how to make a server, and let my program connect to that server. My program is on books, people can go through the list of books and "favourite them". Then in a window I open I can see the most favourite overall etc. How would I do this, what type of server (srry im not pro on servers at all).

View 1 RepliesIm trying to make a basic Client/Server. The server can handle multiple clients and each client can send /recieve messages from the server.It works fine with just 1 client. but as soon as i connect with a second client. The first one no longer works. Anything sent from the first client is ignored by the server and when running the server in debug mode it gets errors from the client 1 stream.
Its as if the server will only hold one stream at a time and whenever another client joins the other streams are shut but the new client works fine. Even though i never close a stream.

Edit: FINALLY FOUND IT! Stupid mistake i forgot to put the ClientN variable up by one for each new client.So i was creating a new space in the array but erasing the first slot for the new client
I have a server which has around 300+ users on it. Though the problem is that its coded in VB6, and if somebody has a bad ping, everybody has a bad ping. I need a tunneling server which will tunnel the incoming and outgoing connections and make there ping appear to be 0 in the server. Client to Server, Server to Client.

With a Windows form that I would like to be a DDE server. I know that DDE is not natively supported in VS 2010/11 so I'm using the NDde.dll to add DDE functionality to this program.
Objective: Create a windows form to act as a Pop-up notification that has a textbox field. This textbox field must be selectable in order for users to copy a text string to the clipboard and paste into another program that does not support DDE.
Overview: A phone system has an on-screen agent program that triggers a pop-up form, the DDE Server, when an incomming call is presented. When the agent accepts the call the agent program, acting as a DDE Client, registers a DDE session, Application=phnserver and Topic=callerid. Then communicates an "OnExecute" command to the DDE Server followed by a number string. This string should be presented on the pop-up form in a text box. Once the call is completed the agent application will issue a command to close the pop-up form.

View 1 RepliesI have a simple app (coded in VB 2008 Express Edition) that uses an SQL Server database (in .mdf format) that works fine on my own machine. I created the database in SQL Server on this machine. I added the DB as a data source and it works fine. But when packaged this app (ClickOnce) and installed this app on a different machine the installer tries to download MS SQL Server Express. Obviously this is because SQL Server is a prerequisite and is not installed on the other machine. But just as obvious is the fact that the download will take a long time to complete before my code even starts installing.
My question is this: Is there an SQL Server reference (using Add Reference...) that I can add to avoid this? I suspect the application just needs one or two DLL files from SQL Server. Downloading the whole product seems like overkill. Is there a way I can included the needed files in my app to avoid this long download process?

It ran without any error but when I opened SSMS, I could not see my file attached to the server. Also, I tried to make a connection, but it says file does not exist but when I tried to re-run the above code, it says File already exists.Something wrong with my way of doing it? I want to see it attached with the instance of my SQL Server Express 2005, using SSMS.
