Is there a way I could block connections to an IP address (Incomming and Outgoing) in visual basic 2008? I have a different method, using the windows hosts file. I could make it redirect, but on the host file, could I make it launch a certain application when it blocks an IP. Like, launch a file called blocked.html that says "Webpage blocked" on it? and if u get this far, how can I see when an app attempts to connect to the internet. Like on bit defender firewall, say aim6.exe trys to connect to a server, how could i warn the user of this???? (Maybe using winsock)
Background Hi here is my problem. Im a system admin and we have just completed a scheme of giving new pc's to disadvantaged children throughout our town. Now we have over 200 machines gone out but they have not been configured with a static IP address so they can access the Internet. what i want to do is create a program in VB.net to send a bispoke version out to each house to change the machines IP address, Subnet, Default gateway and Proxy server + port [URL]but i wont have 200 of these keys so thats not really and option unless they are generic as all of the machines have the same network card.

I have a module that will ping a machine given a hostname or an ip address. Is there an eaiser way to ping a machine using vb .net? I know you can use wsh to open a shell and execute the ping command from a command prompt window then use the ReadAll to get the information ping sends back and from there you can determine if the ping was sucessful or not. How would I do this in VB .Net or is there a better way to ping machines in .net?
I am currently working on a project that, among other things, should allow the user of the form to click a button and be taken to the change password window for that particular user. The is Start>Control Panel>Users> select a user> Change password. I am trying to save the user alot of time by just taking them to the approite window. It would be nice if the password was automatically changed.I know that the System. should contain the right code touse but I am having trouble finding the right path. I did find a code to shut down [code]System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("shutdown", "-l -t 00")[\code]
How could i make it so the user can change the background on a form like he/she can choice from a list of backgrounds or add there own image as a background? also how could i make it so a button or a drop down button launches a form in the project itself?

I've run into an issue with Access Key in either Visual Basic or C#... also happens whether on my windows 7 64 but laptop or my Windows Vista 32 bit laptop - in Visual Studio 2010 professional... I create an Access Key (for example E&xit)... while the underline under the x shows up in the development area, it does NOT show up when I run the application NOR does it work... for example, press alt-x does not run the code associated with the exit (nor does a break into that code show it gets into that code). When I try it in a menu, it is a little different at first the underline under the access key does not show up but then after I access something by hand, it sometimes shows up and is usable.

How do you cache user session in a windows forms application? So that the user session expires when inactive for a certain period of time. I wish to include that functionality using an integrated security and caching application block from microsoft's patterns and practices.

I have a program that I am creating in a windows form to track information about computers that I build for each project I do. The way I have my form layout is two buttons on the top of the form(1 for adding a computer and the 2nd to remove a computer) I then have a Tab window where when I want to add a computer I use the "Add button" click event to create a new tab and add a user control "Computer" that I created that contains all of the default fields that I desire (i.e. serial numbers os type, product key etc.) The "Computer" user control also contains two buttons (1 for adding a PC Card and the 2nd to remove a PC Card) The PC Card is another user control that I have created that has all of the desired fields I require for PC Cards. I am able to add new computers with no problem and name the tab
Dim b As New Computer Dim x As String = Me.TabEquip.TabCount - 2 Dim tab As New TabPage("Computer" + x)
I'm developing a windows forms application using VB.NET. I'm currently working on DataReport (by Microsoft, not Crystal). Everything works fine when using DataSet as DataSource. But I have a question on how am I going to put data to my DataReport from a user input? Preferably when the user is on the act of printing(clicking the print button in the ReportViewer), a Form will pop-up and ask him for input. That input I'm talking about is random names of people, and we don't have to track their names so there's no reason to put it on the database.
I've been developing in .NET (VB, C++, C#) for a number of years, but I am finally creating my first service application (in VB). I need to read/write to a file contained within a user's documents. As a service is not associated with a particular user, would a service have access to a user's documents? ...regardless if that user is signed on or not?
