I have noticed that I can access my variables, objects and so forth either using "Me" or not using "Me".
Is it good practice to always use "Me"?
Does it make a difference?
when using variables in object names.I have a Public class which is called "Tank".In that class, there is a public property called "direction" of an integer type.I keep getting the error:

Are CellName, CellShape and CellColor being tied to each element in the array?. The reason is because I need to use these properties to tie certain functions to them. The CellName should have a MachineID which I would have to use to pull some info from a Database.
The Array should also be serialized and deserialized to XML as customer needs to create/edit and delete certain values in the array. And in order to save the array has to be in XML
So the Questions are does it save the CellName, CellShape and CellColor for each element, will it be affected if I serialize and deserialize using XML. If possible, how can I call up the Cellname p.e for a specific array element.
What I need to do is create comboboxes populated with values from a CSV for each class object selected from an Active Directory schema.
So lets say twelve classes are selected, the next form will display the class names in a checkedlistbox and will require twelve comboboxes for associating AD classes to CSV fields. Since the number of AD classes selected will always vary, is there a practical way to code it so that the objects can be instantiated from values stored in a variable?

In re-engineering a windows forms application, I find that a lot of code-behind in the various form classes is duplicative and I'm trying to centralize as many procedures as possible into a base class which can be inherited and used by the subclassed forms.
This process seems to be going well and is making the code in my subclasses much simpler and hopefully easier to maintain, but I'm not sure where to draw the line between leaving code in the subclasses and engineering for generic resusability and moving it to the base class.
Specifically, in some subclasses I have code which manipulates variables and objects specific to the subclass, and although I could move the code-behind into the base class, the base class code references specific objects which are needed to compile. For example, each subclass manipulates a databound datagridview and form detail controls which allows the user to select between multi-record and detailed single-record views of a datatable.
In Visual Basic 2008 do I need to declare dummy data objects in the base class so that the base class will compile? Or is there a way to indicate that the data objects will be provided by the subclass?

How to do is access/manipulate those newly created textBoxes. After the user enters values to those boxes, I want to assign each of their columns to an array.
I have an application which is grouped in a MainApplication and serveral Modules (DLL's) The Main Application is basicly a Form with a NavigationBar on the Left Side (like in Outlook 2003) and an MDI-Parent. There is also a Simple Login Routine on this Form. I store the UserName after Loggingn to a Property. The DLL's holds functionallity and Forms for various Sections for example there is a Employee.dll which holds functions and a form to show all Employees.
On Loading of the Main Application I loop trough all dll's in a "Module"-Folder and extract NavigationItems from them which I add to the MainForms NavigationPanel. I don't have a reference to the Modules because I want to make it as flexible as possible so that it is possible to delete a Dll form the Module directory in order to remove the functionality from the MainApplication. The Modules could work also without the MainApplication if they are Complied as an exe insted of DLL of course. This works fine so far.

Some of the things I would like to do from vb is create folders in my sharepoint site, have access to files that are on my sharepoint site. We have sharepoint servers at corporate so that is where my site resides.

I have a string on my main form called String1. When I open another form, I need access to this value. In the form I open, I have always done something like:Dim NewString as String = Main.String1
This has worked in the past. Well, I ended up renaming my forms (from Form1 to Main) in the property window and it now when I type the above code, it does not list Main as a form. Nothing that I renamed seems to exist now.
Asp.net has turned out to be alot easier to use than PHP (so far). However, I have been searching for a while and simply cannot figure this out. How do I get the variables that are contained in the url of my page (that originate from a form that had the method "GET") and utilize them? For example, my page would be [URL]. How would I get the value of some variable?

In VB.NET, my understanding is that before you can use a variable in another class, you must declare a new instance of it:

This would be fine, but I have to access these variables from different classes and every time I declare a new instance, it wipes all old values from the variables, which I need. I tried using Inherits statements but they presented many problems.
I have a variable called VarNUM which stores a number from 1 to 10. What i want to do with this is based on the current number stored in that variable call a different set of variables from a module with Public Structure ITEM1. I opened vs 2008 and used the server explorer for the first time to create a connection to my SQL 2005 db. The solution explorer pulled in all the tables, the database diagram etc. My question is how do I access that database connection and work with it using ADO objects? Do I need a reference to ADO?

Later (in another module), I need to retrieve the products from the Repeater, but it seems not to work with Repeater.Item.DataItem (which is then null).
My question is, is there any reference to the products in the Repeater-Items? Or do I have to set it myself via id field etc. What would be the easiest way to get the "underlying" product objects?
I was given a ppt slide with 12 chart objects and a text box for each. see the zip attachment. This is a collection of metrics that we track and chart monthly. The previous custodian of this duty would manually open each and update the datagrid for each and add comments as needed. I want to automate this process using vb2008 express. I have a basic handle on windows forms and sql tables, but don't have a clue how to access these chart objects and text boxes in the ppt slide. I've tried adding the slide to my project - like an image, but nogo.
I thought I could update the slide using my form controls, taking data entered on the data grid, create my SQLdb and update the slide. There is a one to one relationship for each item on the form and the ppt slide - 12 ea (charts & boxes) on both. My issue is how to define the chart object (mschart) in vb and update the ppt slide.
url...If you check out the images on that website you will notice that in their program, it has the textbox and user icon thing and everything and they have transparencies set.Is there anyway to access those "objects" and just throw it on the screen? How exactly are they doing that? Did they make their own graphics? And if they did, how are they letting it do the transparency, because I know laying a picturebox over a picturebox won't accomplish that.
