IDE :: Visual Studio Will Not Compile?
Jun 16, 2010I recently installed Visual Studio 2008 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 machine.I also had Visual Studio 2010 with .NET 4.0 on this machine. For some reason, in either VS I am not able to compile my solutionI get a ton of basic messages about Type 'Guid' is not defined.,Type 'Hashtable' is not defined, etc..I have went as far as uninstalling .NET 4.0 and VS 2010 as well as uninstalling VS 2008 and then re-installing and I get the same thing.

Mar 25, 2009Stupid question, but how do I get access to this Explorer? The says: To create a performance session for Windows client application:
(1) Open the solution in the Visual Studio IDE.
(2) On the <B>Analyze</B> menu, click <B>Launch Performance Wizard</B>.
(3) From the <B>Which of the following available targets would you like to profile?</B> drop-down list, select the name of the application that you want to profile, and then click <B>Next</B>. You can add more binaries later.
(4) Accept the default Sampling profiling method, and then click Next.
(5) Click <B>Finish</B>.
Only problem is that there is no <B>Analyze</B> menu in the IDE.
File I/O And Registry :: Zip Large Number Of Files?
Aug 28, 2009I am using zipforge.net to archive files in a small backup program I am creating. Everything works fine however if I try to archive a large number of files the process of zipping them gets slower the further along in the job it gets.
Example: I have a directory that contains a little over 100,000 files in it. Each file is only about 200k of text. When I use the zipforge zip class it starts zip'ing very quickly but as it gets about 40% of the way through the directory it starts to slow down... at about 60% its working at a snails pace.
Memory usage for my solution also goes up proportionate to the archive file size as it grows. Currently it takes around 26hours to backup this directory which only contains 4 gigs worth of information.
If I use a program like winzip I can zip the folder in less than an hour. I am thinking there has to be a way to write to the end of the zip file without having to open it every time or without keeping it open. My backup software scans the specified folder and writes each file path and name into a text file. Then it reads the text file line by line and passes the path + file info to the zipforge addfile().

The install script that creates the stored procedure is 1500 lines in length and has been formatted in the way VS 2010 requires multi-line literals to be in:

Feb 22, 2011When I'm in VS2008, and I go to File > Open Project/Solution, it won't let me select a .vbp file type when I have it set to Objects of type "All Project Files (*.sln; *.dsw; *.vcw; *.rptproj; *.dwp" (it looks like it's cut off at that point). Why can't I open a .vbp file with Visual Studio 2008?

May 25, 2011Today I noticed that Visual Studio 2008 always treats a file as if it was a component or a form if this file contains a definition of one.This means that it always opens the designer by default. I think this behavior is very annoying, because a file containing a class that derives from form or control does not have to be an actual form or control and I want to edit the source by default.

Get Visual Studio To Recognize Multiple Project Resource Files?
Aug 17, 2011I have a Windows project in Visual Studio 2010 in which I store all images in the project's resource file that Visual Studio created for me. However, it's getting cluttered and I'd like to separate images into multiple resource files if possible. I created a new resource file, but Visual Studio doesn't recognize it when I go to the form designer and try to change an image. The only file that comes up under the Project resource files available are MyProjectResources.resx. The one that I just created isn't there.

I am currently restricted to sending multiple messages due to restrictions elsewhere in the system. There is a noticable delay in responding to the request at the other end (the receiver) but this is outside my control. I am trying to ensure that the process of sending is as efficient as possible (external factors notwithstanding).
