VS 2010 Compile On WIN7 64bit
Aug 19, 2010
I'm using VB.net 2010 express, where can I find the compiler option for 64bit? or, it will compile for 32bit only? or, it should work for both 32 and 64 bit in most case?I'm using a 64bit component in the program, vb express reports error when I compile it, but if I use the 32bit compnent, then it is ok.does it mean express 2010 automatically compile to 32bit? or somewhere I should set the win7 64bit (which is what i'm using).just start using win7 64bit & vb express 2010, got confused

Depending on what component is handling the print for you, some of them are not 64 bit ready (i.e. 32 bit only). To use them you must compile your application as 32 bit only. It will then run on the WOW platform that Win7 supplies.
You change this option on the PropertiesCompile screen. Press Advanced Compile Options and review Target CPU:

Does the NDde class work on 64 bit platforms?
I have used it successfully on 32 bit Win XP VB2008 Express application, but I am having trouble in 64bit Win7 environment.
Specifically the .Connect method is throwing an exception {"The client failed to connect. Make sure the server application is running and that it supports the specified service name and topic name pair."} NDde.DdeException

I just switched to Win7 Ultimate edition 64bit and now the beep functionality via internal speaker (system speaker on motherboard) does not work anymore. The reason is described here (basically M$ trying to clean up their code):url...I used "Console.Beep(a,b)" to notify me that a process has ended.Any ideas how to send some kind of acoustic signal through the internal speaker (any loud noise would do for my purposes).

I have written a Forms application that analyzes a lot of (~1400) 8-bit jpg images from automated lab-equipment. I am in the process of migrating from WinXP to Win7 and to my surprise I noticed that analysis was 5 times slower under win7 compared to win XP (!?!?!). I investigated further and found that the loading of the jpg images was the step that was takning longer! The simple code demonstrates the problem: On XP i get 70 images per second, but only 12 images per second under win7. Has anyone else noticed this performance drop, and can something be done to improve it?

I compiled some VB6 code on my Win7 x64 machine and the result .exe will not run correctly on any other machine. VB6 code is just a new template .exe file with one button, a reference to "Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.6 Library" and the following code in the button press event: Dim db Set db = New ADODB.Connection It runs correctly on my machine, but no others (even other Win7 x64 machines) (Update: I found TWO other users where it runs and one of them is Jeff Atwood!, but most machines have the same problem)

I am trying to execute DiskShadow on Server 2008 R2 via Process.Start
[code]...
Now, what's happening is that the Diskshadow script fails with a "com call "(*vssobject)->initializeforbackup" failed." If I then open a command prompt/powershell prompt as administrator and execute "Diskshadow -s diskshadow.txt" manually it works just fine.
If, however, I try c:windowssyswow64Diskshadow -s diskshadow.txt I get the exact same error as when I try to run it via Process.StartSo, there seems to be some 32bit weirdness going on here when I try to run Diskshadow via Process.Start (Even though I am forcing it to use the copy in C:windowssystem32

In WinXP with LV FullRowSelect enabled I can press and hold down the left mouse button and drag it down the right side of the left-most LV column and the rows are selected, but under Win7 I can only multiselect items with the mouse if FullRowSelect is set to false.
So I guess I need to write code to support this sort of feature for Win7 ? , and if true are there any code examples (I can't find anything) to save me some time?

In several of my apps I have Build Date shown in the Help -> About screen, just so that people can see how recent the version of the app they are using is. I just manually set the text of this label to the current date whenever I compile a new version of the app, but on more than one occasion I have forgotten... so I'm wondering if there is any way I can automate this?So just to clarify - I do not want today's date (as in the date that the program is being run on), I want to get the date that the program was compiled (either at runtime or compile time, just as long as I dont have to manually enter it)

I am having trouble finding a code for visual basic 2010 (or 2008) that will compile batch files to a .exe format. (So they can no longer be edited.)So far I've only found one program that does this (And was made in Visual Studios) and the program doesn't even actually work due to some unknown error. It'd be a great help to get a source code or just told that this isn't even possible.

I've made Add-in for Word 2007 in VS2005.It worked well with Word 2007 and now it works well with Word 2010 32 bit. However it doesn't work with Word 2010 64 bit. The installation is successful, but the ribbon button doesn't show up.
Do you have any experience with add-ins for Office 64 bit?

I start doing some work tonight and note that the solution compiles fine in Visual Studio, but when I run the web app I get a compilation error:

Is VB Express 2010 slower to compile and run that older versions of VB Express? I've installed it this weekend and it seems a little sluggish on my quad core computer with 1 gig of RAM. I have VB Express 2005 installed for my students at school and it seems to fly just fine. Those school computers are older P4s with 512k of RAM.
