how can i sort too parallel arrays?

Those are the two arrays now when i try array.sort(strflavor, decamountsold) or array.sort(decamountsold, strflavor) they are not arraigned properly. I am trying to get them to sort by which flavor sold the least and which flavor sold the most. However when i sort them, the flavors are not matching up with the decimal values.
My assignment is to have a user enter in big integers using what i think is two parallel arrays. I got this far but now im stuck. I think i need to actually convert the text box input into an array but i do not know how to do that. I am all over the place in this project.

I just learned basic arrays, I'm writing a program the allows Professor Carver to display a grade based on the number of possible points he enters in the inputbox (strMax). Then the user enters the points he earned in the textbox (dblPoints)
Then I solve the percentage. dblResults = dblPoints/CDbl(strMax) The first step is to store the minimum percentage points in one dimensional array. I did that. The second step is to store the grades in one dimensional array. I did that. The arrays should be parallel arrays. Having trouble with it It then should display the corresponding grade from the strGrades array Not done. I'm having trouble to display arrays in that are parallel.

getting started with creating an index search for parallel arrays. When the user enters the specific "code", and presses enter, the information in the other arrays should be displayed based on its matching index. I'm pretty sure I use "For i = " but I'm lost. I have my arrays set up like this:
Dim code(9) As String
code(0) = "A"
code(1) = "H"

In Visual Basic 2005 is it possible to parallel sort three or maybe four arrays? I have a function that is trying to accomplish this but it only parallel sorts the second array with the Array that it is being sorted with. Here is the code
Sub ParallelListBoxSort(ByVal byList As ListBox, ByVal otherLists() As ListBox)
Dim ii As Integer = 0
Dim a As Integer = otherLists.Length
[Code]....
'listToArray' is just a function that converts a list to an 1-Dimensional array and 'setArrayToListCollection' just puts the array back into the appropriated list.
Ive been working on a checkbook application for my visual basic class and I'm a little stumped..
To preface, the values I need to mess with include:
transaction type (checking or deposit)
DTP
check number ("dep" if deposit)
[Code].....
Below is the Change I need to make to my program...
"You will create a set of either collections or arrays (your choice but use just one or the other--don't mix them) scoped at the form/module level. These structures will store all of the input data needed for your checkbook transactions except for the running balance which will continue to be stored in a single module-scoped variable. That is, every input that users made in Assignment 3 will be stored in one of these arrays but you will not store any calculated values. You will not store the transaction type but will store "Dep" or a number in the check number array which will also indicate the transaction type. The Record button will add the current sale's data to these structures using either ReDim for the arrays or an appropriate technique for the collections. (You must ReDim your arrays so that the have just enough space for the data that is in them. Declaring the arrays with a large size with no facility to resize them is not allowed. Don't forget to use the ReDim Preserve syntax to retain the existing array contents when you resize them.)"
I don't know if I make a single array for all the values or if I create a separate one for each. If its a separate one for each I don't understand why an array is needed.
I posted earlier about making a form with an inventory menu I realized i wasnt doing it the wrong way I am suppose to use 3 parallel arrays for Inventory Name, Quantity on hand, and Price. And then Im suppose to make four buttons recieve, ship, value, and print and it suppose to update the new quantity on hand text box this homework is really getting on my nerves Ive been tryin to do it for 2 weeks this is what i have

The exercise prior to this one had us use two parallel arrays that store a letter grade (A, B, C, D, F) and the minimum points needed for each grade. The user input the points earned by the student and the program shows their letter grade. It took a minute, but I got that one done, and it does what it's supposed to do.This exercise has us modify that exercise to ask for the (via InputBox in MainForm Load event) total points possible. The grade is then determined by percentage of the total points possible. For instance, if x is the user input, an "A" would be 90% of x.

View 9 RepliesI need to know how to code a windows application program that will make it possible for customers to place orders online. Customers will have access to menu using a combobox, containing items available. The text file contains all menu items and the price of each item, as well as number of orders for each item. The file is created with a notepad containing 5 menu items.the first line contains the name of the item, second line contains the price and the third contains total number of orders which initially is 0. So far so good i know how to check if the file exists or not,and populating the the combobox, but ther's an instruction where i have ensure that the number of menu items does not exceed 100, and if so,should display an error message.and should validate to ensure that the total number of orders is>0,if not,re display the input box with a suitable message. Then on the save(menustrip),should write the whole textfile from arrays in memory, clear the combobox, display the message. Also has a process payment button where it should read through the arrays with a for next loop, then shouold write function called amount due, which recieves the total orders as a single data type, where the value for amount due is calculated as total orders*price.CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT SINCE IM A BEGINNER IN VB2005.
View 1 RepliesI have a table with two columns, date and time. I am using the following code to sort in descending date order.
VB
If historydataGrid.Rows.Count > 0 Then
'if there are rows, sort by date (most recent first)
historydataGrid.Sort(historydataGrid.Columns(0), System.ComponentModel.ListSortDirection.Descending)
End If
Where Columns(0) is the Date. However, how difficult is it for me to then sort secondarily by time. So that the grid will sort by most recent date and time.. Working down from the most recent time on the most recent date, and then moving backwards towards the oldest date with the oldest time.
I have to write a program using 2 parallel arrays representing grade point and grades. The grade points range from 0 to 500, however, we are only to use the minimum points per each letter grade in " points " array. This is shown in the code below. You then enter a number from 1 to 500, representing the grade points, and in turn it spits out your letter grade. My problem is this. When I enter a number, say 200, I get a letter " D " grade instead of an " F " grade. It appears that every number range I enter gives me one letter grade less than what it is supposed to be. Also, any number 450 to 500, representing an " A " grade does not even register in my Grades Label.

