I have developed a form in Visual Basic and I need to export the form definition to another language that supports forms but does not have a form builder. From there I will change object names so that they match this other language.
I seem to remember in Visual Basic a number of years ago forms have a .rcs file that you can open with a text editor and view information about the form and all the controls on it. For example the form name and dimensions are listed. Also included is information about controls such as control name, width, height, and so on.
In my current version of Visual Studio I see a .resx file that has a header followed by a lot of binary information.
Is there any way to view the information as I've described it?
I'm trying to use a .pdf file I've added to my project but can't figure out how to get it to show using the webbrowser control. Here is what I'm using to call it:
So i created resource file New --> new file --> Native Resource Template Then added icons with custom id, like "x", "u_100", .. so i understand, what the files (in my case icons) is.. And i saved as 32-bit resource file (*.res) So i have a question, how can i use these files inside of resource file in my apps? i know how to add icons in to my app.. Me.Icon = New Icon(C:/icon.ico)
I have a resource file that I include in my shared code library that has all of my re-usable classes in it (all the resources go into their own namespace). Now, what is the best practice regarding resources... should I include them in the same DLL, or should I have a seperate resource DLL and/or are there any benefits from seperating them out into their own file.
Some how I lost the capability to see a selected file in a WebBroswer on my userform.I took a functioning program, and well, made it non-functioning. I'm a professional, do not try this at home. This was the original code.
Option Explicit On Imports System.IO Imports System.IO.FileInfo
MVC 3, VB.NET. I have a form in my app that gets basic information from the user and then allows them to upload a resume. I am accomplishing this right now by using a redirect to a different form that's only purpose is to select the file for uploading and then submit it.. Sloppy in my opinion.. I have tried to do it from the same form but the file is being lost on submit.. While I am not certain of it I believe it is because I am not using the correct syntax in the form to handle the file.[code]
The company has a Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate project that is written in Visual Basic. The project has several strings in the resources file (Resources.resx). One of those strings (VersionSuffix) contains "" when we are distributing a normal version of our product and "BETA" when we are distributing a beta version of our product. Most of the time we distribute a normal version of our product. Therefore, most of the time the resource string VersionSuffix contains "".
Recently, we attempted to distribute a beta version of our product. Therefore, we changed resource string VersionSuffix from "" to "BETA". However, it quickly became apparent that the resource string VersionSuffix was being used as the default value for several control properties in the form designer. For example, if I draw a rich textbox on a form then file FORMNAME.Designer.vb will contain the following.
Me.RichTextBox1.Location = New System.Drawing.Point(286, 306)
Me.RichTextBox1.Name = "RichTextBox1"
Me.RichTextBox1.Size = New System.Drawing.Size(134, 33)
We are unable to find anything anywhere that indicates that this resource string should be used as the default value for control properties. Therefore, we have no idea why this resource string is being used for this purpose. We would like to change the control property assignments in the designer from Me.RichTextBox1.Text = Global.PROJECTNAME.My.Resources.Resources.VersionSuffix
Me.RichTextBox1.Text = "" However, we don't know why these strange assignments are being made. Therefore, as soon as someone adds another control the problem will most likely return. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to prevent it from happening again?
i have datagridview populated with stock code, name and description.And i have docked my datagridview to the bottom. so whenever the form is resized, the bottom section will be occupied completely with the datagridview.But i want to display one extra empty column and multiple empty rows to completely fill in the datagridview.The extra empty column width will be adjusted to the right end side of datagridview.And the no of empty rows will be generated based on how many is required to fill up to the bottomSo that i can create datagridview with full column and row even though some columns or rows are empty.
When I open VB projects in Visual Studio 2005 and attempt to view a form view designer I have started getting "File Download - Security Warning" Message prompting a .tmp file in the location of my project. If I close all open designers and rebuild the project I am then able to open the designers OK.I saw a suggestion to 'restore file associations' in Visual Studio and tried this but with no success.
I have a good batch of PNGs in my resources (with alpha transparencies) that I use on various controls in my program. However, I would like to be able to use some of those same images as form icons.
How can I convert the PNGs into a usable format so they can be assigned to the forms icon on the fly?
can anyone please explain to me how I get the file path to an embedded video resource file I have?Currently I know how to get this while debugging, but I am unsure how to refer to it when built.It needs to work no matter where the application files are.[code]
I have my file imported into the application. And when i try to include it into my application.(EX: My.Resource) It wont work. It wont show up the Data.txt. How would i make it so i can import my file into the source and use the file to
I'm trying to output a resource file to a physical file on my hard drive. Here is what I have so far from researching but I think I'm doing it wrong.
