I have created a class called Student, with five private variables: [code] My main form is divided into a number of different sub procedures. In one of them, I used a streamreader to take the first name, last name, and phone numbers of a list of records in a text file called PersonalInfo.txt. It seems to work just fine. [code] I have another, separate sub procedure in which I read a different text file containing the "averages" for the students. The first average from Averages.txt belongs with the first student in PersonalInfo.txt. The second average goes with the second student.. How do I add the student average information to the properties of the student records created in the previous sub procedure? [code] I realize why this wouldn't work, but I can't figure out how I could use my counter to reference a specific student.
I created a simple Class called Student.[code]And then I tried to create an array of Students called s. I'd like to do something simple with the names of one of the students like the following..[code]I know that I need to use the New keyword to create an instance for each s(), but I'm not sure where to put it. When I try it without the array it's easy.
The idea of this program is to calculate and find total and average for 3 Students automatically. That is when the first data is entered and click on button the total and average of first student should be displayed in listbox. And we should be able to enter second data. Bu the problem is it is just printing the first average and total thrice.
Dim a As String Dim tot, avg, N As Single Dim I As Integer For I = 1 To 3 tot = Val(TextBox2.Text) + Val(TextBox3.Text) + Val(TextBox4.Text) + Val(TextBox5.Text) + Val(TextBox6.Text) [Code] .....
i have to add a student to my listbox but with many informations for example i have many textboxs (textbox for the age of the student, textbox for the name of the student & ECT) how can i had one student with all these infromation(age, name, major) in the load form also when i click on the student in listbox it shows age in the textbox1, name in textbox2 & ECT add student with multiple information in listbox [form load], and when i click on the student in the listbox it shows the students infromation on each textbox like textbox1 age, textbox2 name it's all with visual basic language.
Ok I have a search Button that will search through a student table and produce the grades of all the stdents in a class room when I enter the class room number into a textbox(txtclass.Text). The results will be displayed in a DataGridView and also I have the average grade of the class displayed in another textbox(marks.Text).
My program runs fine but I would like to add more code so that If I enter a wrong classrom number into the search textbox and Search for it then I would like a messagebox to pop up and say that the classrom you have entered does not exist. .I have tried different if statements but none has worked for me so far.
I'm reviewing a midterm visual basic exam question that I got didn't code correctly and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong.
The problem is:"Figure 7.4 contains an array of survey responses that is hard-coded (1-5) into the program. Suppose we wish to process survey results that are stored in a file. First, create an application that enables the user to write survey responses to a file. Use StreamWriter to create a file called SurveyResponses.txt and write each response on a separate line. Modify the code in fig. 7.4 to read the survey responses from SurveyResponses.txt by using StreamReader. THe program should continue to read responses until it reaches the end of file. The results should be output to a text box."
Note:the output of figure 7.4 is as follows and the frequency is incremented when a user submits a response.
Rating Frequency 1 2 3 4 5
My issue is that I use StreamReader and StreamWriter to allow the user to select a location to save the file and to open the file. I believe VB must automatically create a file and automatically open it, which I cannot figure out how to do it.

Currently on an internship from my CS degree, we have some down time and I'd like to spend it working through a series of problems (although none too large) that would advance my programming skills and allow me to dip my toes in a large breadth of different topics and areas. Unfortunately, everything I do must be done in vb.net on .net 2.0, without downloading any particular libraries.I've already worked through many of the "code-golf" tagged problems on here and the programming praxis problems posed by dailywtf.

Student pursuing BSIT degree, employer expectations, entry level. I would like to solicit opinions from this forum as to what your professional expectations are as regards an entry level position in working in the database realm... I see many job opportunities that require a minimum of 2 or more years experience, how does one go about obtaining this experience (I have tried very hard to maintain a minimum 3.70+ GPA) but have ZERO work experience in this field... I spend non school time working in VB and SQL to try and increase my proficiency. I have considered postponing my job search until I obtain certifications from brainbench etc... Any criticism and or advise is welcomed... Again I have no experience in database other than undergrad work in class.
I'm planning my road in VB training on my own at home using various books and online resources, like MSDN and book publisher support sites, etc. My initial goal is to become familiar w/the VB 2008 language but then to build upon that w/other skills like perhaps, ASP. Net, ADO .Net and so on. Maybe concentrate on WPF/XAML? My question is, where do I go next after initially learning the VB 2008 language? Not only that, what should my learning "list" look like, assuming it a good idea to "add" to the lot w/other VB skills? What's a "real world" learning plan look like in VB? Which should I consider to be "priority" core VB skills to learn after initially learning the VB language? What is a realistic VB skill portfolio look like?