I have two System.Windows.Forms.Timer with different interval having [code]...
but some timer2 not start wroking until timer1 not get finished i want them to run parallel without waiting for each other to finish
I have a question about efficient implementation. Lets say I have two arrays:
One array is all possible items in a house: Table, Chair, TV, Fireplace, Bed
The other is an array of items in a particular house: Table, TV, Bed
I also have two list boxes:
1. listbox for items in the house - the "HAS" list box
2. listbox items not in the house - the "NEEDS" list box
I need to list the items already in the house in the "HAS" list box as well as the items that are NOT in the house in the "NEEDS" list box. It seems to me that nested "For each" loops would be a start to solving this problem but I am not exactly sure which case needs to be nested.
Well I'm just trying to sort array's so it would show in numeric order in the labels ... I tried the code
Array.Sort(arrayname)
Example: 55, 30, 52, 23
goes to 23, 30, 52, 55
however nothing happened when I used this code
I have a situation where I need to sort arrays and preserve the current key - value pairs.
For example, this array:
(0) = 4
(1) = 3
(2) = 1
(3) = 2
Needs to sort like this
(2) = 1
(3) = 2
(1) = 3
(0) = 4
Retaining the original keys. Array.Sort(myArray) sorts into the right sequence but doesn't keep the indexes. I need a variant that does.edit Using the links, this seems close to what I want. Do I just need to remove the extra brackets to convert this to vb.net?

is it possible to sort Multi-dimensional Arrays? If the answer is yes could someone help me giving some hints on how to start?
View 6 RepliesI have two arrays (array1 and array2)with double type data. I want to sort array1 to ascending order, and array2 with corresponding to the array1 indexes. Is this possible? Example below,

Array1(2) = 1.90

I have two ASMX web services consumed from javascript. The first service performs a long operation and updates a database table on its progress. The second service polls that same database table in order to report the progress to the end user via a progress bar.
My problem is that the long process seems to be blocking the polling service. When I log the activity of the javascript, it seems to be requesting the long service correctly, and then starts to request the polling service once a second asynchronously (note: the long process is asynch as well). Both request types either use setInterval or setTimeout which shouldn't halt the browser. Yet when I look at the activity of the javascript, none of the responses from the polling requests return until the long process completes. So it seems the long process is blocking the polling requests until it's done.

I have a service that scans network folders using a parallel.for method. However recently I am finding if I stop the service then while windows says the service is stopped the process is still running in task manager. However it is at 0 cpu and the memory does not change. If I try and end the task (even a force in command prompt) it just says access denied and i have to reboot the server. What would be the best way to make sure everything terminates? I thought of adding a global Boolean that in the stop procedure it turns true and part of my parallel code will check for that and call s.stop.
View 1 RepliesI've been trying to this application in Visual Studio 2010 to only write to the parallel port, so supposedly it would be a very easy task, and by all the tutorials in the internet i've seen before it really is! Although it throws me always the same error which is too generic and don't give enough information for me to solve it. I'm doing this using the "Inpout32.dll" library to make the communication between VB.NET and the port..

converting this to parallel for loop, this will be my first time on parallel for loop. i have this nested for loop, it looks like this:

Dim TempUserControl As New UserControl
TempUserControl = FlowLayOutPanel.Controls.Item(i)

I've been trying to follow the examples I've found online and, well, I can't really get my head around what I've done wrong. So, I have a simple piece of code to search for a machine in AD, as so. [code]
View 5 RepliesI've been trying to get this method to run parallel so it can take full advantage of all processors, and it seems like the data is running over itself. I didn't originally write it, so I'm having a hard time figuring out where it's running over itself when it runs parallel. It gets good data when it runs in a regular For loop.
Parallel.For(1, endm, Sub(m)
'Debug.Print("Top of loop: " & Now)
For p = 1 To rowend
[code]....
I want to expand it a little bit and add a second timer that runs parallel to the first timer, but is not affected in any way shape or form by the first timer.
I want the timers to run like this:
Time Timer1 Timer2
0 X X
1 X
2 X
3 X
4 X
5 X X
6 X
7 X
8 X
9 X
10 X X
Ive tried nesting the second loop in the first loop but the second loop takes 3 seconds to complete, so I found that it froze the first loop till the second loop finishes. I was reading about system threading (System.Timers.Timer) and it seems like that is the route I want to go.
I wrote this quick as an example:
This assumes that I added a windows timer control as timer1
vb
Option Strict On
Imports System
Imports System.Timers

Can someone tell me if the functionallity to control a parallel port in MS VB 2010 Expess exists? I was expecting to have to add a reference such as the microsoft comm control 6.0. However this reference does not appear in the list. Everything I search for references .net 2005/2008.
View 4 RepliesSuppose you have an array with 10.000.000 elements filled with values between 1 and 10, and you need to count how many fives it contains, something like:
Dim RandList As New List(Of Integer)
Dim r As New Random
Dim Counter As Integer = 0
For i As Integer = 1 To 10000000
RandList.Add(r.Next(1, 10))
[Code] .....
Here I got 2 problems, both versions are returning different values at each call with the same array, and the sequential ForEach is being executed much more faster than the parallel.
