If he chooses the premium version, then I want it to say premium in his "receipt" later on and if he chooses standard, then standard in the receipt.

View 2 RepliesMy VB project is growing (Visual Studio 2008) so I want to group code into 3 different groups, like "Main-2 "utilities" and "DB functions" for greater clarity So I crete a new .vb file and put functions there. Can't figure out how to refer to the functions in another .vb file. Ought to be a basic thing but I am stuck.

View 1 RepliesWhen I'm in VS2008, and I go to File > Open Project/Solution, it won't let me select a .vbp file type when I have it set to Objects of type "All Project Files (*.sln; *.dsw; *.vcw; *.rptproj; *.dwp" (it looks like it's cut off at that point). Why can't I open a .vbp file with Visual Studio 2008?
View 2 RepliesThis started happening randomly yesterday. When I press F5 to test my project, an old build of the program (circa yesterday afternoon) launches. No changes (and I've tried in a few different files) are reflected in the project. However, and this is truly perplexing, if I go to Build --> Build from the Menu bar, the output .exe in the /bin/release/ directory DOES include all the recent changes.

I am trying to make a web application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2008 that will accept login credentials and compare them with an Access database for authentication/validation. I found lots and lots of examples for how to do this with a Windows Form App, but none with a ASP.NET Web App. tried to modify the steps for a web app but I'm not sure how to make it work. The database connection is good and the query seems to work fine. Here's where I'm having trouble. In the tutorial, he says to use:
01 Private Sub But_Validate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles But_Validate.Click
02 Private Sub But_Validate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles But_Validate.Click
03 Dim r = Me.UsersTableAdapter1.ValidateUserNamePassword(Me.Txt_UserName.Text,Me.Txt_Password.Text)
[code]....
No matter what I put in for the username and password (as long as they are valid values) I always get a "success," never a failure. I know my query is working right because I put a gridview on the page and bound it to the result from the query; when I type in a user/pass that is not in the database the gridview is blank, when I type in a correct user/pass the gridview displays that row from the database.

I'm trying to add a reference to the GAC version of System.Xml in a Visual Studio 2008 web site project. I right-click the project icon in the Solution Explorer, and click Property Pages. Under the References tree option, I click the 'Add' button on the right. I navigate to System.Xml in the .NET tab, and double click it (the Path it lists for System.Xml, C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727System.XML.dll, DOES exist). The dialog disappears, but... System.Xml does not get added as a reference! The list just stays the same.
View 3 RepliesI have pasted below a piece of code where I am displaying a report. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Crystal Report engine. It works all good with the piece of code
Problem: Everytime a report is being run it generates a ('.*tmp', '.*rpt') files typically in a temp folder c:windows emp however we can get rid of the *.tmp files by setting a recycle on the application pool but need a way to get rid of the .rpt files.
Found solution: Call Close() and Dispose() on the report object. The way I am doing is crReportDoc.Close() then crReportDoc.Dispose()Actual Problem: If Dispose() is called the report comes up with the following error 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object'

View 2 RepliesI have a Visual Basic project and when working and modifying code, the compiler will crash and then a message will say something like "Microsoft visual studio encountered a problem and was shut down." I've tried editing code from the solution and the project. Both produce the error. Usually occurs when adding an "IF...Then..." condition. May work for hours but then crash. Solution will compile and build.

Today I noticed that Visual Studio 2008 always treats a file as if it was a component or a form if this file contains a definition of one. This means that it always opens the designer by default. I think this behavior is very annoying, because a file containing a class that derives from form or control does not have to be an actual form or control and I want to edit the source by default.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create heirarchy of classes in vb.net. I was able to achieve it in csharp by using the following tags in .csproj

Below snippet in the solution explorer would be as follows
I need to achieve the same in vb.net.
I'm new to vb.net. Can anybody tell me the alternative of <DependUpon> attribute used in .csproj equivalent in .vbproj. For some reason, this attribute seems to be ignored in the .vbproj even though it is displayed in the visualstudio2010 intellisence.
My program actually downloads a zip file then extracts it onto their desktop. But I need an uninstall feature for it, which is basically deleting multiple folders and containing files. How can I do this in vb.net?

View 9 RepliesHow do I disable the background compiler for Visual Basic in Visual Studio 2008?
For my sins, I have to work on a large VB.NET project and it often locks up for 20 seconds at a time whilst doing the very helpful background compilation
I'd rather work blind between compiles and be able to do some work.

I have a Windows project in Visual Studio 2010 in which I store all images in the project's resource file that Visual Studio created for me. However, it's getting cluttered and I'd like to separate images into multiple resource files if possible. I created a new resource file, but Visual Studio doesn't recognize it when I go to the form designer and try to change an image. The only file that comes up under the Project resource files available are MyProjectResources.resx. The one that I just created isn't there.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to use my existing application to open tiff files for clients and staff in order to print or view the reports that we have scanned into our server. Unfortunately I have been unable to find a free, preferably open source library or wrapper for a library that will work in VB.NET running through Visual Studio 2005. Does anyone know of any open source/free implementations of this that I could adopt in my application?
