Web Based Chat Room With VB.NET Behind Code In ASP.NET Framework?
Sep 11, 2002
Is there any way to build a web based chat room application by using VB.NET as behind code and put it with ASP.NET on the web so users can login the account and start to chat without keep refreshing the browser or frame and have a real time transaction, I know that I have to use .NET.Socket namespaces, but don't know exactly how. I have seen many examples of windows based applications, but I need to know how to put it on the web.
create a chat room? My current hosting is a linux server with mysql. I want to make a client that can connect to the database.(already done) and if the user exists, to open a chat form. I want this to be multithreaded, that way I can have up to 500 people chatting with each other at the same time, from different locations. (realistically will usually be around 50)I have found some winsock type examples, but I dont understand how I can adapt that to work with a linux server... Can anyone help give me examples? I guess I basically want an IRC.(Which I dont know how to implement.)
I have created a instant messenger program that works great except for 1 of our computers that is in our vpn but is an offsite location. The computer is able to connect but loses its connection after a few minutes.
I have been looking for a really detailed tut on how to use in a server to client chat room. I looked on google but they just post the script which helps alittle but I need a lot of detail to make a working chatroom.
I want to make my own little chat room window. [url] But I want to do a post or something to log-in. Not just filling out the form values one by one. I've looked at some sources, but I'm overly confused. Anyone have some direction to help guide me, or even some examples?
How would I create a multi-tcp chat room. Im having trouble handling them. I know you can store the connections as arrays or store then in hash tables. Is there a better way to data to a specific connected client. My way was to just broadcast the message to all the connected with the clients name (EX: Client1||MessageHere) || is the split. The client reads the message and sees if client name matches if it does then it will display it other then that it will not. I found out that my server was sending out useless data with this method. So is there a better way to handle/Send messages to a specific client?
I've run into another road block while programming my game. The problem is that when a player types North in room "Crash Site" They get the description of traveling to the next room "In Trail" as well as the description of traveling to the next room after that, "Deeper In Trail" before having to type north again. I've looked over the code several times, but can't find the problem....the conditions seem to be fine, but I'm guessing that's where the problem is..
Code: ElseIf LCase$(txtInput.Text) = "go north" And Room = "Crash Site" Then Room = "In Trail"
I see more and more job postings about C# and C#. Are most VB NET programmers moving to C#? Are there any enterprise class applications (whether Windows or Web-based) still being written in Visual Basic?
Is it possible to load a referenced assembly only if the .NET Framework version is lesser than a specific number? I'm using a selfmade LINQ library on .NET 2.0, but if the framework is 3.5+, it should use the M$ LINQ library, and ignore the selfmade one. Here's my library: [URL]
We are currently developing a WPF/Entity-Framework based application.One of our requirements was to allow the user option to select which environment(testing, training, or production) they will connect to when logging in.Each connection option points to its own database.In order to do this we are creating new EF contexts in the following way:[code]We have made sure that all new contexts are being disposed of once its job is completed.The problem is this: when the users are using the application we are seeing hundreds of SQL Server processes in SQL Server's activity monitor. Some individual users have upwards of 30+ processes associated when using the app. Once the user shuts down the app the associated processes all disappear - but while the app is running these processes seem to stick around.
I have VB.NET Window based project built on .NET 3.5 Framework that is working on the Windows7 32 bit System but when I try to run this same application in Windows7 64 bit System it gives an error message: "System.BadImageFormatException: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)"
I realize this post is rather long, but I wanted to give all the information up front instead of people having to ask me for more information.At the end of the re-installation of Visual Studio 2008, there is this message:
"Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard. MSI returned error code 1638" in the log file dd_error_vs_procore_90.txt.
I have searched on Google for this whole message and found some references to this error, but I have done what they said worked for them and it did not fix the problem for me.When I searched for just "MSI returned error code 1638", I got that it cannot install something because it is already installed:"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel".In Add/Remove Programs I see these two programs:
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.3 Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Are these programs/versions what the error is refering to? Am I safe to remove them and depend on the similarly-named item which would be newly installed with Visual Studio 2008 - "Microsoft SQL Publishing Wizard"? I still use SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on my computer, as well as 2008. I had installed VS 2008 on my computer before without this problem and also have VS 2005 and 2010.
I've created an application, And now need to add the chat feature. It just needs to be basic, But im un sure on how to code one since i am still a beginner at Visual Basic. I know there is a way via TCP Listener using Net.Sockets, But im stuck there. I am totally out of my mind when i think ill know how to code. But here is how the chat will work[code]...
Server side, Is just to host it. I will host it on a windows vps with ports opened, and Anyone who downloads the program can connect to the chat. The username or Nickname of the user will come from 'My.Settings.username'. At this point I am willing to pay someone to code this project.
So, in another related post, i got the chat to send to a java server, cool.Now, it's a matter of sending it back to VB.on the server side of things, (in java), I am using the following
JAVA public static void sendback(String what2send) throws IOException { ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(mySocket.getOutputStream());
I know you from microsoft but can you stopto all those old threads that related to flash and browser because you are pushing new threads to the back. If you want to post something that can benefit the forum members, just post in
If you use reflector to, for example, look at the implementation of the OnMouseEnter method of ButtonBase, it calls IntSecurity.AllWindows.Assert before showing a ToolTip control.
