VS 2010 - Create An VB Application To Compress Files, Without Using A 3rd Party App?
Jul 28, 2011
I'm just wondering if it is possible to create an vb.net application to compress files, without using a 3rd party app. If yes, can you please point me in the right direction, give me some tips, tutorials or sample code?
VB.NET 2003 or 2005 application program.i was trying to create an application program to compress some files using 7zip. when application program runs, need to browse and select the files need to be compressed and mention the name of the zip file and compress the file in that folder.i google for some help. i'm getting examples only in C#.Anyone know whether i can do this in VB.NET?
I am trying to create an interface between a third party application which can make use of C/C++ DLLs, but no interface directly to .NET. What I was hoping to accomplish (not sure if possible though), is create a very basic C++ DLL (not .NET), which the third party application would call directly. This DLL would contain a basic method such as "DoSomething()". Somehow, from my .NET application, I want to "listen" to this DLL and "takeover" the DoSomething() method, and then returning the result back to the DLL, which will in turn return the result back to the calling third party application.
I don't even know if this is possible because I'm sure I would somehow have to get a hold of the memory space of the DLL as initiated by the third party application. Also, it seems that creating a managed DLL does not work, based on feedback from other individuals who have tried this.
I'm trying to create a DLL injector (merely for 3rd party option-toggling), but for some reason this code doesn't work.It will always return "Failed to create thread!"Here are the contents of the (Form1.vb)
Public Class Form1 Private Declare Function GetProcAddress Lib "kernel32" (ByVal hModule As Long, ByVal lpProcName As String) As Long Private Declare Function GetModuleHandle Lib "kernel32" Alias "GetModuleHandleA" (ByVal lpModuleName As String) As Long Private Declare Function LoadLibrary Lib "kernel32" Alias "LoadLibraryA" (ByVal lpLibFileName As String) As Long
I would like to know if its possible for my vb.net app to monitor a 3rd party application that it starts. I'd like it to check every 0.5 seconds to see if the child app has a dialog box visible with a specific text string caption. If it does then I want to close my app but if isn't yet visible, keep looping until it is. I'm asking because the 3rd party app has "no event firing when the application starts to load and then displays the dialog so there is no way for the 3rd party app to report back" to my vb.net app when this is loaded.
This came from the Technical Support from the 3rd party app after I asked if using waitforinputidle() in my app would allow me to detect when their app finishes loading and enters an idle state (sadly not). However they have suggested that it might be possible to monitor their app for a specific dialog caption and then close my app but this is beyond my novice understanding just now. How to go about such a process?
I'm making a presentation program. It's a bit like PowerPoint, but less complicated and for a different purpose.
All files used in the presentation (like images, texts and sounds) should be put into a single 'file-package'. This package should later be opened by my program, which should be able to use the files from the package. (Just like PowerPoint creates a single file with all images and sounds included, which can be loaded in PowerPoint on a different computer.)
Actual compression for the file is not really needed. It could be sort of like a tar-file.

I want to have a backup feature which takes about 7 txt files and compresses/packs them into one file. Then if required at a later stage I can unpack all 7 files from the packed file. I do not need any compression as such just to make one file from 7, then 7 from from that one, if you understand what I mean. I have read there are some native libraries in .NET Framework 2.0 called DeflateStream and GZipStream. Can these be used?
I'd like to use WinRAR's dll file to compress files in vb.net.Is there any way this can be done? The only one I found was using the unrar.dll to uncompress files. Also, I'd like to know how to implement WinZIP's dlls to compress files as the zipfldr.dll does not achieve very high levels of compression and encryption.
How do i make a program that can compress files, just like programs like winrar do? Every time i try via something as simple as text editor changing something, then changing it back, then it wont work anymore. Any suggestions on how i can make one of these kinds of compression programs?
Excuse me for posting this, but I have searched both Google along with this forum before asking this question, maybe I'm not using the right keywords but I apologize if it's easy to find.I would like to know how one could close a third-party window (application) if a specified string was found in the window title.
