What Is MS SQL Server / What Is Difference Between Different Editions Of MS SQL Server

Can anyone explain me the differences between the various editions of MS SQL Server? What are the limitations of MS SQL 2005 / 2008 Express Edition compared to other editions? Is there any MS SQL like "Professional Edition for MS Visual Studio"? As there is a different "Setup" for deployment between Express edition and Standard / Professional Edition, is there any thing for this MS SQL Server Express edition and other MS SQL?

I wrote a VB code to call a sp in sql server 2005, which returns a recordset as follows:Dim objRecordset As ADODB.Recordset Set objComm = New ADODB.Command

Set objRecordset = objRecordset.NextRecordset I need to continue to get next recordset since there are many select statements inside the sp which I need to get the data. The code works fine when I create the DSN using SQL Server but it does not work when using the connection string or SQL Server Native Client DSN. It either breaks at Set objRecordset = objComm.Execute ( connection string )or at If Not objRecordset.BOF And Not objRecordset.EOF Then(SQL native client )
I have worked on this for a couple of days now and could not figure it out.Is this a bug in SQL Native Client or something related to some configuration on the database side? IS there a way I can change the connection property to get this working using SQL native client or connection string?

I need to get a copy of VB for work, and I need to tell the purchaser what to buy, but I can't figure out the difference between the Visual Studio Standard Edition and the Professional Edition except that the Pro Ed costs $500 more. What is the difference?What I need to do is generate a VB front-end to an Access DB, so I only need the VB language. Can the Visual Studio be purchased with all of the troubleshooting tools, such as debugger, but only contain VB?

I have an application I have developed which works great on individual PC's. However I've had some interest from a few customers that asked if I have a network version for site licencing.If my app did not save any data or write any reg entries, this might have been ok. But it does to the local computer. I also built in my own copy protection and trial function that stores data in the registry on the local computer.What would I need to do to enable my application to run on a server/network share, so that the only a serial number needed is for the server?

I have a server which has around 300+ users on it. Though the problem is that its coded in VB6, and if somebody has a bad ping, everybody has a bad ping. I need a tunneling server which will tunnel the incoming and outgoing connections and make there ping appear to be 0 in the server. Client to Server, Server to Client.

i'm tying to send email in my application directly by the smtp server but the server doesn't allow me to do that.The application its used by everyone in the company, so i set the smtp client UseDefaultCredentials to True, but the server replies with this when i try to send an email:[code].....If i set the credentials by hand, the server sends the email. So my problem is how to make this work to everyone? I don't want to have one public/friend var all time in the application with the credentials of the current user?

I have created my site using ASP.NET Personal Starter Kits 3.5. I have a client/server application set up that the client sends a word file to the server and then the server converts that word file to a .TIF and sends the image back.The stuff I have now works.Say if I sent the size of the file and the actual file byte() to the server back to back, would the NetworkStream contain both back to back? This what I though would happen. So I implemented a kind of 'turn' based interaction during the duration of the conversion process.

I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.

An application loaded on a citrix server executes with no problem. When we try to run the same program files on a virtual server, we get silent errors and we do not even see the application window appear. The program runs for a moment in task manager, but then closes down. BTW other .net apps run on the virtual server. Here is the error we see in the event viewer application logs[code]...

I made a simple TCP server (I've found the example on the web) in VB to receive data from about 40 TCP clients.The clients are not synchronized but sends data about every 18 minutes; the problem is sometimes several clients sends data at the same moment, so I can't receive data.I also made a second program that reads the data (server program writes data on a file, read from the second program) scheduled.
My question is this: I've seen on the web examples about Multithreaded Server Socket Program, so I suppose this could manage my 40 clients (but now the clients are syncronized and send data at the same time in client mode) or is better get data (I have a central client that asks data to all 40 devices in server mode)?
Second question: can I make a single program where I run both TCP client and TCP server at the same time?

I have several programs that I wrote in Visual Basic.net 2003 that I run from a server at work. We upgraded to Visual Studio 2008 recently and I converted my code to that version. I rebuilt the .exes and tried to run it from the server. It said I needed to upgrade the framework on the server, which I did. Now when I run the .exe file from the server I get a runtime error:

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applicaiton's support team for more information.
These programs are very important to the day-to-day operations of the company I work for. I did backup the software before converting it, so we're running normally right now, but there are modifications and upgrades I need to make as soon as possible, but cannot due to the programs crashing when I run the on the server.

We are currently using Access 97 as our database. This resides on the remote farm server (which is a Windows 2008 R2 server). We are using a front end vb6 exe which accesses the back end data.Occasionally we are getting corruption to our database and we have to make sure everyone exits the software to allow us to repair/compact it. There are 2 physical servers, each running 2 virtual machines. When the user logs onto the farm using RDP, they go to one of these 4 virtual machines.We are getting all kinds of corruption, some where # characters have been inserted into the top of one table, some where the indexes are corrupted, and some where access needs to repair the database.

In my scenario, users are able to upload zip files to a.[url]....I would love to create a "daemon" which in specified time intervals will move-transfer any zip files uploaded by the users from a[url].....From the info i gathered so far,
The daemon will be an .ashx generic handler.
The daemon will be triggered at the specified time intervals via a plesk cron job
The daemon (thanks to SLaks) will consist of two FtpWebRequest's (One for reading and one for writing).
how could i implement step 3?
Do i have to read into to a memory() array the whole file and try to write that in b.example.com ?
How could i write the info i read to b[url].....?
Could i perform reading and writing of the file at the same time? No i am not asking for the full code, i just can figure out, how could i perform reading and writing on the fly, without user interaction.I mean i could download the file locally from a.example.com and upload it at b.example.com but that is not the point.
