I have created a class called Student, with five private variables: [code] My main form is divided into a number of different sub procedures. In one of them, I used a streamreader to take the first name, last name, and phone numbers of a list of records in a text file called PersonalInfo.txt. It seems to work just fine. [code] I have another, separate sub procedure in which I read a different text file containing the "averages" for the students. The first average from Averages.txt belongs with the first student in PersonalInfo.txt. The second average goes with the second student.. How do I add the student average information to the properties of the student records created in the previous sub procedure? I have written a program that queries an sql database displays it in a detailed listview, no problems so far. The only problem I am running in to is when I got to print the listview. When I do a regular printdocument.print() It prints out the listview exactly how I have it set up to do so. Which is a title , then column headers, next comes the listview, and then a total of some the columns. When I do a printpreview everything looks great. When I click the print button within the printpreviewdialog only the Title, Column headers, and the totals print. [code]
View 7 RepliesIve created one database Sql Server Compact Edition 2005, with one table ("Cliente") I know that I can created my database good, but i have a problem saving information since three textbox, in my table(With columns "Nombre" "Apellido" "Cliente". In my form there is a button save ("Guardar"). When I do click in my button appear the next message : "The column cannot contain null values. [ Column name = Nombre,Table name = Cliente ] " and happen the same with apellido and Id_Cliente. And this happen becouse my code cant save the information....

3) Use command line arguments to allow user to specify any delimited file
Student pursuing BSIT degree, employer expectations, entry level. I would like to solicit opinions from this forum as to what your professional expectations are as regards an entry level position in working in the database realm... I see many job opportunities that require a minimum of 2 or more years experience, how does one go about obtaining this experience (I have tried very hard to maintain a minimum 3.70+ GPA) but have ZERO work experience in this field... I spend non school time working in VB and SQL to try and increase my proficiency. I have considered postponing my job search until I obtain certifications from brainbench etc... Any criticism and or advise is welcomed... Again I have no experience in database other than undergrad work in class.

View 7 RepliesI do have Visual VB.NET 2008 Express installed, SQL Server 2005 express installed, and I do know how to start a brand new project in VB.NET, and then add the database to the solution explorer, modify the tables/fields, etc. I know how to create a WinForm, add some controls (and name them and whatnot).....
So in MS Access I know how to use VB in the Code-Behind-Form to use the form in an unbound manner, and insert data into the tables via Visual Basic with SQL statements. I am looking to be able to begin the same sort of thing here, because I guess I have to start somewhere?

(They can also have points deducted for bad behavior). I've created all the forms and now its just getting the data in from the Access database. This is what I need to do. I want to create small database which handles Student Attendance Record it will store the roll calls of students on daily basis that teachers collect from the students in the class on paper and then later transfer it on computer .So my database Must contain Month, Year, Program (BCS, BIT, MS, MCS, MIT etc) Batch (1st, 2nd etc) and Subject (English, Math, Geography etc)

(2) I type MSDN Binding.FormattingEnabled into google and go to the page.
(3) I read the 3, 'helpful', line description.
(4) I check out the bottom of the page for references.
(5) Never mind, non of those helped....
(6) I search google and find nobody seems to know what the property does in its entirety.
(7) I open up reflector and spend hours in a tangled web before being 70% sure I know what's going on.
(8) I carry on coding, but the 30% is niggling at me.
(9) Repeat 6 - 8 ad nauseum ...
There must be a better way!
I'm using VS.Net 2008 Express edition, btw.
ETA: The FormattingEnabled property was just an example, this is more of a general question. Using reflector, I'm about 94.314% sure of how it works..
Good, detailed resources or books for best-practices on exception handling? I am looking to dive into a much deeper understanding of it, and am finding it hard. All the books I see over .NET, ASP.NET, etc. place little emphasis or detail on exception handling.
I am currently testing out a 3-tier ASP.NET application, with a presentation layer, business logic layer, and data layer, and want to know more about exactly when to throw errors, when to catch them, what layer to do them in, etc.
I don't want a simple google search on ".NET exception handling" and then having you post the first couple of links. I would like you to respond if you have quality, known resources that you have used or have found.
I have not asked any questions in a long time because I have not been programming. But I am now back again with a question about Graphics.I want to make an object of a detailed checker. What I mean by detailed is there is going to be a big ellipse, then it is going to have a hole bunch of ellipses going around the edge to give it the checker affect.
How do I bind it all or make it all into one object and do something like a button has when clicked (Handles Button.Click) but with this object so I can move it.Is it possible to do this? If so can someone tell me how?

I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
