VS 2010 Positioning And Item Regardless Of Resolution Or Form Size?
Sep 26, 2011
I am new to this forum, and have search both here and on the interwebz.I don't have my code here right now, but thought I could ask anyways:I have an application that is going to run in fullscreen and display a clock in a defined position on the screen when it is in fullscreen mode. How can I define that position so that the clock appears at that point regardless of resolution on the screen?

Wondering if there was a way around the seemingly nonsensical editor changing of the maximum size form you can edit/create to some value approaching the screen resolution you are working on. This is a P.I.T.A. as I often edit pages on a laptop with a smaller max resolution than the monitors I typically do layouts for.Any way to by pass this to let me edit larger screen sizes on my laptop?

I have a very high screen resolution on my laptop: 1400x1050.My colleague tried it out on his laptop (which had lesser resolution), and the application did not fit on his laptop. The buttons were dragging out of the screen space.So, I want my application to automatically resize/adjust based upon the screen resolution.I don't want to use Maximized screen option and don't want to change user's pc settings.Unfortunatly I am not using Table Layout panel.

Now all went well about from using the structure correctly. The working of the structure was perfect. How ever i missed Two important issues. The structure needed a fixed size of 10 items (9 in programming terms starting from 0) And also out of the 5 items allowed to be chosen as one of the member types for the structure a limit of 5 items of that particular type.

I have a form where I need to place some labels dinamically. Some of the label's height needs to change depending on the string size that will populate the label's text. So what I need to do is position the labels one below the other, after the text has been populated and the height has been set.

I have a database application in which a user can add up to 6 pictures to each record. This pictures are not directly saved in the database but in a sub folder of the applicvation folder. Now, the problem is that lots of the pictures of users were taken on a digital camera with highest resolution - in these days it means that the picture files have a file size of 3MB.I would like to reduce the file size / resolution of the picture, so that the database can load and view this files more smoothly (I am not in need of a thumbnail preview, just want the pictures being a bit smaller).
The way pictures get attached / linked / 'inserted' to a database record is via OpenFileDialog. When a user selects a picture file it gets copied into the applications picture folder and renamed to the record ID of the actual record + number of the pic added.How could I reduce the picture size during adding it (OpenFileDialog / copying to folder)?

I just want to get opinions from other developers.What size do you tend to prefer for your applications?I have decided to stick to 1024×768 but am I alienating the people who still have 800×600.According to Wikipedia only 1% of internet users still use 800×600 screen resolution.What size do you tend to prefer for your applications?

I have just found that if a DataGridView image column's size (height & width - in pixels) is smaller than the image's original size (in my case all images are exactly 180 x 180 pixels) at the time the cell is populated then the image is automatically being converted to a lower resolution I assume to fit the image completely within the size of the cell). How can I stop the automatic scaling of the image?
The image below show the same file displayed twice, both at 60x60 pixels ('Thumbnail' column) and a blowup of the image (PictureBox populated via the CellMouseEnter event) to it's right. You'll notice the resolution of the first blowup is far less the the second. so, what made the difference in the resolution of the blowups is? In the second blowup's case I'd first stretched the image column's width to ~180 pixels and set the row height to match (via the ColumnWidthChanged event) then populated the DataGridView then stretched the image column to 60 pixels (its minimum).

I'm trying to position a small form that will have its top left edge exactly lined up with the bottom left edge of a label. But I am finding this to be impossible to accomplish because of some magical hidden offset that exists somewhere ... I don't know where.
So here's what I got, if I can manage to pilfer out only the relative portions... For the sake of simplicity, I'll focus only on the horizontal positioning below:
Dim FrameSize As Size
Dim TargetHorzFramePos as Single
FrameSize = SystemInformation.FrameBorderSize

We did development of a VB application on a machine with a high resolution screen. Also the machine where the real application runs has a high resolution screen. After a while we wanted to do minnor changes on the application and we wanted to use a low resolution laptop for that. When we opened the application for editing we saw that all forms changed their sized automatically AND unwanted.How can we build and change applications in one form size that does not change depending on the resolution of the machine on which edits are made?

I have a series of tabs, each containing a series programatically generated PictureBoxes that are all 480x360. The TabControl is anchored to all 4 edges of the form, so it always takes up the whole area.
I would like the PictureBoxes to behave similarly to how images behave when floated in HTML/CSS. So if I have 5 pictures and the window is only ~900 wide then I will have 3 rows, 2 in the first 2 and 1 in the last. But if the window is then expanded to ~1500 then I get 2 rows - 3 on the first and 2 on the last.
What is the simplest way to achieve this? Is there a built in way?I am planning on repositioning the pictures when SizeChanged fires on the TabControl, or when the selected tab changes.

I am adding a series of RadioButtons to a GroupBox programatically. By default they are all placed on top of each other. So I use a bit of math to position them all nicely and then resize the GroupBox.
However I notice that the GroupBox has an AutoSize property, but it doesn't seem to be resizing as controls are added.
Is there a better way to position my radio buttons than to specify each one programatically? I mean, can't this stuff be handled automatically by the framework?

First of all, apologies if I have posted in the wrong forum, I am new to the forum and cannot find any "help" or "support" forums.I have been working on a web browser in VB. I want to make the WebBrowser auto-size whenever the client re-sizes the form (window). I have got it working mainly, exept for 1 problem; I have a status strip, and the web browser overlaps the status strip.
Private Sub Form1_SizeChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.SizeChanged
WebBrowser1.Width = Me.Width()

the title of this topic may sound like a simple property that I need to disable, but I am pretty sure it might be something more difficult than that. I have a borderless form and I want the size to be 280,32. The width of it is fine, but whenever I set the form to visible, it changes the height to 38 instead. I have added event handlers for ClientSizeChanged, and it changes the size to 10, and then to 38. This is only when I set the visible property to true. I have tried setting almost all the properties to their inverse to see any effect and I don't see anything happen.

Just trying to make a form which is 15,13 (small I know!).When I set the form size it accepts it but when building it bumps the form size back up to a larger value.The reason this is required is irrelevant, just wondering if there is a minimum size a form can be set to and if there is, is there a work around?