I'm working in VB.Net and I'm trying to make a piece of code more generic.In fact, there's a big Select Case statement that build a ProxyServer based on a value passed in parameter (a string).
Select Case _strNteraHL7 Case Constantes.NomPRPMIN306010 strUrl = ObtenirUrl("ProviderDetailsQuery", _strVersion, _strEnvir, True, _blnSimulCAIS, _blnSimulPDS, _blnSimulPDSSIIR, _blnSimulPDSInteg)
[code]....
or something similar, so I can remove all those big switch cases, that repeat the same thing 30 times.objWsHL7 being an object or type "object" at compiling.Again, in another switch case statement,
objMsgHL7Out = _objWsHL7.ProviderDetailsQuery(_objMsgIn) objMsgHL7Out is a System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message _objMsgIn is a System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message _objWsHL7 is an Object
I am trying to convert a C#/XNA project to a VB.Net project with access to the XNA framework. I have added all of the XNA framework as references in the VB project and imported them as well.Most of the code translation is going well but I am getting mixed up with some graphics issues and some event handling issues (neither of which do I understand in any languague). I have tried to puzzle it out but am digging myself a deeper hole with each attempt.I am ok with converting the variable declarations and the first three lines of the Game1 Sub. It is when we get to "graphics. preparedevicesettings . . . " that the trouble starts.
public class Game1 : Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game { private GraphicsDeviceManager graphics;[code]....
I have a simple Entity Framework. For simplicity's sake I will transform the entity names to Northwind Like.I have a IEnumerable Of Customer and Item Objects
i have made a client and server chat system in VB 2008 with winsock,it's a one to one chat and works perfect fine, but do anyone know how to turn it into a multi-client chat system? Code in below: Here is the code for the server:
is this even necessary in VS2010 & .NET 4.0? I've been trying to take advantage of the new Windows 7 taskbar interfaces like the Jump List. The MSDN documentation/tutorial instructs me to include a System.Windows.Shell, but apparently Shell isn't a member of System.Windows. I downloaded the API code pack, but I am unsure of what to do with it. The instructions say to open the main solution file and build it:QuoteTo build the library (except the DirectX related features) in Visual Studio 2008, please extract the contents of the WindowsAPICodePack.zip file in a new folder and build the included WindowsAPICodePack.sln file.And so I did that, but that is the extent of the instructions. I thought maybe it was a Visual Studio extension, so I tried accessing Shell again to no avail. Do I need to add each of the respective namespaces' projects to the target solution to use the API Code pack?
I have a form that I have been getting submissions that have punctuation and special characters that trigger the potentially dangerous Request.Form value error. I have been trying use the httpUtility.htmlencode and Server.htmlencode method to sanitize textboxes and textareas.All my tests do not fire because the built-in request validation of the 4.0 framework prevents the code-behind from executing to perform the sanitization. I have included the ValidateRequest in the page header but no matter what I set it too it still does the same thing.
I have developed a small application in VB.NET 2008. It uses .net framework 3.5. But somehow it also runs in computers with .net framework 2 or 2.5. Is there a way to determine thru code what is the latest version of .net framework the pc is running. This way I can give a warning message box that the required framework is not installed.
In entity framework we can use 3 approaches model first , code first , database first but each one of them needs manual hand touch(means creating database or create model or write the POCO class codes or entity class codes) before proceeding to the next step ( using EF in context ).What if I want to create database and tables and table relationships programatically and still want to have to features of EntityFramework 4.3.
To be more specific ,from this example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307283 we can create database , tables and everything using SQL command but we can't have the advantages of entity framework. So if we want to have that what should we do? To give the ability to create dynamic table fields those steps will not be sufficient. In all 3 steps database , table and table columns are fixed. There is no way that a user can create new tables or columns dynamically. http:[url].... in this post , it shows how to create manual db, tables and etc using SQL but it is based on ADO.NET but I want Entity Manager to do that.
I am using Entity Framework 4.1 code first+MVC3 and the inheritence stratagy that I use is TPC
I have the following classes Public Class ObjectBase <Key()> Public Property Id As Integer Public Property Description As String End Class
[Code]...
Question 1 (and question 2) should be very simple, but I have allready spent hours on Google to find an answer with no result at all. The only thing I have found is that you can get all computers in ObjectBase by writing context.ObjectBase.OfType(Of Computer), and that does not help since you cannot write context.BorrowObjects.ObjectBase.OfType(Of Computer) code samples in VB.NET (if you can), but more importantly: Please ensure that the codesamples you supply work without hours of modification!
I've seen a few people on here saying that you shouldnt use GoTo in VB.NET and to be honest I've tended to agree as I have never needed to use it and there is always another way of doing something without using it. However, I'm just wondering what is so bad about it? I actually noticed that Microsoft seem to use it a fair bit in the internal .NET framework code, which is what makes me wonder why people are so against it.
