How do i make a program that can compress files, just like programs like winrar do? Every time i try via something as simple as text editor changing something, then changing it back, then it wont work anymore. Any suggestions on how i can make one of these kinds of compression programs?
View 9 RepliesI'm making a presentation program. It's a bit like PowerPoint, but less complicated and for a different purpose.
All files used in the presentation (like images, texts and sounds) should be put into a single 'file-package'. This package should later be opened by my program, which should be able to use the files from the package. (Just like PowerPoint creates a single file with all images and sounds included, which can be loaded in PowerPoint on a different computer.)
Actual compression for the file is not really needed. It could be sort of like a tar-file.

View 4 RepliesI want to have a backup feature which takes about 7 txt files and compresses/packs them into one file. Then if required at a later stage I can unpack all 7 files from the packed file. I do not need any compression as such just to make one file from 7, then 7 from from that one, if you understand what I mean. I have read there are some native libraries in .NET Framework 2.0 called DeflateStream and GZipStream. Can these be used?

View 11 Repliesi am trying to make a small program to encrypt files using AES, and then have the password from the AES encrypted using RSA for its use of public keys. i've got the AES part working fine and i found a good RSA tutorial here url....but after i encrypt the AES password (which is saved in a .txt file) using RSA, then i try to decrypt it again, it comes out as an empty .txt file!

I have other apps from other software companies that have more documents than mine, and their entire application is around 50mb. What am I missing here? How do I accomplish the same thing? Does it have to do with the Property Settings of the .rtf files called: "Build Action" and "Copy to Output Directory"? I set my "Build Action" to "Content" for all my .rtf files, and set "Copy to Output Directory" to "Copy Always".

Once the program is installed i wanted to make it a default opener for .txt files, so i clicked openwith ->Choose default program and then i was asked to show the location of the .exe. It seems like the .exe of my installed program doesn't exist. where the .exe is on a windows7 or tell me of another way of makeing that program the default opener.

I am new to Visual Basic. I have Visual Basic 2010 Express. I am planning to make a program that can download files from a website to put on an SD Card to Soft Mod, or hack it. I want it so that the user clicks on a radio button based on what System Menu their Wii is running on. There is currently, System Menu 4.0 or less, System Menu 4.2, and System Menu 4.3.
They also have to choose a region from a List Box. The current options are:
Region U (Americas)
Region K (Korean)
Region J (Japanesse)
Region E (European)
I also want it so that the user can choose where to download the installation files for the Wii soft Mod.
I want to have a button that when the user clicks on it, a pop up asks them where they want to download the files to appear, once they choose a location, i want it to download a file based on what they chose and i also want it so that it tells them what to do with the files and where to put them.

I'm looking for ways to do compression and decompression in 7z format via code in VB.NET and C#. Is there any library or .Net code for this purpose?
I know there are GZipStream and DeflateStream in .Net but I want 7z format for better compression ratio.
I'm currently working on a utility software, file compression, with VB.Net. And using an open source library to compress and decompress files - DotNetZip - and already running.
My friend told to make it unique and not traditional, that I make the output compressed files cannot be opened with other compression software. Now my question is... is it possible that way? Using an open source library which the output format is ".zip"?
I first thought that changing the file extension of the compressed file to unknown format so it can't be opened when you try to decompress it, unfortunately, using the "Open With..." function of windows it could still be decompressed.
Is it really possible? OR what other features can I add that WinZIP doesnt have yet? I compared my work to WinZip since the same output is ".zip".

I would like help to compress a file with zlib. I have have searched google for ages and found losts of examples but i can't get any to work in VB 2008 Express. I am also not sure which version of the dll to use as there seems to be a few for VB.Can someone post some code that will work in VB 2008 so i can see how to do it and also a link to the dll that you used.
