Oct 5, 2011I've got a Windows Forms with some Textbox's and I'm trying to make a one of them which can automaticly (or if you press Enter) change letter D to today's date, to make user life easier.

Auto Complete In ComboBox Windows Forms?
May 19, 2012I have auto complete functionality in combo box ,it works properly but there is little issue ,I made the suggestion list appear for the text length more than 3 chars ,but the list appears after the length of 4 char (when user enters the fifth char of the text) which means when the code executed in the first time the list doesn't appear here is the code in Text_Changed Event

Forms :: Textbox That Is Filled Using Auto-complete?
Apr 2, 2009I have a textbox that is filled using autocomplete. The autocomplete is a globally accessible sub that I use for textboxes and (I guess) comboboxes.My problem is that the autocomplete sub takes several seconds to fill the textbox. Is there some way my code could be improved? (The code below takes three seconds to fill for 288 autocomplete entries, which I don't think should be a lot for this kind of functionality.)
My best bet is that the autosorcecollection has to redraw itself every time an entry is added, and that causes the delay, but I'm not sure.Apart from taking time I think this global function is really handy, so feel free to use!

Forms :: Can't Change Textbox Text From An Event
Jan 28, 2010I got a Sub which processes a code, and then it does whatever the code said. Example.
Code = "Black" -> Turns screen black.
Code = "OFF" -> Turns off the PC.
And so on.
If I call that Sub from Immediate console, It works perfectly. But if that Sub is called from an event, It does nothing, and usually throws an Exception. I read somewhere that I can fix this by using Threads, but I don't understand how that can help and make it work.

Jun 9, 2011I can't seem to get input focus on a textbox when a tab page first comes up (I'm using Windows Forms, VB.NET 3.5). I have a textbox on a panel on a tab page, and I want the focus to be on the textbox when the tab page comes up. I want the user to be able to start typing immediately in the focused textbox without having to click on the textbox. I have tab stops set in the order I want and the textbox is the first tab stop. The tab stops work except that when the tab page comes up the focus is not on the textbox, i.e. the one that's first in the tab order.
In the Enter event handler of the tab page I call the Focus method of the text box, but it returns False and does nothing, no error messages. I know I can access the text box because at the same point in the code I can set the text of the text box.If it matters, the layout of the tab page is a little complicated:[URL]..I want to set the focus on TextBox1.
What's the best way to get the focus on the desired textbox? If setting focus is the best way, why is the textbox.Focus() method failing?

Jul 19, 2010I have a VB.NET Windows Forms app with a logo image on the form as a System.Drawing.Bitmap inside a PictureBox.I used the Visual Studio Designer to add the logo .bmp image so I don't currently have any VB code doing anything with it.I'd like to make the current logo a clickable object/button so when I click on it a file browser dialog opens and I can select a new image to replace the current image.The current image is a local resource and is set in a PictureBox as a System.Drawing.Bitmap.How would I replace that System.Drawing.Bitmap with a file selected from the file browser dialog?

Jul 2, 2010When I develop a Windows Forms app in Visual Studio using C#, every control that I add to my form is by default marked as private, which is what I want.
When using VB.NET, every control is by default marked as Friend (the equivalent of internal in C#), which is not what I want.
Can I just change this default? It seems like surely it's a setting somewhere.

Feb 11, 2009I'm trying to count characters in a textbox, which includes newline characters and tabs. How do we know if the textbox contains only newline characters? ie or if the user types in one or more characters, then a bunch of "newline" characters (CR followed by LF) and then goes back and deletes the original one or more characters leaving only the leading "newline" characters. I don't want to count the characters in textbox only if new line exists..
