1) My program has 3 groupboxes each consisting 3 radiobuttons. Based on what is checked in the first box, and then what the user chooses in the second box, I either need to hide the 3 box and choose one option, or keep it showing for the user to select an option. The hiding is because based on the previous choices, there is only one option for the user in the 3rd box, and so I don't want to confuse the user nor waste their time. So I when the user selects radiobutton1, I need to hide groupbox3 and select radiobutton2.This is what I have previously attempted and it didn't work.
[code]...
How can I select the radiobutton using code like shown above?2) My second question is regarding scanning strings. I have 2 output strings. They either print a device or a message saying why the user doesn't get an output. At the end of the code, I need to scan through the strings until I get to a space and then store that as a string. How does one go about doing this?

I have four drop down lists here and I've assigned the datasource and displaymemberproperties so they are populated by a table. When I run the program and select a choice, all four of them get updated with the new choice.

I'm really new at programming and was looking for guidance about a project I have.I have to design a program that administers a multiple choice test to users. It delivers questions one at a time, from a predefined test file for the user to answer. It also marks and displays a score at the end of the test.
First, a QUESTION form verify's the user's registration status and access. The user provides a registration number and password and the program reads it from a "registration.txt" file to determine if the user is eligible to take the test (i.e., they are registered to take it). If it is correct, then the user presses the "Begin" button. If not, then a message appears and the student tries again to enter the information.
A read only text box will display the score at the end of the test (String with format correct/total) and the user can't retake the test.Second, a QUESTION form opens after clicking "Begin" on the entry form. The questions are going to be from a "testfile.txt" file.Each question is on multiple lines in the file. The first line consists of the question followed by possible answers followed by the correct answer ( 3 items are separated by "#"). The current question number and the question will be displayed in textboxes.'n'= possible answers; so each of the next 'n' lines provides a possible answer. All possible answers will be displayed in a Listbox.After the user selects an answer, an ''Enter'' button is pressed. This will submit and evaluate the answer. If nothing is selected a textbox should appear and display the error message (APPEARS ONLY IF THERE IS AN ERROR). After pressing ''Enter'', the next question is displayed.When all questions answered, the entry form is displayed again and displays the score.
I know that's a lot of information, but I wanted it to be really clear. Would it be best to cycle/loop the questions with a DoWhile loop? And how would I store the answers while the user goes through the test?

The following code is a what I have done in order to show a MsgBox when an exit ITEM on a MenuStrip is clicked then it will give two different choices Yes and No. If Yes then it will close the application but if No then it should stay on the same page.
Private Sub ExitToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ExitMenu.Click
MsgBox("Are you sure you want to exit the program?", MsgBoxStyle.YesNo)
If MsgBoxResult.Yes = True Then
Application.Exit()
End If

The problem is when I run/debug my program in Visual Studio 2010, I have a comboBox/dropdown menu which allows the user to select from 3 combinations of years and interest rates. I can select and get output from choices 2 and 3 but not choice 1. Choice 1 being 7 years at 5.35%.

I am trying to create a simple program that delivers True/False questions from a text file and then displays the mark to the student, but I'm running into trouble.I created two forms. The first contains a listbox which is populated with the possible test choices (taken from a .txt file containing only 2 choices). I wrote this code for the listbox
Private Sub frmTest_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'Populates listbox with test names from TESTS.txt
Dim sr As IO.StreamReader = IO.File.OpenText("TESTS.txt")
lstTest.Items.Clear()
[code]....
After the test is chosen, the user presses BEGIN. At this point I have my actual Question form pop up, and the first form is hidden. I tried to begin with an If-Then statement which will open the appropriate .txt based on the selection from the first form.
Private Sub frmQuestion_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'Opens appropriate test based on selection
If frmTest.txtChosenTest.Text = CStr(frmTest.lstTest.Items(0)) Then
[code]....
This is where I get completely bottle necked though. I've been staring at the screen/textbook for 5 hours now and I don't understand how to write the code that will take my questions from the (now open) text file, separate the question from the answer, and put the question and question number in the appropriate text boxes. The format of the question .txt's are simple. One question per line, with the answer following, separated by a comma. For example, Midterm.txt might look like this
Question1isthisone,T
Question2isthisone,F
If I were to design a form for this problem let's say it would look like this:I am currently stuck at this part though. How do I populate the two read-only text boxes with the question number/question, and then cycle through the questions from the .txt while also keeping the user's score?

