making a very simple detailed listview visually, not programatically. I have now added a listview to the form and added the columns I need. But how do I add rows to the list? When I add items to the list it seems to just add some sort of category or something. So can anybody tell me how to make a simple detailed list or show me a tutorial on how to do it?

I am trying my hand at .Net 2010. I played around with vb6 for years but now it has come time to do .Net. So I am making a Explorer type app where I have a treeview on the left and a listview on the right. I have all that working fine I now want to add icons to the files listed in the listview. My app calls function in a class file and it populates the listviewHow do you add (dynamically) the icons from the files shown? Below is the function in the class file I have, not the form file.
Public Function ListFoldersFiles(ByVal path As String, ByVal lvTemp As ListView, Optional ByVal sExtFilter As String = "*.*")
' Create a reference to the current directory.

I'm making a custom control suited for handling passwords. I have created a control that inherits from a text box and I have implemented a lot of things so far. But what i want to do now is create a system so that when a user types It will display his last character typed for a X amount of time. Is there a way to turn only selected characters into password characters and still be able to get the password text from the Text property ?

I'm having a very difficult task here. I need to analyze a certain text and find the minimum number of characters it needs to become a palindrome. The text will not have any special characters or numbers, just alphabet letters. Now, I've made some progression and have tried a lot of situations correctly, but in some situations I've gotten wrong outputs on the MINIMUM number of characters needed. I've tested the below texts:

I have made a program that makes and saves every possibility of characters under 7 characters (so far), and it takes about 10 mins to make one million possibilities... this is about 1800 possibilities per second (differering on different CPU's and RAM's)How can i make it more efficient, because i have made some basic calculations, and if i wanted 7 digits of every possible character combination, it will take about 7 billion possibilities... If i had 10 mins per million, that is a long time..

how to make a program that makes all the possible characters and numbers (A-Z & a-z & 0-9) from 5-20 characters, and put them in a list or something?
Someone may think this is bruteforce hacking, but I don't see why I should do that? If I want to find a password on 13 characters, it would be: 62^13 = 200028539268669788905472 possibilities... in other words... it would take forever!

I'm populating a DataTable from a MySQL-server. One of the columns contains norwegian characters (, , ), but they don't display correct in my datatable. I've been searching google for some answer, but I haven't found any. I've never had this problem before. Actually I'm not quite sure exactly where the problem is. It's either in the datatable or in the MySQL .NET-connector as far as I can tell. If I do the same query in the MySQL Query Browser, the characters are shown correctly, so it can't be the server.

I am retrieving string values from a table and then encode each term to make a httpwebrequest to an api. It works fine and the terms allow for foreign characters like japanese/arabic/chinese etc and these are inserted fine. The problem occurs when some of these terms contain weird characters and that is when the request is bad. The only reason it is bad xml and the template I follow gets invalid are when these characters are present. I use the
system.securityelement.escape
And also
httputility.htmlencode
As part of my cleanup. One of the weird characters ends up appearing as a space but it is not since the trim(term) does not work and when I look at the xml in visual studio it looks like an ' &' with arrow pointing up attached to it. It does not appear after I pasted it here.It appears as a line feed or carriage return and I have tried to remove that too. Anyway is there some way I can ensure that these sort of characters are removed and if I were to use the binary values like <32 invalid, will foreign characters then get excluded.
temp = temp.replace(vbCr, "")
temp = temp.replace(vbLf, "")
temp = SecurityElement.Escape(temp)

I need to parse an alphanumeric string leaving the characters "0-9", ".", "/" and space & remove everything else. I use "[^0-9./ ]" as my regex string and it works well. But now I have a couple other conditions that I dont know how to handle with my regex string. I actually only want to keep the "." character if it falls between two digit characters (ie. 3.5), otherwise remove it. And also I need to replace any "-" characters with a space if it falls between two digit characters (ie. 2-1), otherwise remove it.

Now I want only these links to remain in the listbox and to remove the quotes and rl around it. I tried using regex but it didn't worked out for me.

If I set the Text property of a RTB to a string that has CrLf's in it, it seems the RTB reduces the CrLf's to a single character & screws up the positioning to set the SelectionStart property.So, for example, if I know the position of a character in the original string & I set the Selection Start value to that position, the selection highlighting will be off by 1 character if the start position is preceded by a CrLf & off by 2 characters if preceded by 2 CrLf's, etc.So how can I determine the correct position to specify my SelectionStart value?
