I am trying to write a string to last line of the text file by using timer 1 second interval. I tried use StreamWriter and Writeline but it looks like always write on the first line. Or I have to open the streamwriter when the form load and keep it opening?
View 4 RepliesI am working on a program using VB.Net 2010 which will enable me to setup groups of files & folders for back up with syncing capabilities etc. I have a concept program which is based on some sample code I found out in one of the VB.Net forums. I have modified it from a command line based program to a form based program. At the moment I consider this code to be a "concept" program which once I have the various copy/sync routines developed and debugged will be integrated in to another program I wrote for
creating "Back Up" groups to automate the process. There are some 3rd party programs that do similar things that I want to do such as Microsofts Sync Toy, but none of them offer the grouping and exclusions options that I am going to program in to this backup/sync program.
So here is my problem, I have the included code taking two folders, a source and a destination, and copying everything from the source to the destination. It will skip over any unchanged files/folders and will delete anything found in the destination folder that is not found in the source folder and it will update all files in the destination folder that have a newer version in the source folder. In other words it will mirror image the source to the destination but will be smart enough not to copy unchanged items from the source to the destination thereby saving a lot of time. The sync part of the program is working fine, the displaying of the progress and results is not.

have a tab delimited text file, which I'm reading into a datatable and showing in a grid.I see that I can't update the text file with any changes made to the data, using an UPDATE command. So how would I go about doing this?I could write out the datatable to a new text file, this is not a problem. But I'm only retrieving X records from the text file, so the datatable won't hold the entire text file.

i am trying to do a text file to save some configurations. Basically when the application starts it will check if the text file is exist, if not it will create a new text file. Now i'm having a problem is when i try to append the newly created/exist text file, sometimes i need to press the 'save' button many times to update the text file.

Actually my text file is a dump file and i need to make a program to process this dump file. I may ask some stupid questions but this is just a beginning, i want to parse INDIVIDUAL text file line by line. I'm trying to insert a couple of fields into a csv config file and then update all other rows in the file at the same index by copying the previous 2 entries. I'm reading through each row and converting the row into a list(of String) because it seems to be the most flexible way. Ine initial insert works fine, but the code below doesn't. pcIndex is the list index value from elsewhere in the code at the insertion of the 1st of a pair of values into one row. I need to update that index point and pcIndex +1 in all other rows. However it's not doing anything. Tried using lstSteps.Insert, InsertRange, etc. Am I using this right? Is there a better way? It seems to be over-writing the entry rather than inserting a new column and moving the others up, so it appears the list capacity value isn't updating - so I'm left with the initial row with 4 more entries than the others sticking out of the file.

So that when the check box is true, columns 1 and 3 turn different colours, and when false, go to a yellow colour.However, when I "re-insert" my DGV info from my text file, the check boxes come back correctly - as true and false on the right rows - but columns 1 and 3 don't change colour. I've tried a "DataGridView1.Refresh" option but not getting it to work.The DGV is unbound. I need it to recognise which check boxes are true and update automatically when the information is opened from a text file.

I already know how to do the trial part of this program and I know that this is not secure as someone could just hack it and find the text file and read the numbers, however this is for school and is not commercial. My problem(s) are that the arrays are getting an extra value ;eg length = 3 instead of 2 (which is specified in the text files), so I end up with a 3rd value "Nothing". This is bad because someone could login without a user/password.My other problem is that the arrays error in the msgbox. Using ToString() results in "System.String[]". How can I fix this?
