Is There A Visual Studio Add-in For Populating Resource Files From Strings In A Code File

Mar 12, 2011

I'm maintaining a WinForms application which was not written using any development patters conducive to localizing the classes in the project which were not directly associated with forms, or the code-behind partials of the forms.Thus, there is MessageBox() code with English text in it in almost every code file. I'd like to find a tool which will "scrape" those strings from the code, insert the strings in a resource file, and substitute a call to the resource with the substituted string in a comment.

Visual Studio 2010 - .net Application Works With Files Dragged Onto The Exe But Crashes If There's A Space In The File's Path?

Jun 15, 2011

I'm developing an application in vb.net. You drag any type of file onto the exe, and a window pops up with some options for the file, then it saves the file to a different location, works some SQL magic, etc. It works great for the most part. The only issue I've found is that if the path of the file contains any spaces, the application will crash immediately with the error window:[URl]..I'm using: Private filename as String = Command$ This is located right inside my form's class declaration, not within a sub/function.Without this line, my program runs fine (although useless, without accessing the file).I've also tried (I think this was it, I don't have the code with me at the moment): Private filename as String = Environment.CommandLine So, in vb.net, is there a way to drag a file onto an exe and use that path name, even if there are spaces in the path name?

Making A Program In Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate?

Mar 16, 2011

OK, So I am making a program in Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. I have gotten all the forms and everything correct. Except the text color. I need to make it so when they reach the end and it says if they got it right or not, that the program changes the textbox's text color. The code I currently have is when form2 = the first word in the spelling test. Form2.textbox1 is the first place where the user puts the answer. Form1.Textbox1 is where the user puts the original word.

Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.TextChanged
If Form1.TextBox1.Text = Form2.TextBox1.Text Then
TextBox1.ForeColor = Color.Green
Else

This code does nothing and there is no errors. P.S. If you need a copy of the program, you can download the solution here: [URL]...

Making The Transition From VBA To Full On VB Net 4 Using Visual Studio 2010?

I am just making the transition from VBA to full on VB net 4 using Visual studio 2010. I think I have the basics down but am struggling with learning the commands for windows/filesystem manipulation. The problem is as follows I am creating my first program - the aim is to accept a root directory, then go through each sub directory in that location and delete the contents of any files whilst retaining the folder (hope that makes sense!)

.net - Making A Visual Studio-alike Interface Document Tabs?

Dec 1, 2011

I'm currently making an dynamic interface using the latest version of DevExpress. I finished making the DockManager with multiple DockPanel in it but there's only one problem.If you look on screenshot #1 you'll notice that in the center of Visual Studio, there's no DockPanel (screenshot #2) container for those document tabs. Also, those document tabs CAN'T dock inside side panels, but side panels CAN dock inside document panels (see screenshot #3)

That is what I'm trying to do. You can see how far I am right now on screenshot #4.

So here's a summary of my questions

1) How could I make some kind of main document panels that are filling the blank space between my side DockPanel?

FOUND! Using DevX's DocumentManager as the MDI.

2) How could I make those panel undockable inside side DockPanel but make the opposite possible?

FOUND! Using DevX's DocumentManager as the MDI.

3) How to make the panels "maximizable" like this (see screenshot #5) when outside the main window ?

4) By default, the tabs are located at the bottom of a stack of DockPanel, but I would like them to be ALWAYS located at the top, would it be possible?

FOUND! Using DevX's DocumentManager as the MDI.

Eep Visual Studio From Treating Files As Components Or Forms?

May 25, 2011

Today I noticed that Visual Studio 2008 always treats a file as if it was a component or a form if this file contains a definition of one.This means that it always opens the designer by default. I think this behavior is very annoying, because a file containing a class that derives from form or control does not have to be an actual form or control and I want to edit the source by default.

Visual Studio 2010 - Creating Hierarchy Of Files?

May 23, 2012

I'm trying to create heirarchy of classes in vb.net. I was able to achieve it in csharp by using the following tags in .csproj

<Compile Include="ClassA.cs">
<DependentUpon>ClassB.cs</DependentUpon>
</Compile>

Below snippet in the solution explorer would be as follows

I need to achieve the same in vb.net.

I'm new to vb.net. Can anybody tell me the alternative of <DependUpon> attribute used in .csproj equivalent in .vbproj. For some reason, this attribute seems to be ignored in the .vbproj even though it is displayed in the visualstudio2010 intellisence.

Get Visual Studio To Recognize Multiple Project Resource Files?

I have a Windows project in Visual Studio 2010 in which I store all images in the project's resource file that Visual Studio created for me. However, it's getting cluttered and I'd like to separate images into multiple resource files if possible. I created a new resource file, but Visual Studio doesn't recognize it when I go to the form designer and try to change an image. The only file that comes up under the Project resource files available are MyProjectResources.resx. The one that I just created isn't there.

I have pasted below a piece of code where I am displaying a report. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Crystal Report engine. It works all good with the piece of code

Problem: Everytime a report is being run it generates a ('.*tmp', '.*rpt') files typically in a temp folder c:windows emp however we can get rid of the *.tmp files by setting a recycle on the application pool but need a way to get rid of the .rpt files.

Found solution: Call Close() and Dispose() on the report object. The way I am doing is crReportDoc.Close() then crReportDoc.Dispose()Actual Problem: If Dispose() is called the report comes up with the following error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'

Visual Studio - Manage Multiple Files That Are Part Of One Class - Classes, Modules?

Sep 23, 2009

My VB project is large enough that it requires several files. It was originally developed as a Console App and I created each file as a MODULE. All modules could use subroutines, data structures and constants from other MODULES and everything worked fine. I needed to add basic windowing to the app and this required that the app be converted from a Console App to a Windows Forms App. The main window is Form1 which is not a MODULE but a CLASS. The problem is that some MODULE based functions cannot access subroutines, data and constants that are defined within the CLASS Form1 unless they are incorporated into the CLASS file and this makes the CLASS file very large. If I add a new Class file to the project, it also cannot interoperate with Class Form1 in the same way that multi-MODULE code interoperates.

How does one spread CLASS code across several files and still allow it to interoperate as if it were in a single file? Alternatively, how does one create several CLASS files that operate the way multiple MODULE files operate.I am sure that there are all kinds of best practices that I am violating but the goal to to get some prototype software working and interfaced to some lab equipment.
