What Is Loaded Into Memory When Application Starts

Mar 31, 2011

I have an application that uses many forms and a couple of modules. One module modMain contains my subMain that starts the application. In subMain an instance of frmMainMenu (insFrmMainMenu) is created with a menubar. As the user selects an item from the menu bar, an instance of a specific form is created (for example insFrmViewCustomer). That instance is opened with the ShowDialog method. When the form insFrmViewCustomer is closed, a statement in insFrmMainMenu disposes the instance of insFrmViewCustomer. modMain also contains many public functions and subs, as well as public variables. The other modules contain public functions and subs.

So, What is loaded into memory when the application starts?
And Is there a tool within Visual Studio that tells me the answer to the first question?

.net - Generate A PDF File As System.net.mail.attachment Using Memory Stream?

Nov 25, 2011

I have a function that accepts a string and generates an email attachment based on that string. It works fine for html pages, text documents, and so forth but I can not get it to generate a PDF file.

Code:

Public Sub SendMail _
( _
ByVal strFrom As String _
[code]......

If I save the file attachment as Whatever.PDF i get the error that it was not encoded properly.I am using datadynamics active reports PDF exporter to generate the PDF

dim pdf as new datadynamics.activereports.export.pdf.pdfexport
sendmail("from@", "to@", "test", "test", pdf.tostring, "pdf.pdf")

I think the problem is I am converting the PDF to a string, and then trying to convert it back to a PDF and attach it to the email but I am not 100% sure.

Loading HTML Content Into A WebBrowser Control From Memory?

Oct 4, 2005

WebBrowser Example.zip IntroductionBecause the WebBrowser control that we use in .NET is a COM control, not all of its uses are straightforward and some of them (even those which seem like they should be easy) require that we dip into our Interop toolbox in order to properly implement them.

A perfect example of this is loading HTML content into the WebBrowser from memory, rather than a file or a URL. Anyone who's ever used the WebBrowser control before is familiar with the Navigate2 method, which tells the control to load content from a URL (or path to a file). Loading HTML content from memory, however, is a rather elusive practice because of the many steps involved in making it work.

MSHTML.HTMLDocumentYou might notice that the WebBrowser control exposes a "document" property. The object returned by this property can be coerced to the type of "mshtml.HTMLDocument" (you must add a reference to MSHTML to your project in order to make this work) as follows:

Code:Dim clsDocument As mshtml.HTMLDocument = CType(WebBrowser.Document, mshtml.HTMLDocument)

(NOTE: You will have to add a reference to the COM library MSHTML to your project to make this compile)

Once we create an instance of HTMLDocument, a whole new world opens up to us, providing all sorts of DOM access to the content of any given Web page.

If we were to create our own HTMLDocument object from memory, we could use the "write" method to write HTML content to the document from a string variable, like this:

Code:'initialize the document object within the HTMLDocument class... clsDocument.close() clsDocument.open("about:blank")

'write the HTML to the document using the MSHTML "write" method... Dim clsHTML() As Object = {sHTML} m_clsDocument.write(clsHTML) clsHTML= Nothing

WebBrowser Control ImplementationUsing the HTMLDocument returned by the "document" property of the WebBrowser control, however, is not as straight-forward. Because of the way that this object is created and initialized in memory (by the COM WebBrowser control), the "write" method fails when called as above. In order to write content to the HTMLDocument exposed by the WebBrowser control, we must first marshal the string value to a memory space that is compatible with COM. Once the string is properly marshalled, the COM interface IPersistStreamInit (implemented by the HTMLDocument class) must be used to pass the value into the object.

Interop DeclarationsIn order to pull all of this off, we must declare several Interop pieces, including an enumeration, a function, and two interfaces. The declarations for these pieces are as follows:

Create A Plugin System Where Plugins Can Be Dynamically Loaded?

Dec 21, 2008

I am trying to create a plugin system where plugins can be dynamicly loaded (we don't know how many there are, what their classes are called, ...)This is sample code for a plugin:

Code:
Public Interface IPlugin
Sub bla()
Function bla3() As String
End Interface

[code]....

This code SHOULD msgbox("yay") when it finds a type that implements my IPlugin interface. Yet it never finds one. I can't find what I did wrong. It gets to the debug.print("2"), but never gets past the "If GetType(IPlugin).IsAssignableFrom(t) Then".

Parsing XML Loaded In Richtextbox (loaded From URL)

Dec 14, 2011

I have two rich text boxes, and two buttons on my screen. The first button grabs HTML from a URL and then converts the HTML to XML which resides in rich text box 1.

The second button is to grab the XML from the rich text box1 and then parse it to grab all the input elements by their ID.

My issue is that my parser isn't doing anything. My guess is that I'm not quite getting the XML from the first rich text box.

What would be the best way to grab the XML from a rich text box load it into memory and then parse the XML to grab all the ID tags?

Here is my code --

Imports System.Text
Imports System.Net

Can't Print With Font Loaded From Ttf File

Jun 21, 2010

I've wrote a program awhile ago that prints barcode labels. The old version needed the font to be installed in the fonts folder, but that made it a pain for people using the program for the first time, as the program would print the barcode label with a default font. DGV Loaded And Then Saved To Text File?

May 10, 2012

I have my datagridview being loaded from a Text File and then being saved to a text file as a comma separated file - the commas obviously separate the columns. However in some of the cells prior to saving, I have data that i have inputted over two lines by pressing shift + return.

E.g.
"SOLD
10/05/2012"

This saves fine, but obviously shows up in the text file as a line break, which then causes some issues when I choose to re open the info back into DGV. How I can code so that it saves as a line break within a cell, rather than a completely new line.

How To Open Application With Data File Loaded

Aug 8, 2011

I created a VS2010 application that stores data in xml files with a custom extension (e.g. ".ABC") I would like to be able to open an .ABC file and have the application launch with the specific file's data loaded. This is analogous to opening a Word doc and having Word open with the doc loaded. I have searched for a while but can't even think of a phrase that explains this process. Nothing seems to match "You know . . . that thing that happens when you double click on a data file".

Use The DataTable.WriteXml Method To Create An XML File Without Erasing Previous Content In That File?

Feb 18, 2011

I have to generate an XML file from several database tables. I could use the WriteXml method of the DataSet to do it, but the database tables are really huge and I can't add all those tables in the DataSet at the same time or it may cause a problem because of the big amount of memory used. Then I decided to use the DataTable's WriteXml method and save table after table, but the the generated file only stores the information of the last DataTable.WriteXml's call. How can I preserve the previous XML data when adding all that information?

Drag A .txt File Onto The Txtbox, The Content Of The Text File Is Displayed In The Textbox?

Mar 3, 2012

I have a textbox on a form that is set to allow dragdrop operations from txt files.Basically you drag a .txt file onto the txtbox, the content of the text file is displayed in the textbox. All is working fine, however after the textfile is displayed in the textbox, the text box text is for some reason is highlighted.I don't want the text to be highlighted (or selected) after it's being displayed on the textbox.Second issue, after I close the file that I dragged, for some reason even if I didn't make any changes to the file, it is acting as if the file has changed. In another words, if I open a text file using my MenuItem Open item, and if I do not change the file, If I close the file it's fine it closes. However, if I close a file that I draged into the text box and then close the file without changing anything in it, the stringcompare function is telling me that the file has changed... I can't understand why.
