View 5 RepliesI have some difficulties concerning threading [code]
Code:
1- Dim str As String
2- Dim x As New myClass
3- str = x.doSomething()
4- x.closeSomething()
I've included line numbers so I can just refer the lines by their numbers. My problem is, when the program executes, line 4 seems to be executed earlier than I want it to. It gets executed while ThreadX is still running in line 3. How can I force the program to wait until ThreadX has finished executing, before it executes line 4?
I am using the following command to install a driver withing my program: Process.Start(Application.StartupPath & "USBG-232MM_Driver.exe")
This installs a driver for USB cable(not important).
1- I would like to wait untill the driver finishes installing before I go to next step. Is there anyway to know if this process is completed?
2- After I plug the USB cable the computer starts the detection. I like to know when the device is detected and ready.
When a button is clicked,my program gets the list of all Drives on a current computer.Then I use String.Concat to merge the drive letter and the rest of the path.So I get something like: "C:" + "somefoldersomefile.some_extension"That creates a full path to a file I am looking for.Then I check if that file exists.If it doesn't exist,I use Process.Start to run the setup file(to install the program I need).It works well and installs the program I need.I want my application,after the installation is finished,to check again if the program is installed and ofcourse confirm that it is.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim DriveList As String() = Directory.GetLogicalDrives()
Dim Drive, FullPath, Path1 As String
Dim EmptyDrives As Integer

We are currently changing our Antivirus program which involves uninstalling our current one first. That isn't a problem but we have several laptop users not in the building who might have a problem uninstalling programs.
It should be possible to write a script/program to automate the uninstall process I guess, but don't know where to start. Can someone point me in the right direction?

In order to better support problems with this application is has been suggested in the past to uninstall it and do a fresh re-install. However, in investigation it was determined that the uninstall does not consider all installed objects and does not uninstall the CD install.Can the uninstall functionality be modified to catch the other instances of this application and also uninstall them?
View 11 RepliesI know how to launch a file or executable in VB .NET 2005. The file will launch and execution in the code continues immediately.
Process.Start("MyProg.exe")
But what if I need to start the program, wait until it finishes executing, read the exit code that it sends back, and take some action based upon the action code? How do I do that?
I'm having a problem with using the system.diagnostic.process. Basically, I can't get the myProcess.WaitForExit to work. I keep getting an error saying that "No process is associated with this object.". I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

How would I make a VB program that can "wait" for a process to start and then kill it?
View 8 RepliesI'd like to have a function in my program that waits for a process to start, and once it does, it executes the code. Id like to have a form of 'buttonless messages box' or 'splash screen' waiting saying "waiting for process to start..." and once the process starts, a message box will pop up saying "Process has started!".
I was thinking of having a timer with a low delay constantly looping to see if the process exists, but that would be a little rough on the processor, no? Also, how would I accomplish the 'buttonless messagebox' that automatically closes once the process is found?
I been trying to do loop until and while and even waitforexit nothing works as far as I did not really good with loops.[code]
View 7 RepliesI'm using System.Management to start a process on a remote target via WMI like this:
InputParameters("CommandLine") = "executable here"
OutputParameters = ManagementClass.InvokeMethod("Create", InputParameters, Nothing)
This kicks off the process and my code continues to run, but I need a way of monitoring that process and not doing anything else until it finishes. Is there a simple solution? I'm hoping there's something similar to Process.WaitForExit like there is when creating a local process.
I am running macros from a button click in my application. I want the macros to run sucessfully before it start another process. I want the StartMacrosI to start and complete first before it starts DeleteFilesI. I need to wait for it to complete before I do the next function/sub.
Below is my code.

StartMacrosI()
DeleteFilesI()
End Sub

I am working on a game launcher, and I need to display a "Splash screen" until the main game has started. For this, I need to know whether or not the Process has a Main window that is fully loaded and displayed.Now I noticed the main window handle is 0 when there is none, so I tried to use that:[code]But the handle never becomes nonzero. I tried to use the title but to no avail.I do not want to go into "Thread.wait()" since then the splash would remain even if the game is already launched.
View 4 RepliesI am using Process.Start in my application, which is working great.My only problem is, the program it "starts", is an installer, which takes about 5 minutes to install. I woud really like to hide all my forms and only show one that says "please wait", but i cant seem to get it to stay there till the process has finished.
View 2 RepliesWhile navigating to a series of sites at one site the WebBrowser control's DocumentCompleted EVENT is tripped and no other recorded Browser events occur after that. When this happens the hour glass cursor indicates the browser is waiting. From this point it take 120 to 250 seconds of wall clock time before the browser resumes. I am looking for a way to force an abnormal termination without destroying the control. I have tried "Stop", "nav to about:blank" repeatedly without success. How can I force an abnormal termination when the Cntrl is in a wait state?
Consider the following: The last known Browser event to be tripped is a Document Complete event; nothing else occurs after this. When this transpires the Cntrl is waiting.

I have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).

The product was installed using Windows Installer and the product name is Dell Kace Agent. I would like to perform the uninstall within the VB.NET code.Here's a VBScript that uninstalls a product using WMIC. This could be converted to VB.NET fairly easily, but is there a better way to perform a uninstall within VB.NET code than querying WMIC? I would rather not use WMIC to perform the uninstall maybe get the uninstall string from the registry?

View 1 RepliesI've taken MS 4994A (Intro to VB.net), and am studying for 4995A (Advanced Intro to VB.net)Previous experience with VB6 and C++ tells me that the way to do it would be to create a program that will accept a list of computer names and check the registry one-by-one (I'm open to suggestions, though, of course). If it finds the program we're wanting to remove, it will remove it, then automagically install .net 2.0 and the .net version of the programs that were just removed.