Dim ms As New System.IO.MemoryStream(My.Resources.File1) Here is how I would do it in VB6, but I'm trying to catch up with the times and move on to the new stuff.
Dim c() As Byte Open Sysdir & "mswinsck.ocx" For Binary Access Write As #3 c = LoadResData(103, "Custom")
I have a VB project which has a list of forms, one of the Forms resx file doesn't contain information about controls and seems to be corrupted, now I want to regenerate the resource files again for the form, how can I do that?
Lets say I have a multi ligual application where I have 3 resources files for each form 1.Form4.fr.resx 2.Form4.fil.resx 3.Form4.resx I have saved some strings in each file , can i read the resource from code where I can specify the file want. Lets say I want to read the .fr file only and when the user chooses another language I choose the other - I am saving not the controsl text, I am saving msgs.
I have a good batch of PNGs in my resources (with alpha transparencies) that I use on various controls in my program. However, I would like to be able to use some of those same images as form icons.How can I convert the PNGs into a usable format so they can be assigned to the forms icon on the fly?*_users is the name of the png in this example*I thought this would work, but it doesntMe.Icon = CType(My.Resources._users, System.Drawing.Icon)and also this does not workMe.Icon = My.Resources._users
I need to refer to some strings using an "indirect string" in the registry. It should be in this form:
@filename,resource
MSDN: "If the resource value is zero or greater, the number becomes the index of the string in the binary file. If the number is negative, it becomes a resource ID."How can I find out either of these numbers for my resources that only have names in VB? I also need the ID/index for the exe's icon.
I'm creating a form, but this form will be fully generated by code in a non-design fashion at run time. So i'm using the designer to create the form, but I will be copying out all the fields and the initializecomponents into my internal form class that will be loaded and run at run-time. This means, that I cannot have a "MyForm.Resx" file to retain images for buttons and such. But, granted that this form will exist within the entirety of my ClassLibrary Project, I figured I would load these images into the My.Resources for the class library. (I"ve set them to embed them in the Resx file, which helps to import the ICO as a Bitmap).
now, here is the resource.designer.vb
Namespace My.Resources '''<summary> '''A strongly-typed resource class, for looking up localized strings, etc. '''</summary>
Is it possible to make sort of an installer where you have your files you wan to install in the Project resurces file and then copy and paste them into a directory?
Right now i have a line of code, in vb, that calls a text file, like this:
Dim fileReader As String fileReader = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("data5.txt")
data5.txt is a resource in my application, however the application doesn't run because it can't find data5.txt. I'm pretty sure there is another code for finding a .txt file in the resource that i'm overlooking, but i can't seem to figure it out.
I have mdi application, on main form which is mdi container and has a tree view. i open the child form on afterselect even of treeview. the issue i'm facing that i open the form but focus remain on tree view until i click on the the form. my question is how i can give focus to form rather it stays on treeview. i tried frm.focus also activatemdichild(frm) no sucess.
I want to add an xls file as resource to my vb.net project.
I added the existing file and when i write the code which will help the user to download the file , i am not able to see the resource listed in the dropdown .
Dim b() As Byte = My.Resources.abc System.IO.File.WriteAllBytes("C:abc.xls", b) MsgBox("abc downloaded in C:", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Project")
I added a rtf file as a resource in my vs 2008 app. However, when I try to run the program and load the rtf file into the richtextbox I get an error about not being able to find the file. I created the namespace for my.resources and am using the following code to load the resource rtf file:
I have added two images as a resource in my project. I'd need to copy these images to a certain folder when the program is started. I'm not familiar about using resources, so far I have managed to set a picturebox to show one of these images like this:
Dim res() As String = GetType(Form1).Assembly.GetManifestResourceNames() pBoxTest.Image = New System.Drawing.Bitmap( _ GetType(Form1).Assembly.GetManifestResourceStream(res(0)))
But I don't know how to get the url of that image so that I could copy it from it's url to another place.If I now try to find out the location of that picturebox's image I get an empty string: MsgBox(pBoxTest.ImageLocation)This should work in any computer where the program is run so of course I can not just hardcode the path of this resource.
