I'm using VB 2010 Express Edition(Registered) and after about a week of coding, the changes I write no longer works. Example, when I comment a line it still executes as if it wasn't 'commented'. Even my menus are not showing the right items.
View 9 RepliesI have completed a small VB console app to read data from a BT card scanner. From within the VS2010 developer the app runs as desired, capturing the data and displaying it on screen with console.writeline().When I compile and execute the code either from the debug bin version or the release bin version, the app only captures the first few bytes then closes. All the code is within the Module1 Sub Main. Is there a compile setting or other property that I need to adjust?

Obviously the entire process cannot be automated unless the program clicks "Yes" or "No" for the user. Is there any way that I can capture this alert box and click "Yes" programmatically?
View 4 RepliesI've been working on a program that generates a batch file, then when you press a button, it executes that batch file. There are multiple batch files attached to each item in the list box.

The only thing that it does when I press the button, is starts the batch file, then goes to function searchtitle, which executes the batch file again when it finds out it didn't work properly.The button text doesn't change, none of the items are being added to my first list box, and I can't do anything to the window after pressing the button. It constantly opens the batch file every 5 seconds or so.
I have a program that runs a pretty long operation in the background once a user clicks the button. I have implemented a progress bar but if the window is touched or moved then it grays out and says (Not repsonding). Everything still works and when the operation finishes the program resumes function. (But a user would not know this
View 3 RepliesHas anyone else had issues with Visual Basic 2010?My visual basic program has been running fine for months but recently every time I try and load a project (any project) the program freezes, then I have to close it down and reload, every time I load Visual basic for the second time I get the following error:

An error was encountered while opening associated documents the last time this solution was loaded. Document load is being skipped during this solution load in order to avoid that error.Plus when trying to run a project in debug it takes ages to load (around 5 minutes) this has only started happening recently, projects were loading in seconds.
A colleague has written a useful tool. He wrote it as a standalone tool, but it works even better as an includable dll, though it needs a bit of other functionality for it to be a really good drop-in component. What I am wondering is whether a project can be compiled as both an exe and as a dll?
There are alternatives, such as having a dll version and an exe version, since the dll version needs to include a few different methods that the exe version doesn't need, but this alternative sucks, since it would mean changing two sets of code.
Another alternative is to build the dll, then change the exe to be a project that references the dll....and does nothing other than calling one method in the dll. That kind of sucks, too, but not as bad.
I want to be able to use his module in some of my programs, and it really should be built as a component rather than a standalone app, but I want to know whether there are other options that I haven't considered.
I have a VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2010 for an Excel Add-In.I use the "My" namespace,and in general it seems that the "My Project" folder contains configuration information about the project.My problem is that I need to change the name of this folder, because my version manager system won't accept spaces in file or folder names.Edit: There is a hacky way to do it, by renaming the folder and changing all references in the .vbproj file.However, the may work for a command line generation, but it won't work the next time the project will be opened in Visual Studio. The IDE will create a new "My Project" folder, and complain that it can't find the settings in it.

View 3 RepliesI am coding an ATM interface for a VB.net project. I wish to use command buttons to enter the code, just like one would do so at an actual ATM. I am using 4 separate labels or text boxes (whichever is more convenient), to print the separate numbers to, once the command buttons are clicked by the user.
The problem I am having is that once the 1st button is clicked, it is continually being overwritten, by clicking a second button. I have tried making the labels or text boxes... enabled = False, but it is still overwritten when the second button is clicked. Is there any means of bypassing this problem and getting the first label or text box locked off, after the first click?
The situation: when i build my project (or publish) Visual Basic 2010 makes and exe and a couple ddl files. when i run the project with the .exe and the other files the program works perfectly.
My problem: I want to share it with friends and it is just a verry little program ( a n internet radio) so i want it to be 1 .exe with out any other instalation needed so i can easly share it to anyone who wants it. when i make an even smaller program and Debud->build it, it is only 1 exe and no instalation needed. so is there a way to make my program to 1 exe only?
well until a few day ago. I don't know what I have introduced to cause the problem but now, whenever I load the project, VS 2010 (SP1) crahes. If I delete the project's suo file, the project loads (really quickly) and all is well until I exitVS 2010. When I re-run it and try to load the project, it crashes again unless I delete the suo file.The program can be built for x64 and x86. Now, when I reload the project (after deleting the suo file), it comes up in Debug - Any CPU mode. I can change from Debug to Release and from Any CPU to x86 but if I try and change from x86 to x64, VS 2010 crashes.This is not always the case though. If I build the x86 version and then switch to x64, all is well and I can build the x64 version. Obviously, there's something wonky going on.

View 7 RepliesI have been working on them and adding to them for several months. Out of nowhere, one of the subs in my project is not recognizing updated code. I had a for loop in there that was acting funny so I changed something and noticed no difference. I messed with it for a while and decided to just replace everything in that sub with a simple msgbox and it still tries to run the code that was previously there. I have built the solution, rebuilt it, cleaned it, closed and reopened it, removed the bin and obj folders and restarted my computer several times. This is not a server program or anything dealing with IIS or anything like that.

View 2 RepliesI have an application which has been deployed in a setup programme, but have lost the original project setup code.The new versions setup project has a different 'Upgrade code' GUI in the setup project and therefore when you try and upgrade the product it throws an error saying that a later version of the product is installed!
Is there any way for me to retrieve the Upgrade Code from an installed version of the program so that I can amend the new installer to match the old program.The program has to be installed to 350+ desktops via active directory, so no answers with silly shortcuts that only work for a single PC please people.

I am having an unhandled overflow error whose cause I can not find. I get one of those "Sorry, this program has to be closed" errors. Is there any way that I can have Visual Studio highlight all lines of code that are not embedded in a try/catch statement?

i am a Microsoft Word developer and I sell Microsoft Office solutions, to companies. I am beginning to be concerned that my solutions are being copied - which is fairly easy.I am hoping someone can give me some advice about the best way to do this.I don't really have much of an understanding outside of Office VBA development - but have dabbled in .NET and VB in the past. Should I be buying Visual Studio - if so, does it matter if I buy Visual Studio 2008 or 2010 - I will initially need to convert some Word 2007. I have previously downloaded the .NET framework, and not sure how this relates to Visual Studio.
