Can I use tools commonly for all the winforms? How to create common toolstrip?
For example : I have one toolstrip.it has one delete button.
All winform has one datagrid and data comes from differs tables.
Now I want to remove the data from the any datagrid all winforms.
We have 3 databases providers we use to connect to our databases: DB2, MS SQL, and Interbase. I would like to create a single generic database wrapper class that can be used to talk to all three just by passing in the correct connection string, username, password, and the provider desired.
I don't want to have to add references and import all three providers in the database class. Is this possible?I have done this before in Java using the Class.forName() function.
i have a question about toolstrip button.example: i have 20 form consisting MasterItem,MasterPart,MasterProduct, etc.all form have 6 button:New,Edit,Save,Delete,Cancel,Exit Button in toolstrip.the problem is : if i have a few change in toolstrip,I must change all 20 form. that's waste my energy and time.
i want to create 1 toolstrip but can use by 20 form. so if i have change,i don't need change 20 toolstrip. when using PHP,i am using include "menu.php".and this file "menu.php" can use by anyform in PHP. so if i change "menu.php",that's effect to any file using "menu.php"
I really want to make use of the toolstrip and databinding but these two technologies keep conflicting with each other. I think the root cause is something to with the fact that the toolstrip buttons don't recieve focus in the normal way.
I invite you to try the following:-
1. Create a form and put some text boxes a tool strip with a save button on it.
2. Write a query or sproc to get a datatable back and bind your text boxes to the field in the datatable.
3. In the code behind your Save ToolStripButton put some code that makes an arbitrary change to a field on the dataset (it doesn't matter whther this field is bound to a text box or not). eg:- m_DataTable.Rows(0).Item("CommissionRatePerc") = "0.0000"
4. Put a breakpoint in the save and run the form.
5. Make some changes in the text boxes. Do not leave the last text box but rather click save while a text box whose contents you have edited still has focus.
6. When your code hits the breakpoint, query the value of the data table field that is bound to the text box you were editing when you clicked save - it will still contain the unedited value. Unless you do something about it that unedited value is going to get saved back to your DB.
We did get around this problem by explicetely setting the focus to another control on the form before saving. That worked most of the time because it prompts the text box to flush it's value back to the datatable (nb EndEdit does not work, although you'd have expected it to). However, and this is the reason I suggested you add a line of code that changed a value in the underlying datatable in step 3, if you change a value in code in this way before the value from the text box get's flushed back then it doesn't seem to matter what you do, the user's current edit is simply lost. They will still show in the text box, though, leading your user to believe that the change has been committed when it hasn't. Our final solution is that we never ever change a value in the adtaset in the code behind our toolstrip buttons. That's working but it's a pretty big restriction.
I have a tool strip menu item who's collection is filled from a subroutine that loads all available com ports on the computer at for load. I know how to generate a click event for menu items that are filled, but not if they haven't been filled already. I guess it doesn't need to be a click event. It just needs to do something that I can get the .text and use it to configure a serial port.
I have used VB (versions 2 - 6) through many years; however, I am crash-course training myself into the VB2008 / VB2010 world kicking a screaming. I would like suggestions as to what SQL database access method should I focus more on in my learning process without making me feel that I'm a million years behind. I know I have WinForms where I can create a datasourse and drag / drop fields or tables on a form to create a grid (not really what I'm looking for).
My trouble isn't so much designing the form but in how I access the database. Theres XML, LINQ to SQL, ADO.NET, and many other methods. Not only do I need to grasp these methods quickly but I also need to know what type of projects I should create. What I mean is...I was thinking that I would design a WinForm app; however, I see that there are WPF apps and others to chose from. This is getting deep. I know it depends on the project that I'm working on. My plans are to write an app based off of either an SQL Express 2008 or SQL Server 2008 database. This first app will be standalone for now but may later become multi-user. I know I'm far behind on my learning curve coming from VB6. I have read a bit on VB2005 / 2008 / 2010. I own both VB2008 and VB2010. I use VB2008 at work. I know ADO.NET is still alive but by what I read online, it's a dying method and is only kept for backward compatibility. XML and LINQ to SQL and other methods are all pretty new to me.
It is possible to create windows service using windows form control in vb.net. give me the url or links. The windows forms control such as, Timer control, list-box, notify-icon control etc.
I want to create autohide Side bar in Winforms using VB.Net 2005. I have main form there is already fixed side bar with lot of options now just I want it autohide just like VS.NET 2005 Toolbox?
I want to make typewriter effect like: [URL] dim s as string = "123" label1.text = s.substring(0,1) WAIT label1.text = s.substring(0,2) WAIT label1.text = s.substring(0,3)
The idea is that I would have a set of forms, users would click through a "forward" and "back" button, and the current form would change to a different one. My issue is that I can write code that just pops up a new form, but im not sure how to do a "replacement" of my current form. How is this usually done?
