enable this feature.
The only bit I'm stuck on is working out how to find the email address of the person sending the email. I could do it with an AD query against the logged on user but this needs to work for non-domain users also so need another method.

I currently have a program that allows users to download files into a folder of there choice. I currently have 10 different forms all with a text box to show folder location and a browse button for user to find it, but what I want to do is create a form that will appear at the start where the end user can enter the folder location so that they don't have to enter the folder path for every download they want to do. How would I go about doing this I have a textbox, browse button and an OK button but have no idea what to do next.
