Jun 22, 2010I want to get the user's approximate location (down to like a 1km radius) by their IP. Is this possible in VB Express 2008?

(yes i am creating a game for my small nephew.. pictures and alphabet) now, i want to show different pieces of images into picture box. like the A box, b Box etc one option is to cut the chart into pieces, save each piece with different filename and load individual filename into picturebox.but i saw somewhere that we can use pixel location to load images into picturebox..as i recall it required two pixel location, 1 was upper left and other was lower right.. and passing that pixel locations would load the rectangular image between those pixel locations into picturebox?

ASP.net User Location From IP Address?

I wonder if someone can add some more insight into this topic.We want to dynamically load the correct contact details based on the visitor's state in Australia.We are using IP 2 Location and went out to test the database. I posted on Facebook a request for everyone in New South Wales to click a link on my post, I stored the result. I understand this is based on trust but the results are fairly unconvincing!

Create A Folder At User Specified Location?
Jun 24, 2009I have am Explorer form and I want to be able to use a treeviewNode and all of its contents to create a windows folder structure.Each Treeviewnodes would be used to create a folder.
The problem I have is that I am using a SaveFileDialog Form to allow the user to specify where the Folder structure should be created and it only accepts a file as input or end point.
How can I get the SaveFileDialog form to accept a folder, e.g the desktop, without specifying a document in the folder?

User.config Location Keeps Moving?
Nov 25, 2009I've just started using user settings. This works ok however I'm having problems with the location of user.config.
When I run the project in Studio, user.config seems to be stored in a different place than when I build the project.
In fact every time I build it the location seems to change - users therefore lose their settings every time the project is built, which seems pretty useless.
The GUID & Assembly names etc do not change.

The thing is, the folder for each program has a string of random alphanumeric characters at the end. I noticed that on both my XP and Win7 machine, the string is the same. What I am wanting to do is save the user.config file, but the only way to do this, seemingly, would be to hardcode that folder into the path to get the user.config file from.
how that string is generated, and what may possibly cause it to change in other releases even though, so far, it has stayed the same for several of my releases. I don't want to release a version one day and the string change and then it break my program.

Jul 20, 2011When a user installs the application from the ClickOnce location there is a noticeable delay after the install runs to when the program loads. Is there a way to put in a progress screen in this instance to instructed the user that there is still more to come?
There is also another instance when an email is being priocessed, there is a delay between the button click and when the email box displays. Need some sort of motion happening during that time.How is this done and what do I look for? Can I make a module that handles this and then just call it during certain activities?

May 18, 2009I am just not happy with the fact that the user.config file gtets saved in the user's account folder. Is there a way to save it in the Application's Startup Folder instead? I couldn't find any configuration properties within the PROJECT PROPERTIES which would let me change the file location.

One thing the Reviewer criticized was the fact that my program requires the user to install these 50 programs in the default locations (usually C:Program Filesx). The reviewer thinks it would be best if the user can install to any location he/she desires and my program be able to point to the proper location when launching the application.

Jun 22, 2011how to view and populate a listview with a text file. Now I come seeking wisdom on how do create an effect based upon the location where a mousedown event occured.
Here is my example. (I like to give simple examples because it helps me learn rather than be given the answer and learn nothing).
I am working in vb.net, in a windows form. I have a map of Western Europe called picturebox1.
I want another form to pop up when a user clicks on a section of picturebox1. For example: I want a "Germany" form to pop up when the user clicks on Germany. And such for if France, Spain, Italy, Austria, England, Scotland, etc...based on the location of the mousedown event.
Historically, when working with a picturebox with sections that were rectangle, I would do little screenshots and overlay them over the picturebox and use that as a cheat.
The challenge here is that the countries are polygons and now I need to learn this for real. I am looking for a little direction on where to go to learn about a mousedown event that causes an effect based upon the location of the mousedown event.
This can be a challenge because each country is of different x, y location coordinates so I image I need to create an elaborate if or case statement to capture and evalute. However, I don't know how to acquire the coordinates of a mousedown.

I currently have 10 different forms all with a text box to show folder location and a browse button for user to find it, but what I want to do is create a form that will appear at the start where the end user can enter the folder location so that they don't have to enter the folder path for every download they want to do. How would I go about doing this I have a textbox, browse button and an OK button but have no idea what to do next.

If/then Based User And Password Authentication?
Apr 17, 2009I am writing a program that accepts a user name and password (the password must show up as *s). The user gets three tries to enter the correct information before the program is closed. So far I have the password showing up as the password in clear text the first time and in *s the next two times. The authentication also fails even when I use the correct user name and password which are password and user for now.

I want to compare 6 values entered by user to those 6 integer columns and if in any row 3 or more columns match user's input Primary key of that table is returned..I have tried using queries, cursor, nested loops and i am still unable to achieve my results..