I have a website with login and register forms using custom HDI Membership provider where Users can login or register new account.
Now I have a desktop software and trying to have two forms for login and register where my users can able to login or register for user convenience and not by going to the website and make them register online. So, I have these to know in order to go further.
1) Can I use HDI membership provider as I have used it in my web application? As previously I have done and I faced many problems and still didn't get clarified here
2) If No, how do I make use in order to make use the same HDI Membership. Finally I need to use the same database for my desktop software as well as my web application with all the possibilities (i.e. I need to validate each parameter of my membership class).I am able to register the user but it is not using the Membership and I'm unable to know why it is not picking up the membership provider from the app.config file.
Our shop primarily use "ADO objects" (I'm referring to DataSet, DataTable, and DataRow) for marshaling around data and manipulating it on forms and in grids. We are experimenting with creating shop-flavored counterparts to the native ADO objects so that we can impose our in-house standards on top of them. Implementing this is straightforward with one exception: I want our objects to be bindable to controls.
I'm aware of IList, IBindingList, BindingSource, etc. and have looked at and experimented with these, but I am falling short when it comes to making a class with no hard property names bindable. The native ADO objects are not strongly typed by default. You have column values that you access via the Item property (e.g. row("Age") or row.Item("Age")). The binding examples I've found online deal with strong-typed objects (e.g. row.Age). Essentially, we want to create custom ADO objects (not inherited from the native ones) that still retain their ability to bind to controls. In a grid I would expect to see columns Name, Age and Occupation from a row where these properties are exposed via row("Name"), row("Age") and row("Occupation"). This must be doable as this is exactly what the native DataTable and DataRow provide.
is it a bad idea to create separate parts/winforms of the same application (using the same SQL Server DB) in different executable files. For example for a School IS: A Receptionist App, A Teacher App, A Principal App and so on.
In a winforms application (VB, VS2008 SP1) i bound a checkbox field to a SQL Server 2005 BIT field. The databinding itself seems to work, there is this litte problem: user creates a new record and checks the checkbox, then the user decides to create a new record (without having saved the previous, so there are 2 new records to be submitted) and checks also the second.
To create splash screen before InitializeComponent, the WithEvents statement for the BackgroundWorker component needs to be moved from the Form's Designer.vb file into the constructor as indicated in the first commented lines of the constructor below.
Is it possible to set a project default for VB.NET winforms projects so that the default Modifier for controls added to winforms is Private (not Friend)?I know there's a "modifiers" property in the properties window so I can set it for each individual control however I would like to change the project so from now on myself and other developers have to specifically decide to change from friend to private. (Which I would strongly discourage them from doing).I believe there is no way of doing this, but on another forum a while ago someone mentioned it would be possible with an add-in (but didn't name the add-in or where to get it).
I am new to .net and I usually had a common file which was having information of username, server, password,IPS and fixed integers in php and asp classic which i used to include in all files so that i could use them in any page. Since I have come to know that .net has no include function. how i can do it in asp.net?
I need to add some common details in more than two tables. [code]So i have stored the Department (from drop down list box) and assigned it to Dept.So i guess dept would have Csc if i choose csc and commerce if i hoose commerce. When I checked with breakpoint it s workin. Datas are added perfectly. But they are not visible in that respective table
In the old VB, there is a .bas file wherein i place all the global constants there and whenever i create a new project i just include that .bas file so that all the constants i placed are automatically added to my project. Is there any way to do this on VS2008? Ill be doing dozens of Class Libraries that that needs to reference global constants.
1. Is there any other way of referencing the global constants rather than making it a shared variable in a class?
2. Also, is there a way to include a .VB file without the copying it on the local project file? My point being is that this .VB file is also being used by other Class LIbraries that i created.
Is it possible to set up a common event handler for a group of like controls like buttons or text boxes so a single event handler is called regardless of which of the controls is clicked, changed, etc.In my PrinterDialog study project I have 5 text boxes named TB1, TB2, TB3, TB4 and TB5 in a text box array called TBs so they can be accessed with TBs(0), TBs(1), etc.My question is if I can set up a single click event that responds when any of the 5 text boxes are clicked to avoid duplicate code n 5 different click events.
I know it is not vb question but I was wondering if there is any place to get the common images for buttons (like save, clear, find, new , delete etc...)
I have to group the first column (Code) and from the second (Year) I have to get the data 'less common as possible' compared to all the other records. I try to explain this with the example: for the code 'A01' I have 2 years: '2001' and '2002'. I have to take '2001' because it's the one that not recurs in the other records. In the case that there aren't available values 'Year' that not recurs in the other records, it's good to take whatever value.
The data are in the form of array in memory and to interact with them I'm useng some LINQ queries.
