From within my VB.Net program, I would like to write to one specific column of a row in a table in an SQL database, given the row's primary key. What is the lowest-overhead means of doing this? I understand how to create a table adapter, fill a datatable, write to the datatable and then update the database. Is there a relatively simple way to directly access the database table instead?
as a comparative newbie to VB, I am having trouble with a program I am writing in Visual Studio 2005 in order to insert a value into a table I have previously created with SQL Server. Here is the function that is giving me trouble
and in both table i have to insert values and later i need to update one table... the problem is when there is any exceptions in update it need to rollback fully and it also the values which have been inserted must be rollback..

I'm creating a Client Server application which involves theServer running some scripts in clients and getting back results in an automated way. In Server, other than Main thread, i have 2 worker threads, a) one monitoring response from clients and b) the other scheduling next available job to respective client which executes that job. The issue here is ,I want these worker threads to write the status of their work in the UI(which comes under Main Thread). Also i need to write things in worker thread in a Data table and Rich Text Box in Main thread. But, I can't do so, since it has been blocked to access one thread's function or property directly from others. Is there any work around to do this?
I have a data table whose one column is related to a column of another table. I have a listbox in a form which shows a column (which is sorted by another column value by ORDER clause) of the parent table and other columns are in textboxes. The child table is represented by a datagrid. When I add a new item in parent table and click save, the newly created item is listed at the bottom of the listbox violating my ORDER clause. When I wrote some codes to fill data again after updating, it shows an error message[code]...