This is in VB.NET 2003
I have a Form with a few GroupBoxes overlaying one another and being shown based on what the form's supposed to be showing at the moment.
What I want is to have a text object (label, textbox, whatever) be shown regardless of which GroupBox is visible at the moment. Labels that are not inside the GroupBox itself show up under it and are not visible (bringing to front doesn't help), similar issues with TextBoxes, Panels.. I don't know what else to use.
Am I missing something, is there another way of showing text that overlays GroupBoxes without being in them?

I have a question regarding the checkbox. Here is the scenario: I have three groupboxes which I have initially set as invisible. I have three checkboxes out to the side. If I check a checkbox, is it possible to have one of the groupboxes become visible just by checking the checkbox and nothing else. (I mean without clicking a button or anything, just clicking the checkbox and then having a groupbox become visible).

I have a VB.NET (2005) application designed by my boss that uses a over 100 input and display controls (textboxes, comboxes, etc.), many with labels associated. My boss asked me to set the tab order, and then trap keypress so the user can use enter to navigate controls. I have 2 apps like this to work on.For the tab order, I could not use the View/TabOrder feature, since there are so many blue little tabindex popups showing, that I can not see any of the controls on the form to click. I tried clicking 'through' the popup with some success, but it still did not give me the tab order I wanted. The tab assistant that came with CodeSMART did not give me the result I wanted, either, so I could use it.
The controls on this usercontrol are spread among many groups, which in turn are spread among several splitcontainer panels. The 1st panel in the main splitcontainer has 3 main groupboxes which are selected via a toolstripbutton ( which sets the desired groupbox to visible and turning the others to invisible.) Example:
Private Sub ShowMainPanel()
'Note: Panels are groupboxes
Me.MaterialPanel.Visible = False

Im trying to use a CheckboxList Control to Store Yes and No and i noted there its a property on the control
"Selection Mode" One/MultiSelect/MultiSelect Extended
i set One expecting it to allow only one item being select at the same time but it doesnt work as expected, my question is there its another property to achieve this without having to code the event?.
i could do it by coding the event but, im tired of coding stuff that really isnt needed, since there are routines for that on VB.NET.

I have yet another question. I have set up a series of radioButtons to create a menu of choice for a class project and am trying to set it up so that there would hypothetically be a discount on a purchase of two or more t-shirts, I have the coding set up so that if any one item is checked and the calculate button is clicked, then the dollar value or "total" will show up, however I am not able to set up a total for more that one item, it clears the previous "total" and sets up a new total for the most recent t-shirt value checked.

I have a panel on my GUI with radio buttons. When I run the code to determine which is the checked radio button from that panel, the code runs fine, but the panel disappears from the GUI after that. Here is the code I have to determine the checked radio button:
Dim rbName = (From r As RadioButton In Panel1.Controls.OfType(Of RadioButton)() Where r.Checked Select r.Name)
System.Console.WriteLine(rbName.First)
I have tried using:
Panel1.Visible = True
and also
Panel1.Show()
Panel1.Refresh()
but it doesn't show the panel again. I tried the same thing for individual radio buttons such as RadioButton1.Visible = True and it doesn't work.

I'm making a basic game in Visual Basic, and I have a form called "Level1". In Level1, you press a button, and it pops up a dialog (I made the dialog, which is just called "Dialog"). The dialog has an empty label because once you press a button in Level1, in the click event, the label text is set, along with the RadioButton text. The Label is a question such as "What is 10 x 10?" and the RadioButtons display possible answers. Below the RadioButtons, is a Submit button that the user clicks once a RadioButton is selected. The thing is, I only have one dialog box because the game has 5 levels and 9 buttons per level, so I don't want to make 45 separate dialog boxes. Is there a way I can make the Submit button click event in the click event of the first button in Level1?
Private Sub q1Btn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles q1Btn.Click
Reset() 'Setting text for label and radiobuttons to ""

I have developed a simple form with some checkboxes, textboxes, radiobuttons, and textboxes inside a groupbox. Initially I had all of this inside 3 tabs. I created a button to clear all selections so user can restart the process of selection if so choses. It does not work (see below). I thought it is the tabs - so I went on and removed them (by coping the groupbox - deleting the tabs and then pasting the groubox into the main form). The code still does not work. Is there a setting that I must change or something else because a created a simple form with a couple of groupboxes that had all the above mentioned and it works just fine - all of them clear. Just in my form it does not work

I need to display a listbox, but i want to select only one item using radiobuttons. I was looking for info about checkedlistbox, and found some routines that deleselect one item if i check another, but i think is wrong the use of checkboxes (designed to multiple selections) to select one value. Radiobuttons are more suitable for this task, but i dont know how to put the radiobuttons inside a listbox (items are variable, i retrieve that list of items from a database, and populate in run-time).
