User Control Embedding A File Into Control?
Apr 27, 2010I have a user control in the toolbox and can now put it on a form in a project.However, I play a .wav file in the control and it is referred to in code by the filepath and name.But I want to "embed" it in the control so that it isn't dependent on the path.As far as I know, I embedded the resource, but I don't know how to refer to it to get it to play with My. Computer. Audio.Play.

Nov 24, 2010I have a program that I am creating in a windows form to track information about computers that I build for each project I do. The way I have my form layout is two buttons on the top of the form(1 for adding a computer and the 2nd to remove a computer) I then have a Tab window where when I want to add a computer I use the "Add button" click event to create a new tab and add a user control "Computer" that I created that contains all of the default fields that I desire (i.e. serial numbers os type, product key etc.) The "Computer" user control also contains two buttons (1 for adding a PC Card and the 2nd to remove a PC Card) The PC Card is another user control that I have created that has all of the desired fields I require for PC Cards. I am able to add new computers with no problem and name the tab

Feb 11, 2011I am creating a form for work where managers can report when they find a customer's personal information laying around on a desk (we work at a call center where agents answer calls for a wireless cell phone provider, so we take personal information security very seriously). Anyway, I am wondering if there is a way to have a text box autofill with that manager's windows username (since they will need to be logged into their own profile to use the form).

Windows Forms - Data From User Input To DataReport?
Jul 22, 2011I'm developing a windows forms application using VB.NET. I'm currently working on DataReport (by Microsoft, not Crystal). Everything works fine when using DataSet as DataSource. But I have a question on how am I going to put data to my DataReport from a user input? Preferably when the user is on the act of printing(clicking the print button in the ReportViewer), a Form will pop-up and ask him for input. That input I'm talking about is random names of people, and we don't have to track their names so there's no reason to put it on the database.
Here's my simple setup:
MainForm.vb (Form)
MyReportViewer (ReportViewer)
MyReport.rdlc (DataReport)

If it is impossible to do it on the act of printing. Maybe on the MainForm_Load event or before the generation of report can do.

Add Custom User Control To Windows Form?
May 17, 2010I created a custom user control named "XYZ" and It is avaialble at the toolbox menu in the design mode and I can drag and drop it to a vb.net Windows form. What I really want is to dynamically to add this user control to the Windows form during the Windows form load event. Actually I want to add this user control to a "split container" named "sc_1" on the tab page named "tp_1" on a tab control named "tc_1" on a Windows form. What is teh vb code to add a user control to a Windows form. I am using vs 2005 and dotnetwork v2.0.

Having turned off UAC, works our application error-free. Due to the corporate policy we cannot turn off UAC but we are looking for a solution, how to turn off UAC (not prompts) only for our application or how to het to work an application based on VB with turned.

Feb 6, 2012I need a nudge in the right direction. I have a user control that has the main form and it calls a secondary form to gather some additional information in some cases. I need to pass the information back from the secondary form to the primary user control form so I can validate the data and save. In the secondary form, I have the following code:

I have tried creating two public properties on the user control and setting them, I have created two properties in the user control form called OperationComments and OperationDate. I can set both of them, but when I close or hide the form and go back to the main user control form, the values for these properties or variables are not set. How do you set the values on the main form from a calling form within a user control?

Custom Grid Control Using GDI + For Windows Forms?
Nov 4, 2009I have to design a custom "log grid" control to use in another of my projects.Up front, I am new to vb.net 2008. I have used VB6 for years and I am trying to learn how to resove the differences as I go. But I need help.
This log grid contains 96 columns and 4 rows.I tried using the TableLayoutPanel and a Panel per cell but found the control to slow to paint. That's 384 discreet controls.I am now trying a usercontrol with a panel and GDI+ to create the grid. I've created a collection for the columns and a collection for the rows. So far so good. My mouse clicks raise the correct events per cell.
I now need to indicate which column the mouse is over. This is the problem. The column must be highlighted by a vertical bar from the top of the column to the bottom. It must also be transparent. I need to see the gridlines under the highlight. I've tried using region using the following code. (myRegion is declared Private MyRegion as Region at module level for persistance)

Displaying Windows Form As A Child Of User Control?
May 30, 2009I have a User control having two panels. one at the top border and second at the bottom border of the control.
The panels contain some buttons on the click of which i want to display some forms. But I want thoes forms to act like children of the user control i.e. like MDi Parent - Child (here parent being User control and child being the new forms which would be opening). Unfortunately i've not been able to find any way of do'in so.
Calling Methods In Forms From Embedded User Control Class?

To start with, what I need to do is get the button values from the control into a text box on the first form. But I don't want to have a method calling the textbox directly from within the control, because then it won't be reusable in my other forms. Is there something I can do in VB like parentform.textbox.append for example, where you can generically call the methods of the form in which the control appears?
