I am working on a windows service. I need to transfer files over network using TCP/IP. Now the problem is I have only network username to connect. Is there any way I can find the ip address of a user using its network username.
I have seen other discussions raising this topic however I'm far from confident with the results I'm getting. I wonder if someone can add some more insight into this topic. We want to dynamically load the correct contact details based on the visitor's state in Australia. We are using IP 2 Location and went out to test the database. I posted on Facebook a request for everyone in New South Wales to click a link on my post, I stored the result. I understand this is based on trust but the results are fairly unconvincing!
Is there a 'simple' way to determine the current user's email address ? I want to automatically send an email when an application detects an unhandled exception, but would like it to come from the current user.I found this on the net and haven't yet worked out what its doing (although it seems to work). Unfortunately, as I'm not sure how it works, I also don't know what drawbacks there are to this technique.[code]...

I'm writing a COM add-in for Outlook 2007. One of the subs generates and sends an email to a particular address and this all works fine. However I have a need to have an option for the sender to be able to include themselves on the recipients list.As more than one person will be running this I cannot just set the sender's email address manually and would prefer to just add a check box on the form to enable this feature.
The only bit I'm stuck on is working out how to find the email address of the person sending the email. I could do it with an AD query against the logged on user but this needs to work for non-domain users also so need another method.
Are there any IP Address filters or masks available in Windows Forms as per following screenshot? A backslash shouldn't be allowed or it should be filtered somehow.

I'm trying to use the DHCP API (using the references on pinvoke.net) to retrieve a computer's MAC address when given the IP address but I can't get the code to work. I've run all the C# code on pinvoke.net through the C#-to-VB converter but I'm stuck now.
Here's what I have so far. The value of res is always 5 (should be 0). Thing is, I can't find any documentation on what the return codes mean
vb Private Sub GetMACDim client As String = "1.1.1.1" Dim server As String = "0.0.0.0" Dim si As New NativeMethods.DHCP_SEARCH_INFO si.SearchType = NativeMethods.DHCP_SEARCH_INFO_TYPE.DhcpClientIpAddress si.ClientIpAddress = Convert.ToUInt32(StringIPAddressToUint32(client)) Dim res As UInteger Dim oInfo As IntPtr
I have to make a basic program that: Create a program with a simple interface that
1. Asks the user type his/her email address into a textbox.
2. When the user clicks the "Evaluate Email Address" button, one of two message boxes pops up: "That is a valid email address!" with an "Information" icon, or "That is an invalid email address!" and on a second line, "Please retype your email address.", with an "Exclamation" icon
3. To be considered valid, the email address must -include an "@" symbol, and -it must end in either ".com", ".net", or ".org" or ".edu" (I don't know how to check a string and test if its last four characters end with any of these and make it say not valid email address. I think I might have to use a case statement)

I want to run a FTP url in explorer. (Not in IE) What i want is some how when the button clicked the URL should appear in the address bar of the windows explorer.
This is because the ftp I access should be accessed in that way (By typing the url in the address bar of..lets say ..mycomputer window.)
I don't knw whether both do the same thing. But when I do I manually I could access the FTP by typing the URL in address bar in mycomputer(I think it is windows explorer) but not by typing it in the address bar of IE.
way to put an address in the address bar in windows explorer
I am wanting to get the users IP address (the logged in user will be running the application under there user context on there local PC), but many PC's in our environment have multiple NIC's that have been added by VMWare Workstation, I would like to exclude these type of bridged connections and only show the "primary" NIC on the PC.The following function will get the IPv4 address, however on my test PC it is returning the bridged connection and not the IP Address of the network facing NIC.
Shared Function GetIP(ByVal computerName As String) As String 'Dim ipEntry As IPHostEntry = Dns.GetHostEntry(computerName) 'Dim tmpAddr As IPAddress() = ipEntry.AddressList
[code]....
My users have a mixture of DHCP and static addresses so cannot limit the NIC to either of these connection types. We tend to have a 172.16.x.x IP range, so is there a way to modify the above function so that it will only return a 172.16.x.x address?
