Access Key In Standard Windows Forms

I've run into an issue with Access Key in either Visual Basic or C#... also happens whether on my windows 7 64 but laptop or my Windows Vista 32 bit laptop - in Visual Studio 2010 professional... I create an Access Key (for example E&xit)... while the underline under the x shows up in the development area, it does NOT show up when I run the application NOR does it work... for example, press alt-x does not run the code associated with the exit (nor does a break into that code show it gets into that code).When I try it in a menu, it is a little different at first the underline under the access key does not show up but then after I access something by hand, it sometimes shows up and is usable.

I noticed that adding a MenuStrip (from the Toolbox) to my form design doesn't yield a menu bar like many native Windows applications. Instead I get a menu bar like Visual Studio's own. None of the style settings for MenuStrip appear to mimic the much more common native menu bar.Is there a way to add a menu bar to my Windows Forms application that looks the same as the one you see in Notepad, Task Manager and others? (Preferably with the designer, but I wouldn't mind adding it programmatically either.)

What is the standard font to use on forms? The default font in vb.net is "Microsoft Sans Serif" size - 8.5, but it looks small, and users complaining on too small font. When changing to size - 9 or bigger it looks not proffesional. Also, I have tryed other fonts and they don't look standard.

I only managed make the form always on top. But what I want is when the form is on top, user cannot access the other application in the windows.
For example : Some messagebox won't let users access the other application until the users hit the OK button.

I have some friends who are 'old-school' VB6 database developers and I was telling them about .NET and its features, specifically ADO.NET. In our conversation, they brought up the following reasons why they would rather stick with ADO than move to ADO.NET: The Dataset is disconnected (What if power fails?)
The same amount of code still has to be written The new options of Dataset, BindingSource and TableAdapter seem confusing the same code is written programatically access the Database, all that changes is how that command is laid out. Why ADO.NET is 'better' than ADO with regards to data access when it comes to Windows Forms applications. What does ADO.NET provide that ADO does not? What does it do better than ADO? I'd like examples that do not involve LINQ.

In VS.Net 2008, if you choose a new form with the Explorer template, the form is preloaded with a menu strip, and all the items have the familar save, print, open, etc, icons/bitmaps. I would like to use these icons in other forms, but the form does not appear to reveal the location of these icons or where they came from. Does anyone know where they are? If I find them and point to them, can I be assured that these icons are in the same place on any computer (or do I need to embed them in the exe)?

I don't know if I have gone blind, or if I am just searching in the wrong place, but what is the cursor that Windows uses for standard dragging, and where is it found? I can see the icon that is used when something is dragged over a control that is not a drop target, but not the control that is used for dragging elsewhere.

I am using VB 2008 & Access 2007 for windows forms application having typed datasets while creating connection to DB vb asks to store connection string so i did it now that i want to know where is the actual path of file where these connection strings are stored. b'cas after runnig a macro in Access Database i lost all these connections from Data Source Configuration Wizard Combo Box & also i am anable to create a new connection to Databases.I have tried to reinstall the entire Visual Studio couple of times .

I'm new but will most certainly be hanging around and maybe even answer some posts in other sections. I have the following issue: I have a vb.net web page that places data into an access database. If I leave one of the fieldS blank, (even though Access has a default value of '0' instead of null) when I click to view the results in another page, the page fails with an error.
"System.InvalidOperationException: The provider could not determine the String value. For example, the row was just created, the default for the String column was not available, and the consumer had not yet set a new String value. etc etc" IF I put any figure in the blank field, even if it's 0, the page functions and works. Baffling. So, the data input page really needs to check, 'if nothing has been entered, automatically append the database with 0. I have just purchased VS2008 SE to run on my PC with VS2005 SE. I have been developing a WM6 application using the VS2008 PE trial, the trial period has now ended, hence the purchase of VS2008 SE (full not upgrade). As a private user for hobby purposes I can not afford VS2008 PE. I am astonished to learn that in actual fact VS2008 SE is a step back from VS2005 SE in that the WM6 SDK's on not supported. I have read the below thread: url...I am also annoyed that on the WM6 SDK refresh download page it states clearly that VS2005 SE or higher must be used - hence the purchase of VS 2008 SE.As I have installed on my PC a full version of VS2005 SE and VS2008 SE, is there a way to develop WM6 devices with the tools I have or is VS2008 PE the only solution.

My app (which runs ok as a standard user) requires updates to be installed, but I don't want to have to input the administrator username/password each time nor do I want to increase user privileges to administrator.
I have a windows service which handles the downloading of updates etc (running as Local System) but the start command needs to come from the main app (running as a standard user). This is not permitted and I get Access Denied.
I understand why this is happening but is there an alternative way to achieve this? I want to handle program updates as the standard user without using ClickOnce or installing to a non Program Files folder.

When I select a standard windows form at design time, then in the toolbox, under the "general" section, there are ellipse, line, and rectangle, but they are all gray and so can't be used and I can't find any way to make them not gray and thus usable. What am I missing? The help system tells how to USE them but nothing about how to make them accessible, it just assumes they are.
I have no problem drawing a line on a form at run-time but I want to drop one on at design time and can't find any way that's my real problem.I'm not a heavy user of VB.NET so I figure there's probably something simple that I'm overlooking.

I have a app that is starting up a thread that runs the standard windows defrag utility. It also gives the user the option to cancel the defrag if they want to. Problem is if the thread defrag is running on is canceled is there any data loss or does it just do the last operation and then exit. For example the code goes something like this:

Code works exactly as it should, runs the defrag on a separate thread so my UI remains responsive. I'm just worried about the effect of the cancel on it, when you call a thread abort does the program running in the thread know it's being canceled and "cleanly" close? I don't want to abort a file move operation when it's defraging and end up with a corrupt file.

I usually use standard button and do the settings like causevalidation etc if required.
i decided to use toolstrip and inserted some buttons but end up that it doesn't do the validation for control and also doesn't call leave event of textbox control.
so my question is, anyway to use regular button functionality for toolstripbutton or there is a way to add regular button on toolstrip.

how to proceed. One of our customers is going to be sending me a flat file (ASCII-Text) that I have to break down and scan. Every line ends in a CrLf - So I know I can use StreamReader and ReadLine(). I did get it to work on one of the test files they sent.(A very Short file) However, the file is not delimited at all and every field is padded to the full length they specified. I am trying to add a TabPage containing a UserControl to a TabControl at runtime, because the number of TabPages to add are determined at runtime.
The UserControl (objDataInfo) is just two Textboxes, two labels and two Radiobuttons, nothing too exciting...
The TextBoxes have their Anchor properties set to Left, Up, Right so they scale with the width of the usercontrol.
The TabPages are added in the constructor of the form, which takes the number of tabpages to create (n) as an argument:

My boss gave me an MS Access application that was developed by our former colleague. He wants me to convert that application to VB.Net Windows form application. I went through the MS Access Application. It contains tables, queries, forms, reports and macros. I could not find the programming (Where is the code written in MS Access?). My boss wants the windows application to be same as the MS Access Application (both in design and logic). I don't how will i develop the windows form. How can I achieve this?