I'm having an issue trying to get a wage calculator to recognize an overtime formula. The calculator has to have the overall function of figuring the gross pay, Federal Tax Withheld (15%), and the net pay based on the hourly wage and hours worked for the week. The issue I am having is the wage * 1.5 entry (underlined) where it sates it is not an array or a method and cannot have an argument list. If anyone can take a look at this for me and guide me as to why this error keeps coming up and what I can do to make sure it doesn
Btw do you know of any webpage that teaches simple stuffs that a advanced to intermediate student can learn from it like the home and learn? Cuz the home and learn is only the basic stuffs.
I have a problem here, I need to specify each student standing based on their total mark, respective course, and whole course,(from datagridview) for example,[code]Eg result(output):
-studentA number two in thier course(2/3), but number fourth on the whole course(4/7)
-studentC number one in their course(1/3), but second on the whole course(2/7).
-studentE number one in thier course(1/3), and number one on the whole course(1/7)
i wanted to link options selected from Comb box A (general) to specific options in combo box B (specific). I want to pick a word in Combo box A that has specific words/phrases in Combo Box B show. But not all the words to show in the combo box B if they aren't associated with the Word picked in Combo Box A. Ex.When "Soda" is picked in A, only "Coke, Sprite, Fanta" should be visible in combo box b, not everything else. This is the code i used to make the boxes, but i don't know how to link them.
Private Sub MainForm_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load ' fills the combo boxes with values Me.xGeneralComboBox.Items.Add("Soda") Me.xGeneralComboBox.Items.Add("Juice")
How to use a databound combo box to display one field in the drop down, and another as the combo box text on roll up? Using VS 2005... For example, I have a datatable that has 2 fields. One called "ShortDesc" and one called "LongDesc". I want to be able to see the "LongDesc" column values in the drop down on the combo box. When I make a selection, I want the text in the combo box to read the corresponding "ShortDesc" value.
I am getting an error when i try to populate some combo boxes with a value, the combo box has values in and the right amount the code is getting the right number.
the error msg is "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
Combo box 2 is filled based on a selection made in combo box 1 and a listview is populated based on the selection made in combo box 2.When the LostFocus event completes in combo box 1, it hits the LostFocus event in Combo Box 2 but it shouldn't. How do I prevent this from happening or if I can't prevent it, how do I work around it? The following is the code used.
Private Sub cboCategory_LostFocus(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cboCategory.LostFocus
I'm creating a rewards system for school where pupil earn points for good behavior which they can then use to purchase things like a packet of pens. (They can also have points deducted for bad behavior). I've created all the forms and now its just getting the data in from the Access database. This is what I need to do. On my form called detailsPupil it shows various information such as Name, email address, last login etc. This form is loaded once the pupil has logged in.
Private Sub btnLogin_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click Dim Login = Me.StudentTableAdapter1.UsernamePasswordString(txtUsername.Text, txtPassword.Text, cboPermissions.Text) If Login Is Nothing Then MsgBox("Incorrect Username or Password") [Code] .....
That all works but I'm having problems working out how to get the information like Name and email address into their places. This is what I have so far on my detailsPupil form. Public Class detailsPupil Private Sub btnLogOut_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogOut.Click Login.Show() [Code] .....
So to sum up I need to run a query which searches the DB using the Username which is obtained from the login form and then displays the Student Name in txtName, Email address in txtEmail etc...
I've got some code like the following. I want it so that when I chose an item in 'select 1' it changes the in the second combo box but I'm not sure of the best way to go about it. Does it have to be AJax or can it be done with just Javascript?
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head>
I want to create small database which handles Student Attendance Record it will store the roll calls of students on daily basis that teachers collect from the students in the class on paper and then later transfer it on computer .So my database Must contain Month, Year, Program (BCS, BIT, MS, MCS, MIT etc) Batch (1st, 2nd etc) and Subject (English, Math, Geography etc)
Suppose I want to Search for the Attendance Sheet of any month, year, Program, Batch or Subject, it returns me the required dataSo i come up with the Datadase which includes 5 dimension tables and one fact tableDimension Tables1. Student (StudentID, Name, other Attributes)2. Program (Program_Name, other Attributes)3. Date (Date, Week, Month, Year)4. Batch (Batch_Number, Description)5. Subject (Subject_Name, other Attributes)Fact TableAttendanceTable ( StudentID, Program, Date, Batch, Subject, Status)but the problem come when certain columns are repeating again and again which is time consuming for database operator and shows inconsistent behaviour of database.
Look at it: my Fact table would be like this [code]....
problems:1. The StudentId is repeating which shouldn't (Primary Key),2.It wastes a lot of time coz i'm repeating the data again and again Like Program, Date and Batch which shouldn't be in consistent Databases.
