VS 2010 Waiting For A Screen Re-draw To Finish Before Continuing?

Oct 16, 2011

I'm writing a simple program that takes a screenshot of tab1 of the GUI, then takes a screenshot of tab2, then tab3, etc. I've got the screenshot code down pat, but the problem with my current code is that it's taking the screenshot of each tab before the screen has a chance to fully redraw, so the resulting images are screwed up.Is there a way to get the program to wait for each tab (and all the controls in it) to be fully visible before each screenshot is taken?I'd like to avoid using a timer for this, as the screen redraw speed will vary depending on the user's computer, and the contents of each tab, etc.[code]

VS 2010 ComboBox And Corresponding Data

May 6, 2012

I have my project connected to an Access database, and I was able to sync the data to vb just fine. But on one form, I want to be able to sort through records (there are 15) via the ComboBox. Right now when I select another description from the drop down list, the corresponding data doesn't show on the form with it (the rest of the previous record is stuck there). The Binding Navigator works though. Here is how my form looks:

Filter ComboBox Data [2010 Express]?

Jan 7, 2011

I have started a form application using visual studio 2010 express, vb programming. I'm using Access as my database.My goal is to have ComboBox1 display a ProjectID and ComboBox2 display a TestNumber. Once the Test Number is selected I want my textboxes in the form to display fields from the row that the selected Test Number is in.I have 2 tables set up right now "Projects" and "TestData". The "Projects" table has a [ProjectID] field, the remaining fields are just misc. project data. The "TestData" table also has the [ProjectID] field, and then the [TestNumber] field, then the remaining fields are misc. data.

Filling [ProjectID] in textbox1 is easy, in the properties I select DataSource from the Projects table, display [ProjectID] field. Where I'm having troubles is ComboBox2 displaying the TestNumber from the other "TestData" table. If I select that field, it fills the ComboBox with EVERY TestNumber there is. So for Project 1 there is a test 1... over 500 projects, that combobox lists 500 Test 1's, no way to tell what project it belongs to...How do I make ComboBox2 only display Test Numbers that pertain to the Project number selected in ComboBox1?Using this code I can get it to work:

Dim ProjectNo, SQLString As String
Dim dtTableData As New DataTable()
Dim dbDataAdapter As OleDbDataAdapter

[code]....

I also imported system.data.oledb Problem with this code is it will only filter data in ComboBox 2 but when you make your selection from ComboBox2 it won't activate the row so none of my databinding textboxes fill anymore. Before the code/query is ran it fills up the textboxes perfectly after every selection I just have no idea what project that report number belongs to because the whole field is displayed in the dropdown. I can fill the form with ComboBoxes and they display the corresponding row data because I use a "datasource" instead of textbox "databindings" but I don't want to use 20 comboboxes as my entry form...

VS 2010 - Using ComboBox To Update / Edit And View Saved Data

Apr 5, 2012

I am trying to use the combobox to update/edit/view the saved data (in contact form) from sql server.

My Load_Combobox (in contact form):
Private Sub Load_Combobox()
'Type
cboType.Items.Add("Director")
cboType.Items.Add("Principal")
cboType.Items.Add("Project Manager")
cboType.Items.Add("Technical Manager")
[Code] .....

The problem now is when I saved a record into sql server (EG Technical Manager) and try to view back the saved data, it always show the first item (Director) in combobox. But, my sql server has saved is "Technical Manager" for that saved record.

VS 2010 Populate Textbox With Excel Data Based On Combobox Selection?

Nov 29, 2011

Visual Basic 2010 Express: I have a form with a combobox that is populated with the names of locations from a datagrid which in turn was imported at run-time (Form_Load) from an Excel database. The Excel database (and the datagrid) also stores the information for addresses and phone numbers for their respective locations.

What I would like to do is have the phone number and address text boxes automatically be updated with the proper corresponding data when the user selects a location from the combobox. Whether the text boxes are updated from the datagrid or Excel database is not a concern; I'm mainly looking for whichever way is simpler.

Add Item To ListView While Continuing Other Code?

Jan 22, 2011

I have coded a low-level mouse hook. Each time the user clicks (let's say) the left mouse button, a custom event gets fired which is then handled by a form in my application. On the form is a ListView control with the following columns: Time - Application - Button.

I want that ListView to contain the last 1000 mouseclicks made, so each time the CustomMouseClickEvent gets fired, I check for the itemcount of the ListView, I add an item to the ListView and I resize all three columns. Problem is however that this extremely delays the processing of the mouseclick messages.

I'm wondering if it's possible to raise the CustomMouseClickEvent and then handle it in my application while at the same time the mouseclick message is passed on to the next hook to get processed by the systen?

Wait For Batch File To Close Before Continuing?

Feb 1, 2012

I'm trying to run a batch file via VB and I need to wait for it to complete/exit before progressing. The issue I believe I am having is that when a batch file is executed, it opens cmd.exe and not the batch file.

This is what I am executing with VB
My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "PingCheckmachines.txt")
FileCopy(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "machines.txt", My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "PingCheckmachines.txt")
Dim psi As New ProcessStartInfo(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "PingCheckgo.bat")
psi.RedirectStandardError = True
psi.RedirectStandardOutput = True
psi.CreateNoWindow = False .....

The problem I am having is that it will just delete ping.bat before it completes.
How do I go about monitoring the process from the batch file I call. Then once it exits, continue with the script?

VS 2010 ComboBox Dependent On Another ComboBox

Aug 22, 2011

I am having issues when trying to populate a combobox that is dependent on another combobox. Populating the first combobox works as expected but attempting to set the value member or display member properties of the first combo box cause its selected index changed event to fire. That event seems to fire before the first combobox is fully loaded. The issue is then raised when trying to populate the second combo box, since it is dependent on having a valid value member to complete the dynamic sql statement, and at that point in time, there is no value member.

I cant imagine that this is difficult but searching hasnt yielded me any results. Should I be using a different event? What is the right way to do this?

I have a simple workaround in place - not allowing the second combo box to attempt to populate unless the first combobox has an index greater than zero but this hack is no good since it clearly prevents the user from selecting the first element in the first combo box.

Private Sub SpecialsForm_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim sql As String
Dim dt As New DataTable
