I call the method GetUrl below provided in a form-based assembly from a console application to get the content of an HTML page. This works fine so far with one exception. The code starts an iexplore-process in the background and this process remains active even after fnishing my program. The only way I found to get rid of this process was to kill the process, but this seems not be be a very nice and mature solution. I already read that the NET webbrowser control in only a wrapper for an activeX COM control of IE.
Question: How can I close the newly created iexploe-process in a clean way using the webrowser object?

My app starts an On-Screen Keyboard process like this:

It seems to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes the PID.Kill() fails because it says the process already exited. At this point the OSK is always still there on screen. Yes, I know my code should be testing to see if the process is still running before trying to kill it, but given that the OSK is still on screen..

View 8 RepliesI am trying to change the cursor type to a crosshair but am having no luck. The program I am writing initially starts up as taskbar notfiy icon. Once one of the menu items is clicked the mouse cursor should change from an arrow to crosshair. This should remain like this when the mouse button is pressed again, held and then released and then it should go back to being an arrow cursor once again.To start off, I wrote the following code:

Using VB on a graphics screen I want to have the cursor move on a grid as opposed to every pixel. I believe I must hide the cursor and then draw it myself over the background, but I do not understand how to do this.
View 9 Repliesi have have a MDI child form which have different textbox for criteria and a datagridview for result.When i launch the research i change the cursor : me.usewaitcursor = True when it finish i go back me.UseWaitCursor = False It works but some times (not all the time) if you move the cursor over the datagridview during the research, the cursor still in WaitCursor OVER the datagridview, it didn't go back to default but on the rest of the form is good (default arrow).I have tried whith : Me.cursor , cursor or cursor.current but i have the same result/problem.

View 1 RepliesI am working on a contract to repair problems in a application that interfaces with a custom built digitizer tablet.The application recognizes the tablet at startup, initiates calibration to locate the pad limits and then saves those limits to file.During the run of the application the user has a cursor that is changed to a line with a X on the left hand side of it. The user then uses this custom cursor to click in a PDF document where they would like the contents of the Digitizer pad to be placed. When they click a box signifying the size of the digitizer pad along with the same blank and X appears. What I have been having issue with is that the box and the line with the X appear most of the time but on occasion the line and X appears at either the top or bottom of the box and the click is no longer at the line with the X but somewhere in the middle of the box. This really screws up things and often the user has to uninstall and re-install the application to get it righted.
The values that save the calibration points are bound to variables during the build process, there is a separate routine to calibrate the digitizer pad if the user desires to do it again.

The following procedures sorts a listview column based on what the tag is, 'Numeric', 'String' or 'Date'. When you click on the column header the sort procedure kicks in. On the first click it will sort ascending and on the second click it will sort descending.
My problem is that when I click a second time it won't sort descending but re-sorts ascending again.It appears when the sortorder is passed to the ListViewColumnSorter.vb classes it changes back to ascending even though it's called as descending. I've bolded the offending variables using a Numeric search.Now here's the really iritaing thing, I have exactly the same code in another application and it works perfectly?

This is my code for a trial application. The code is pretty basic but what i couldn't figure out was how i would be able to prevent users from changing the date to extend the trial ("error" i would be getting).
There is an older version of the software which works fine on all of our deployment platforms, but the version I am trying to push out is working fine on 32-bit desktop installations, but is crashing-and-burning when it attempts to access Crystal Reports and Informix installed DLLs on a 64-bit machine, running terminal server sessions (yeah, I know, could I change anything more about the deployment platform?)One of the suggested avenues of investigation was changing the solution platform from "Any CPU" to x86.On attempting to do this, Visual Studio seems to stop being able to connect the partial classes constructed by XAML objects, with objects declaring that they have no "InitializeComponent" methods, and then failing on down the line until I reach the maximum number of errors.
Oddly, changing the solution platform, and then rebuilding in Expression Blend compiles just fine. Changing the platform back to AnyCPU makes the problem disappear. All projects have compile and debug configurations set to Active. I can't see any reason why simply changing the targeted platform would stop the XAML from generating partial classes Okay, it seems to be that there are some external DLLs to the project, and that those are the cause of what I'd call the first-level compilation failure, as they don't seem to contain any classes once the target platform has switched.In VS2008, this causes the cascading failure of absolutely nothing working at all, as described above, but at one point I somehow managed to import the project to VS2010 with only those errors in place (missing classes, etc.), without the rest of the project imploding.I'm now working on reconstructing those classes from those DLLs, and hopefully will be able to get together a project that will compile on multiple target platforms by the end of the day.

View 2 RepliesI created a form and have the variable inputs for 4 motor run statements. Then with a start button the script starts and it is surrounded by a for next statement to loop 10 times. It works fine but if i need to stop the execution of the script with a stop button. I put the stop in a new section but of course does not work to do a motor stop. It just causes the exe to not respond till the loop is complete. Just need to be able to stop the Run1_Click button section.
Edit:I do not mind if it finishes the 4 motor run commands and then stops execution of the loop. So need to figure out a way to trigger a stop from a button on the form to stop the cycle. For the future the loop will be a variable integer input so 10 will not be the standard.
Edit::Does a ' Do ' statement sound like the thing to use? If so how and where would I place that? Have a Stop button on the form and it would stop after the 4th motor run command.

I want to make a package to allow me to start and stop the software remotely and to monitor when the software is running or not.Ideally there would be some sort of event in windows when the user starts or stops the software. I develop an appliaction which is running a process in the background. This process is "forked" from the application (I'm not using threads). The process may take a few minutes while the 'father' application is waiting to the process output, so I'd like to enhance the application with the following:
a) a "Stop" button (like in IE, FireFox) to stop the process in background
b) A status bar that displays what's going on while the process is running in BG.
how to draw a button or status bar of course... I mean how VB.NET handle with stopping or displaying while something else is running in background and how to do it.
When I go to Debug my program (F5), the program will load, until I click on the form with the main part of code in it, and then the program freezes, although it doesn't lock up because as soon as I press stop debugging/ task manager end process, it closes fine.

How would I change the process name? Like if the program is named Program.exe, how will I change it so that in task manager it shows up as something like Program2.exe
View 7 RepliesI have a START and STOP button and when the user clicks "start" the program does a whole bunch of calculations and all. However, I noticed that when I was testing the program I clicked STOP the program continues to execute stuff.
My START code is basically a while loop that iteratively does some calculations.
So I just put a boolean variable as the while condition and when user clicks stop its set to false and when user clicks start its set to true. However, when I click stop, the condition is set to false yes but it still executes all the code until the condition is re-evaluated right...so my question is how can I get out of the while loop when user instantly clicks "stop"?
I've got an application that has a bug right now, but we're unable to update the end-user to get the fix out. What a possible workaround would be is to change the working directory to the application's install directory, but from what I can tell, there's no way to do that outside of the program itself.
