I've been trying to get this method to run parallel so it can take full advantage of all processors, and it seems like the data is running over itself. I didn't originally write it, so I'm having a hard time figuring out where it's running over itself when it runs parallel. It gets good data when it runs in a regular For loop.

However recently I am finding if I stop the service then while windows says the service is stopped the process is still running in task manager. However it is at 0 cpu and the memory does not change. If I try and end the task (even a force in command prompt) it just says access denied and i have to reboot the server. What would be the best way to make sure everything terminates? I thought of adding a global Boolean that in the stop procedure it turns true and part of my parallel code will check for that and call s.stop.

I'm pulling data from my DB, adding it to a DataTable and binding that DataTable to my DataGridView. Before I bind the data, I need to change/remove some data. When I loop through the rows and use a Select Case, just for this column, it doesn't work. But if I use an If, it works fine. [Code] In the example above, the "Pass_Flag" row works just fine, but the "FailureCD" does not. But after the Select, with the If statement, it works. In the example, I'm casting the row as a string first and then an integer. I tried casting to an integer in the select case and it doesn't work either.

Ive tried nesting the second loop in the first loop but the second loop takes 3 seconds to complete, so I found that it froze the first loop till the second loop finishes. I was reading about system threading (System.Timers.Timer) and it seems like that is the route I want to go.

Here I got 2 problems, both versions are returning different values at each call with the same array, and the sequential ForEach is being executed much more faster than the parallel.
Does anyone have experience writing data to the parallel port (printer port) in Windows 7 64-bit. I have been trying inpout32.dll, inpoutx64.dll and following all the info on http://www.highrez.co.uk/ and www.logix4u.net but can't get anything to work. I have an on-board parallel port at &H378 - not an add-on card - and have tried various modes in the BIOS (standard, ECP etc). I have a background in electronics so I am confident my testing methods are sound; I just cannot get a data bit to change state under program control. I need to send data to an 8-bit port on some 20th Century electronics so serial/USB interfaces are not really an option. There must be a way to control those 8 data bits in Windows 7, mustn't there?

That code works to read the entry data and to recognise the correct data, and the incorrect. However, even if entry is correct, the error msgbox will appear (x times of how many records there are in file), despite being navigated to the menu. Anyway that the Else isn't triggered when data is correct. Also for it to appear just one instead of (x times of how many records there are in file.)

I can't get the loop to work. The calculator is suppose to show how far someone goes for each hour increment (i.e. if they punch in 3 hours, it should show a number for 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours; if they punch in 10 hours it should show a number for 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours....etc. up to ten hours, etc.) I can't get it to show anything except for the total number of hours traveled and total distance.

I am trying to populate a dataset with data from a dynamic SQL dataset created by a code generator (PDSA). If I want the first row of data, or I use a specific "Where" clause to retrieve 1 row, I have no problem. But, when I loop through the dataset that has four entries, instead of getting the four entries, I get the first row 4 times.

I use VB.NET 2010. So, I have to create a file, which has to follow a very old standard. I use a For Each / Next loop to get all my data. During this loop, I have to check the next entry before it is called. and if the next entry has some condition, it is not allowed to be called again....
