Windows Forms Window Load Method Not Completing?

Oct 12, 2010

So in my window onLoad method I am pre-populating a grid with values retrieved from a database. Here is the method below for the window load:

Private Sub winMain_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
''#Load Grid
Dim dt As New DataTable
With dt

[code].....

What happens is, when I press F5 to debug, the program loads, and the grid is still empty, just as it is without a datasource. When I try to step through the code, it actually reaches down to the line that reads

Budgets = BudgetManager.Process.Budget.GetAllBudgets()

and then stepping over this line...the window loads and it doesn't go any further in the method. What the line of code above does is eventually make a execution call of some SQL to a SQLite database, and the code gets to the point at which it calls the execute method, but doesn't even make the query yet. All the objects up until that point in the code are set properly as well (found through debugging and checking locals.)Edit:Exception is this:

"Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727' of the runtime and cannot be loaded in the 4.0 runtime without additional configuration information.

Write A Method That Is Called From A Variety Of Forms At Load?

Nov 29, 2010

I'm trying to write a method that is called from a variety of forms at load. So with a Form1 load event I would call the following:

Dim testpoint As New Point(10, 20)
DrawVerticalStringFromBottomUp("Hello", testpoint, Me)
The DrawVerticalSTringFromBottomUp Method is as follows:

[Code]....

When I call the code at a form's load event, nothing happens. When I call it from a button click after the form has loaded it works! I know this should be called from the paint method, but that doesn't suit my purposes.

way to make this work from the form load event?

VB 2010 - Express Forms - Load Next Form In Same Window

Feb 10, 2011

I have a very large program I would like to write but think starting with a smaller test program would be a good idea. What I want to know is: I have a base Form from which a user clicks a button to answer a question (Answer A, B, C, or D) which if the answer is correct will pop up a "Correct! answer response in a separate window. This is ok for now, however, when the "proceed to next question" button is clicked, I would like the next question to appear in the original base form window.

Right now it pops up in a separate window and I'd rather not have 20 windows open at the end of the quiz. How do I load the next form in the same window!? Obviously it's possible and could be something I'm completely overlooking, and I've also read that I could replace all data with the next Form. I have searched "Visual Basic load form in same window" and came up with results, but none of what I'm looking for.

Forms :: Disabling Close Window Option In Windows 7?

Apr 13, 2011

I have an application developed in VB.net with 3.5 framework. I have disabled close (X) button on the main form of the application while doing some processing. I have achieve disabling by "Overriding ReadOnly Property CreateParams()" of the form. This is working fine as both control button on form and close option on right click in the taskbar shows disabled. This fulfill my needs on the Windows XP OS but not on Windows 7 OS. As in Windows 7 right click on application icon in taskbar shows a different menu, which has a new "Close window" option.

The close in original menu still shows disabled (this old menu is hidden but can be shown by holding Shift key and right click on the application icon in taskbar). Now I need to disable this "Close window" option as well and only for my application. Is there a method through which I can do this programmatically.

VS 2010 : Binary Serialization Not Completing?

Jul 26, 2010

I am sending some data in a Serialized Structure across a TcpClient Stream to a Client. Now, sometimes the results get through, other times however, it does not. I've noticed this is true when the data I'm sending gets rather large. The server locks up at sending it and can't continue on.I'm sending this structure:

<Serializable()> Public Structure SearchResults
Public Property Results As String
Public Property Search As Boolean
End Structure

When Results gets kind of big (say, 411,000 characters in length), the server fails to send it, I get no error, and I end up timing out completely. If I connect via localhost", I get it instantly, so I know my code works. My problem is I've sent different structures with more data (2 million characters) way faster (nearly instantaneously) across the Internet (not localhost) in less than half a second.

Try
SyncLock m_Client.GetStream

Load Method Of A Datatable Sometimes So Slow

Jun 27, 2011

The project is a web app in ASP/VB.net. The issue is that some pages are mind-boggingly slow. After trying to track down the bottleneck, it was discovered to be the load method when filling a datatable with query results.

We are using an Oracle database and queries are executed in stored procedures. As an example, we have a relatively simple select statement within a procedure which returns 2 columns with 6 rows which was determined to take about 0.015 seconds to execute. However it takes on average 7 seconds to load the OracleDataReader into a datatable - a ridiculous amount of time for such a small record set. After messing around with the query, I found that a simple decode statement appeared to be causing the issue. The decode statement is used similar to as follows[code]...

The iBln variable is simply a number being passed in to act as a boolean variable for determining which column should be between two dates. If I comment this decode statement out and make it simply "column1 BETWEEN iDate1 and iDate2" then the load method takes no time at all as it should, signifying that it is indeed the decode statement causing issues.

Wpf - How Can A Button Click On UserControl Execute A Method In The Containing Window

When I click myButton, I would like to execute myMethod, which exists in the code-behind of myWindow.

The problem being that myUC doesn't have any idea that myWindow even exists, much less that myMethod exists.

How can I send the message: 'Hey, myWindow, wake up. myButton on myUc was just clicked; run myMethod'?

Call The XmlDocument.Load Method Asynchronously?

Aug 31, 2011

I have working code to read an RSS feed that uses:

Dim doc As New XmlDocument
doc.Load("http://...")
Dim channel As XmlElement = doc("rss")("channel")
Dim items As XmlNodeList = channel.GetElementsByTagName("item")

Unfortunately the doc.Load call causes the rest of the program to become unresponsive until it finishes. What's the best way to perform the load asynchronously and have a callback function to process the data?Edit: Here's the code I've tried using WebClient - the Load method is still lagging:

Private Sub checkResults()
'request rss feed
Dim w As New System.Net.WebClient

[code]....

The rssReadCallback method is executed fairly quickly after calling checkResults, but then the UI freezes during the Load method.