I have a program I made in vb.net express 2008 that used java.utils.zip to compress my work files to a Zip archive that I ran occassionaly to have a backup. I worked fine, but with net framework 4 and vb.net 2010 it doesn't work. So I modified it to use sharpziplib and it works fine if all files on the filter list in the folder are closed, but if I have a file open in OpenOffice writer, my program can't access it and won't create the zip file. The file that usually stays open all the time is my TODO list, that is updated several times a day , so usually gets printed, and updated( adding or deleting entries), without closing it.
I am in the process of writing a win forms desktop app in VB.net that employs user data in the form of rich text, stored internally as an object and then serialised to an XML file for persistent storage purposes.
To create the user data (the application's "document" it might be called), I have written a seperate app that tries to be a word processor and then saves the text in my XML format that can then be opened and used in the main app.
Is there a way I can use Word to do this? Perhaps by writing an add-in or template? Just to clarify, the format of the rich text would just be a table, I then need to save this in my XML format, or save the text as my object then serialize it to file.
I want to create an application which acts like a file cabinet, where in i can store all my files viz. xls, doc, msg. So that i do not have to look for my files in hard drive, i can open an application and retrieve it from there. My application will be a standalone application whose data is stored on the location i mention in the application. Is it possible to build an application like this.
I have a favorites application which makes files corresponding with the favourites, but with the windows filesystem, I cannot create files with the characters: <> /\ : ? * ". This means that I cannot create favorites with HTTP: in them, which kind of ruins the point of having a favorites viewer. How I could convert the http: to another expression and save it, and then when the project loads make it into http: again. I have thought about using Regex to replace the expressions, but I do not know how to do that in a listbox.
Here is my code: Imports System.IO Public Class Form1 Dim info As IO.FileInfo Private Function MakeFave() <<<<<<<<<<< Code to convert the http: into the expression for the HTTP: (say http&&%) [Code] .....
I am writing a small application that will display some info to my end user. I have another program that the end user will have open while running my appplication. What I am trying to do is have my application launch itself (and maintain positioning if other app location changes) and "tether" itself to the other application.Ideally the top left of my application would attach to the top right of the other application.I have tried for countless hours working with the GetWindowPos API but the values returned are either all zeros or it just doesn't work.I do a Try/Catch to see if the other app is running and I fetch the Handle of the process. This works fine. Then I try to get the positioning of this process and set my .Left property to the returned RECT's .Left property. no dice. This is Visual Basic 2005 ExpressOther application is a PuTTY window that is not a fullscreen app.
I am developing an application and I use a 3rd party library which is basically Native excel. The problem is that this library does not implement an event which is able to notify me when the value of a cell value changes.
We would like to know if there are any recommended tools in .NET that can scan through a VB .NET project & do an analysis. It should report on the Lines Of Code, provide no. of Routines, No. of 3rd party Tools, No. of Variables, Forms Diagrams, No. of Classes etc.
I am trying to write an application that will get the X and Y coordinates of a 3rd party application like Notepad or Word in VB.NET, but I am unsure how to accomplish this. I know some VB.NET but I am still a novice.
I want to read the data from the following website:[URL]..I have attached an image the details, from which I wish to read the data: getting the details as mentioned above?
And also let me know how the data is supposed to be extracted every time when required.I will be using this XML data in VB10. This will simply allow me to create a widget that will show me the cricket score update that frequently.
I am trying to read text from a 3rd party application. I can create a catalogue of all possible letter variations. I can store every possible character I encounter as a small bmp, or perhaps as an array/matrix of pixel values. For example:
the letter "I" could be represented in a 10x5 array or matrix as above. Where x represents a wildcard pixel value, but O represents the expected/pre-defined RGB value.
I want to search specific areas of the screen, pixel by pixel where I expect to find the information I'm after. And convert this to usable information. What method gives the best trade-off for simplicity and speed? And how can I implement this method? How do I search for a bmp within a bmp at specific coordinates?
what third party software is around that I can use in my VB web application to 'call home' to my website to get a registration key.I saw something that did this a while back but can't remember what it was called.
