VS 2010 - Finishing An Assignment For Introduction To VB Class?

I'm trying to finish an assignment for my Introduction to Visual Basic class. I have to program an application that will determine if a word entered has consecutive letters in the alphabet as a substring of itself. Three examples are T"HI""RST"Y, AF"GH"ANI"ST"AN, and "STU""DE"NT.This is what I have so far:[code]....
However, it doesn't run properly. It says I'm trying to refer to a location that is out of bounds, although I don't see why.

I am working on a programing project for my college class. The program is working fine except when it graphs the data on the panel it flickers and doesn't always do it smoothly. I'm sure there are more efficent ways of doing this, but this is what my class specifically wants. Also, it must run on the timer otherwise I would have made it calculate without delay. Here is the

I am new to Visual Basic. The only programming I have played with thus far is Perl and some Python in script writing for Paint Shop Pro. (if that is acually programming) I found a tutorial on About.com "from the ground up" with a link to download VB 2010 and when I tried to install the vb_web file I got this error:C:usersuserAppDataLocalTempSit24308reboot.ini cannot be opened. I did a computer search and found this file was not in the Temp folder. The install just hung and I could not cancel or retry. I shut down from task manager. When I looked in add emove there was not a Visual Basic listed. I couldn't tell if there were any other files that were added even though VB is not listed. There seems to be more C++ files (which came installed on my laptop) but I'm not sure if there are more of these C++ files.
I have searched for a week and cannot find a tutorial of how to install this program. I see VB 5, VB 6 and VB 2008. I also see a file for Microsoft Web Platform Installer, but it does not say if I need to download and install this file in order to download Visual Basic 2010 Express. I keep going in circles with my searches and always end up back where I started which is at the Visual Basic 2010 Express download page.

I have a custom class that simply contains a public variable X.Let's say I have two instances of the class, A and B.If I execute an assignment operator, such as:A = B then I want A.X equal to the VALUE of B.X.But, I'm pretty sure that this will just assign B to the variable A.Assigning pointers, in C++ lingo.I looked in the VB.NET docs, which state that "The operator can be overloaded only as a relational comparison operator, not as an assignment operator."

I have a school assignment and I just started to learn VB. Until now I/ve done pretty good however I encountered a problem which I can't solve in this assignment. So, I would ask if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong?

In class i saved my program in with load of other test programs for the same assignment and got everything mixed up i finally figured out what was what and loaded the program in Visual Basic. Now my program doesn't recognize one of my forms when i try to access the design view of it. I hit run for the hell of it and the program runs with errors of course but the form1 "the missing one" shows up with all the buttons etc and i can use it.

I have a form to email every day that compiles from a VB script I wrote in MS Word 2003. Each day I have text that I need to place in the Introduction area in the email. I usually do this manually by copying the text then pasting it into the Introduction box since the text is usually just snippets of emails and have no common pattern. I would like to have a way to be able to select my text and copy to the clipboard, then run my script and have the contents of the clipboard pasted into the Introduction by the script so the email can then be sent.
Everything works perfectly if I place static text for the Introduction. I just need a way to be able to place the contents of the clipboard into the Introduction.

I'm studying VB 2010 at uni and struggling with this assignment, I'm stressing now with one week to go before its time to hand it in and still not knowing how to do it (even though i've read the whole textbook!)
I have copied the instructions and the files I have been given.
1 List all of the data from Teams.txt in a Listbox. Include suitable headings.
2 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox (use the same Listbox as in 1 above). Include suitable headings. Note that you cannot assume that the file contains only results for the first 3 weeks of the season. Your program should be able to process a results file with more or fewer results.
3 List all of the data from Results.txt in the Listbox. However, in this case the actual team names should be output (your program will need to get this data from Teams.txt. The data should be formatted so that it is aligned correctly. Include suitable headings.

When I start typing a variable (or whatever), VB pops up a little box with all possible variables starting with the letters I already typed. It's really smart!
However this option has somehow been disabled. How do I enable it again?

I have a line shape which I am using as a straight 'finishing line'. As the program runs an identically shaped line shape appears. I am a little confused from where and how it is appearing, as I only have the one line shape. Also, on some runs of the program 'trails' of the cars that are racing across the screen remain.Are these issues something simple I can fix?

I've been applying some recursive techniques to the second version of my app. This recursive procedure simply iterates through all nodes in a tree view and tests whether the text in the "department text box" matches the text name of a particular node. If there is a match, then the user's name, stored in the "name" variable, is added as a node to the node that has the same name as the department text box text.

I want to read a number of items from a file and then associate each of those items with a new button at run-time, so that when the user clicks one of the buttons I can display some information about that item.Can I use a LIST to manage these buttons and items? Haven't coded in a while, and ran into a wall when setting up my program data structure
So I have something like this in a class file;

Public Stuff as Integer
Public Stuff1 as String

I want to structure my program this way, what's the best way to go about that?
I want to access multiple data types in the same array from within a class, as it should be a subset of my base class etc... and want to be able to change the size of the array
Or is this class array within class nesting a dead end?

If I create a DLL using VB 2010 express can it be used by previous versions of of .Net (3.5, 2.0)? Will the DLL use .Net 4.0 components, which is what I want. I don't see a way to force that to be the case.

I'm having an odd problem with an ASP.Net page.I'm getting an object not set error message when assigning a string literal to a variable. [code] And here is the code that the error is pointing to. The last line in this fragment is the line 10 the error is complaining about [code] It seems it fails on accessing any reference type, even if it is declared locally in the load function. I originally found the problem when Request. IsSecureConnection was nulling out on me. I eventually discovered I could replace it with the above code and fail in the same way. The problem does not always happen. It seems to be triggered by publishing an update from Visual Studio, or when I head home for the day and the server sits idle all night. One or two app pool recycles seems to clear it up, and the page functions correctly. I've been doing desktop development for a few years, but I'm fairly new to web development.So maybe this is something obvious I've got configured wrong. I'm currently using .Net 4 on IIS 6. That code is in a foreach over an IEnumerable(of XElement). The stack trace still points to the string assignment, but all other stack traces are spot on, so I don't think it's a bad pdb.Also, when the error occurred this time, no amount of recycling the app pool or stopping and starting it would fix the error. I finally got it working again by switching the application to a different app pool.

If I put:
variableName = namecombobox.selectedItem
or
Dim variablename as type = namecombobox.SelectedIndex
Visual studio gives me the error: "Option Strict disallows conversions from object to string.
I can fix this by putting:
variableName = convert.ToString(namecombobox.SelectedItem)
Are all values contained in a combobox automatically treated as a non-string even when they are string values (in this case "Male" & "Female") and what is the correct way of assigning the value selected in a combobox to a variable?
