VS 2010 Lost Toolbar In IDE
Aug 18, 2011
I must be loosing my mind! I came back to working on a small project after not being able to work on it for some time and now the IDE layout is totally different. For instance, there used to be a toolbar that showed a run button, step into, step over and such but now its not there, and, for the life of me I can't find it! I went to reseting the layout options to default, VB and so forth but cannot find it. In addition, when I hit F5 nothing happens. I can't figure out how to run my project from the IDE. Have I lost my mind or what?

How do I mimic (in a windows application project) the toolbar on the left side of the MS Visual Basic 2010 IDE? I've tried all the container and menu options as provided on the IDE. I assume that it may be a combination of the IDE options and component properties, but have not been able to find the correct combination(s).

I am using VB.Net (.Net 4) and Outlook 2007 (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook) to send mass emails to clients on a monthly basis and the text is pre-defined into a HTML file which is parsed.Since there are chances of errors, we are putting it as outlook templates. But we need to put some special tags in the body, for which I want to put a button in the main ribbon of the "MailItem" object (see attached image).I have managed to put the buttons in the "add-ins" menu but I want it right there in the front area.

I have set up a form that will act as my parent (this hasnt been set up as an MDI).On this form I have a Panel that I will be loading forms into. I have a form that contains a DGV. On the load of the parent form, I then load this "child" form into the Panel. In the onLoad event of the "child" I go off to the database and populate my DGV. Then I run through the rows in the DGV and add in a logo image in the first column and change some cell colors based on values in those cells.
This all works great, however, when the child form finishes loading all the changes are lost. eg The logo images go back to the red cross and the cell coloring is gone.If I call Me.Refresh() in the child window as the last line in its Form_load event I can see the logo and cell colors update to what I want, but as soon as it has updated, its like it immediately refreshes again and all the changes are gone.

Created MyLitsBox project as described in Michael Halvorson's book MS VB 2010 Step by Step book. Tip box on p. 89 says to make programs more robust embed images into application rather than use absolute path names to link images into the application. Searched on Halvorson's recommendation "How to: Create Embedded Resources" and found the info at: [URL]
OK. As usual the most difficult thing is finding the menu item, etc., the instructions direct you to. Do the people who write these instructions ever try using them?
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Instructions are as follows
To edit a resource by using the default editor
With a project selected in Solution Explorer, on the Project menu, click Properties.
Click the Resources tab.
On the Resource Designer toolbar, point to the resource view drop-down, click the arrow, and select the type of resource that you want to edit.
Double-click the resource to open the default editor for that resource type.
In the Properties window, select the Persistence property and change it to Embedded in .resx.

I am trying to add a toolbar to my app and I would like to use larger icons than the standard 16x16. An older VB6 app that I created had large icons but I cannot figure out how to get my VB.net app to change to use the large icons.

I can't find an answer to this question anywhere. How do I add a control to the toolbar? I clicked Add reference and added the Microsoft Internet Transfer Protocol, but I can't see it on the toolbar. I also tried with another reference, but couldn't get it there either.
So, should it be there or am I completely wrong? Quirky commenters, please choose another thread. I just want an answer.
EDIT: To make it easier from the start for you guys: I use version 2008.

I hava a MDI form toolbar with command buttons and a picturebox on it.The problem is when I maximize the MDI form on runtime. The picturebox does not change its location to extreme right. I would like to have the picturebox on right hand side of the toolbar all the time, wether MDI form is maximized or in resized condition.

Not really sure what's going on here, but basically I got a new Component/Addon for my Windows Forms. I go and reference it to the Toolbar, which it accepts, and the 3 new components pop up on the screen, all fine and dandy. However, I go and press OK to add them to a group, and nothing happens. They aren't added. So, I try again, same thing. Thinking it could be a bug with the new Component, I make a new group and try to add a built in item to it, and to my surprise, nothing happens as well.

Only problem is that it is using a access database that is coming from "my documents" and when I debug it pulls up the database that is finished. When I run my published program, it uses the database that isn't finished. Why is it doing this?

A little but pissed off at the moment as I have just lost a few hours of work. While I was trying to get a form to resize better (so you can make the form bigger and have all the panels and therefore things inside the panels take up the same percentage of the form), I thought about looking in the designer code to see if anything in there would be easy to change to make it work the way I wanted.
Upon finding what I thought was going to be a good bit of code to edit (code that placed the panel in position), I changed it so that panel2 would find where panel1 was (in the y axis), add panel1's height onto panel1's Y location and use that value as panel 2's Y location:
Me.Panel5.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(0, Panel1.location.Y + Panel1.height)
When I switched back to the visual designer view it came up with a warning page (blue bar across the top of the page saying "To prevent possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved:".Therefore I went back into the designer code and deleted what I had previously done and was a little bit annoyed that I couldn't use that code which I hoped I could.Upon going back to the visual design page everything was gone so I went back to the design code but everything was still there.I sighed in relief and ran the program and everything loaded properly so I decided to quit and reload the project to revert to before the incident occurred to be able to see the design in design view. When I reloaded the project everything was still gone and I then found out that the code from the design had gone too meaning I had lost it all. The code that I created would work in the vb coding, I have tried it.

How does one go about creating their own toolbar for Internet Explorer, or something along those lines? I've been doing some digging around the web, but nobody has really made it clear whether or not it's possible to do with vb.net. I tend to keep in mind that there is almost nothing that isn't possible in vb.net but that's almost.

I am using VS2010 Pro and can no longer see the step into command buttons on the toolbar. That and the step out have disappeared. I know I had many more toolbar buttons across the top that I don't see now but the debug toolbar is checked but there isn't even the step into or step out options to add to the toolbar.
