View 2 RepliesI am compiling a program from my own program using VBCodeProvider and everything was working well but somewhere along the lines I changed a reference option or something and now everytime I try to build my child program I get the error

Visual Studio 2005 - The MSDN has a sample command line compile:
Assemblies compiled with /platform:x86 will execute on the 32-bit CLR running under WOW64.I have to created a bat file to do a compile because I have to add /win32Resource since the IDE is useless when it comes to using /win32Resource.But I cannot get a command line compile to work when I add /platform:x86 like this:vbc /platform:x86 /debug /win32resource:ResTempl1.res *.vbI get the following error:Command line warning BC2007 : unrecognized option 'platform:x86' ; ignoredI finally copied the text from the MSDN, added quotations, moved it around - still it fails.
I have inherited a VB.NET application that I need to compile so I can run dorkumentation on it. I first received "Option Strict On disallows implicit conversion from x to y" errors, so I turned off the Option Strict option in the Project file.
So why do I still fail with the same error message?
In VB 2008 Express, in the top menu, there is "Build" (Between Project and Debug), but it's not there in VB 2010 Express. I tried to find an option for it in Tools, but I can't find it. I can use the Build menu in VB2008 to build an .exe that shows up in the "Release" folder. What can I do to make an .exe as a release, so that I can implement it? If I was to use the .exe in the "Debug" folder, I can only run it in Debug mode.
In VB2010, I can right-click on the area near the toolbar and choose "build", which makes 2 buttons appear. I can click on the Build" button, but it does not create a new .exe in the "Release". Sorry if the solution is really simple, but I am a newbie, and I've only recently converted to VB 2010 Express. I can't believe how difficult this problem is!
Does anyone able to advise on abovementioned error? Under Private Sub UserForm_

View 1 RepliesIn several of my apps I have Build Date shown in the Help -> About screen, just so that people can see how recent the version of the app they are using is. I just manually set the text of this label to the current date whenever I compile a new version of the app, but on more than one occasion I have forgotten... so I'm wondering if there is any way I can automate this?So just to clarify - I do not want today's date (as in the date that the program is being run on), I want to get the date that the program was compiled (either at runtime or compile time, just as long as I dont have to manually enter it)
View 7 RepliesI'm using VB.net 2010 express, where can I find the compiler option for 64bit? or, it will compile for 32bit only? or, it should work for both 32 and 64 bit in most case?I'm using a 64bit component in the program, vb express reports error when I compile it, but if I use the 32bit compnent, then it is ok.does it mean express 2010 automatically compile to 32bit? or somewhere I should set the win7 64bit (which is what i'm using).just start using win7 64bit & vb express 2010, got confused
View 3 RepliesI am having trouble finding a code for visual basic 2010 (or 2008) that will compile batch files to a .exe format. (So they can no longer be edited.)So far I've only found one program that does this (And was made in Visual Studios) and the program doesn't even actually work due to some unknown error. It'd be a great help to get a source code or just told that this isn't even possible.
View 1 RepliesI've found that when trying to compile any program I receive this error on build:[code]I've tried reinstalling/repairing VS, resetting my settings and changing the target framework with no success. I even tried installing VS on another PC (both are running win 7 Pro 64 bit) only to still receive the same error.

View 3 RepliesI really like the coding speed that vb.net provides, but I don't like the possibility to forget to declare variable types, return types of functions, etc. and that is why in each class I use[code]..
Is there a way to define those two options on the project/solution level?
the combo box style 1 has both the drop down option but also a manual entry option. I need to know how to code it so that when you manually enter data, it takes that data and places it in a text message "The shipping charges for "data" is $15" displaying in a text box. Shouldn't be hard but have developed a mind block.
View 4 RepliesI have a Linq-to-SQL class diagram in my web application containing the two tables in my database (held in a DBPro database project in the same solution). View 1 RepliesI've seen that there are several options out there for being able to send email from within a Visual Basic program, but I've seen much less written about how to use the program to receive emails. What I'd like to do is set up a dedicated email account (probably g-mail or Yahoo or something similar, although it could be through the email package that comes with my web hosting) that I'd use to send short text commands to the program from my laptop or smart phone. Periodically the program would download new emails (if any), and parse the body to see what I'm telling it to do. Something like, "cmd a" tells it to e-mail me Report A, "cmd b" tells it to e-mail me Report B, etc.

I been reading about the windows services in the msdn but I get lost quick because I'm not sure what it is that I actually need. I'm only using the standard version. Any pointers on how I can give a user the option to install my executable as a service so that it can run when no one is logged in.

I brought up a new project in Visual Studio 2010 and found that there are no gridlines on the form. I went to Tools, Options, Windows Form Designer, General and found the Show Gridlines option set to True. I tried turning it to false and back to true with no change.
